About Tioli Proisioning Manager This book describes how to install and configure Tioli Proisioning Manager It is intended for system administrators or for anyone else responsible for performing installation and configuration tasks. Use this book to install Tioli Proisioning Manager as follows: 1. Reiew Part 2, Planning your Tioli Proisioning Manager installation, on page 9. This part of the book proides planning information to help you decide which software stack you will use with Tioli Proisioning Manager and what topology you will use for your installation. Chapter 3. Supported topologies This chapter describes supported topologies for Tioli Proisioning Manager and the supporting software, such as the database serer and the Web serer. The configurations described in this chapter apply to all platforms, with exceptions and limitations being clearly identified. Note: In all topologies, all nodes must be running the same operating system, with the following exceptions: The directory serer, when installed on a serer that does not hae any other Tioli Proisioning Manager software installed (for example WebSphere Application Serer or DB2 Uniersal Database Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition), does not need to be running the same operating system as the Tioli Proisioning Manager serer. The only exception to this occurs on Windows with Microsoft Actie Directory. If Microsoft Actie Directory is your directory serer, all Tioli Proisioning Manager serers must be running on Windows. The specific configuration limitations noted in Configuration limitations on page 15. In this chapter the following terms are used: database node A node in a topology that only contains the database serer used by Tioli Proisioning Manager. LDAP serer node A node in a topology that only contains the LDAP serer used bytioli Proisioning Manager. Tioli Proisioning Manager node A node in a topology that contains the Tioli Proisioning Manager serer. While the node may also contain the database serer or WebSphere Application Serer, depending on the topology, if a node contains the Tioli Proisioning Manager serer, it is referred to as the Tioli Proisioning Manager node. Important The instructions in this section are meant as a general outline only to proide information for planning purposes. Detailed instructions are proided later in this book. For specific information on how to configure non-ibm software or pre-installed IBM software for use with Tioli Proisioning Manager, refer to Part 3, Installing and configuring the prerequisites, on page 29. Configuration limitations There are two limitations which will restrict how Tioli Proisioning Manager can be configured. 1. On AIX 5.2, Tioli Directory Serer, Version 5.2 does not support IBM DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1.3, Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition. Tioli Copyright IBM Corp. 2003, 2004 15
One-node topology Directory Serer only supports DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition on AIX 5.2. As a result, if you are planning to use the AIX operating enironment for your Tioli Proisioning Manager system, you must either: Install Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 on a separate AIX 5.2 machine and use DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition as the database for Tioli Directory Serer 5.2. A separate CD is proided for installing Tioli Directory Serer and DB2 Uniersal Database 8.1, Enterprise Edition in this situation. This CD is called WebSphere Application Serer Version 5.1 AIX Tioli Directory Serer 5.2. The part number on the CD is: C279KML. Tioli Proisioning Manager continues to use DB2 Uniersal Database, Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition as its database serer. In this scenario, DB2 Uniersal Database, Workgroup Serer Unlimited Edition is supported as the database serer for Tioli Directory Serer 5.2. 2. Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 does not support Red Hat Enterprise Linux Adanced Serer 2.1. Customers using Linux on Intel as their operating enironment must install Tioli Directory Serer 5.2 on a separate serer running a platform other than Linux on Intel, noting the AIX 5.2 restriction aboe. In a one-node topology, Tioli Proisioning Manager and the supporting software are installed on a single machine. This includes Tioli Proisioning Manager, the database serer, WebSphere Application Serer, and the LDAP serer.
