Business Diagramming Tool for Windows ConceptDraw PRO can be used for drawing nearly all kinds of business diagrams. Learn how ConceptDraw PRO can be helpful for creating most routine of them such as Organizational Chart or Flow Chart. Lesson 1: Creating Simple Organization Chart with ConceptDraw PRO. 1. Choose Organization Chart simple template from Template Gallery. Open it from File>Template Gallery>Business Diagrams. The template consists of a blank document, workspace and a set of libraries that contain component objects of organization chart.
2. Organization chart usually contains geometric shapes to represent a persons, positions, or departments of organization. The lines that connect the shapes indicate relationships between the positions. Use the shapes from Organization Chart or Stylish Chart library. Use mouse double-click or Drag &Drop it to insert object into the document. The rectangle is the most common shape used to represent person or department. A dashed outline indicates an open position. Use floating dialogs (menu View) or context menu to make dashed line or change color of the shape 3. To edit text of objects click on the needed part of the object.
4. Arrange your organization chart objects. Below you can see the most commonly used alignment of organizational charts. Most organizational charts are based on a horizontal tree structure like this one. The columnar stack creates a more compact tree structure. The staggered tree is also used to save space. A horizontal attachment outside of the vertical hierarchy indicates a staff or assistant position.
5. Connect shapes with lines according to roles and positions. Use Connector. Pick a connector by the needed end and, pressing left mouse button direct them to the object to be connected.. Doubly-linked boxes denote co-supervisors. A solid line shows a formal and direct relationship. A dashed line shows an indirect or advisory relationship. Arrows indicate the direction of communication. 6. Complete the issue with appropriate Title and page background. Choose the responsible objects from Backgrounds and Title Blocks libraries.
7. You can print your organization chart or export to HTML, or PDF, or MS PowerPoint, to present and share it with others.
Lesson 2: Creating Basic Flow Chart with ConceptDraw PRO. 1. Choose Basic Flowchart template from Template Gallery. Open it from File>Template Gallery> Basic Flowchart. The template consists of a blank document, workspace and a set of libraries that contain component objects of flowchart.
2. A flowchart consists of symbols representing various states of the process. Use the shapes from Basic flowchart or Stylish flowchart library. Use mouse doubleclick or Drag &Drop it to insert object into the document. The Process Symbol represents any process, function, or action and is the most frequently used symbol in flowcharting. The Input/Output Symbol represents data that is available for input or resulting from processing The Decision Symbol is a junction where a decision must be made. A single entry may have any number of alternative solutions, but only one can be chosen. The Document Symbol is used to represent any type of hard copy input or output (i.e. reports). The Terminator Symbols show the start and stop points in a process.
3. To edit text of Symbols click on the object or press F2. 4. Blocks should be arranged according to the flow of the process from one block to another. One block can be connected to a number of others, and the connections may be both incoming and outgoing.
5. Connect Blocks with arrows, using Connectors. Pick a connector by the needed end and, pressing left mouse button direct them to the object to be connected. Certain processes include operations that run in a cycle. Use the arrows to show the direction of process flow. 6. Complete the issue with appropriate Title and page Background. Choose the responsible objects from :Backgrounds and Title Blocks libraries

Imagine that you need to draw floor plan that includes different sorts of communications such as electricity, airing, water supply and so on. Layers allow you to work on separate images in order to modify the part of drawing without changing the entire image. So we can draw each communication type on a separate layer. 1. Set layer s properties, using Layers Floating Dialog You can rename a layer. Just select a layer name and press F2, then set the required name. To define a layer for work you need to mark it with the blue sphere. To make a layer invisible click on "eye" icon in the layer properties line. To lock a layer click on "lock" icon in the layer properties line. You can define the layers you need to print. To define non-printable layers just click on "printer" icon in the layer properties line. In Color section of the layer properties line you can set a default color for all lines in this layer. To select a color just click on the grey box icon in the layer properties line. Color Floating Dialog will open and will enable you to choose a color. If you need to apply Color settings to the lines in the selected layer just click on the empty space near the color box icon.

Lesson 4: Working with Microsoft Visio Files in ConceptDraw PRO. Using ConceptDraw you can work with Microsoft Visio documents both on Macintosh and Windows platforms. The native file format for Microsoft Visio files is *.vsd. However, you can set it to save all files with a *.vdx extension, which can be opened by ConceptDraw. 1. For example you have a simple flow chart created in MS Visio. Use menu File>Save as and choose XML Drawing to save it in *.vdx format. * if you do not have Visio available, you can use free file conversion service that is accessible from ConceptDraw web site or via email, where you can upload or attach.vsdfile(s) for conversion. 2. To open your *. vdx file with ConceptDraw PRO. Use menu >File>Import, choose XML for Visio. *When opening a Visio generated.vdx extension file with ConceptDraw there you may notice some differences when viewing the file in Visio and ConceptDraw. ConceptDraw does not support footers and headers. Any footer and header information that was in the Visio file will not be displayed in ConceptDraw. The header and footer information is not lost; they are just not viewable or modifiable within ConceptDraw. Some Visio fonts are not supported by ConceptDraw. If this is the case, then you may select from a list of available fonts supported by ConceptDraw when prompted.
3. You can edit your document with ConceptDraw PRO tools and features. Save it using menu File>Export, XML for Visio. 4. The document can be opened and edited with MS Visio as ordinary MS Visio document.
Web Site Structure Planning Tool for Windows The ConceptDraw PRO WebWave plug-in for ConceptDraw PRO provides a set of weboriented functionality that can to guides you through all the steps of a web development process. Lesson 5: Developing Web Site Concept Working under the new Web Site conception, you can use Conceptual Web Site Template. It offers a set of site structure schemes. Select one of them as a basic model for your site. 1. Open the template from the Site Structure section of the Template Gallery, or from the WebWave control panel (File>WebWave>Create Web site concept). 2. Navigate through the templates using the navigation buttons. Select one of the basic templates. 3. Customize the template using the necessary objects from the Conceptual Web Site Shapes library.
Lesson 6: Building Site Prototype Create the basic Web Site prototype using the built-in Web Site Prototype Builder Example. The example will guide you through the development of the Web Site scheme. 1. Open the Web Site Prototype Builder Example from the Site Structure section of the Template Gallery. 2. The Web Site scheme contains the special site structure objects. You can see the description of them at the bottom of the example page. The scheme should start with the Root folder, which is normally followed by pages and other folders with various files. All the elements are joined together with a library connector. Now you can remove and add files from the scheme. 3. You can also build the scheme with the help of the Web Site Prototype Builder wizard. Open the wizard from the Site Structure section of the Template Gallery or from the WebWave control panel (File> >WebWave>Wizards> >Build up a site template). The wizard offers a set of libraries with different site structure objects for you to use.
Lesson 7: Develop Web Site Page Design The first stage of Web Site designing is development of Web pages draft. Use ConceptDraw WebWave tools to create mock ups of Web Site pages and to find color solution for each of them. Design Outline Start developing your page design with one of the Designing Mock Up templates. 1. Add any object from the ConceptDraw PRO libraries to your template. To open the ConceptDraw libraries click the Library button on the toolbar. You can also use the ConceptDraw PRO drawing tools from the Drawing Tools toolbar. 2. Double click to edit the text within the shapes, buttons and text blocks.
Find Color Solution 1. Open the ConceptDraw WebWave control panel from the File menu and choose Use Gamut Color Selector. 2. Double click the color circle and click the arrow button in the top right corner. 3. Select the Context menu and select from one of the color combination types: Default Palette Pastel Palette Contrast Scheme 4. If you wish to save your color settings to a separate file, click Generate CSSfile. 5. Specify the location to save your file. 6. You can use the specified information in html code for creation of web pages. To make changes within the html code color code, use the View Color Pallets option of the WebWave control panel. You can copy the required color, from the table of colors that includes the color code specification and paste it to the html code of the web page.
Lesson 8: Explore Web Site ConceptDraw WebWave provides tools to test link and file structure integrity. Build site map The best way to test site links is to generate a site map. 1. Choose the Generate Site map wizard from the WebWave control panel. 2. Enter the site URL in the dialog window. 3. From the Settings window, select the Scan tab. Specify the depth level for the elements and you may need to login to gain access to the site you are goingg to scan by logging in. Click OK.
4. The Layout tab enables you to choose the output diagram layout. 5. From the Types tab, set the types of files you want to display. 6. From the Protocols and Attributes tabs, specify the protocols, and page attributes. Explore web site file structure. ConceptDraw WebWave provides a special wizard to help create web site file structure schemes. 1. You can run the wizard from the WebWave control panel (File>WebWave>Scan File Structure), or from the Site Structure section of the Template Gallery. 2. Enter site URL in the dialog window. 3. From the Settings window, select the Scan tab, you can specify the depth level for the elements, and restrict access to the site by a password control. 4. The Layout tab enables you to choose the output diagram layout. 5. From the Types tab, set the types of files you want to display. 6. After setting all the parameters, click OK. A hyperlink site map will be generated.
Lesson 9: Build Diagram of Website Database With the help of tools provided by ConceptDraw PRO WebWave Plug-in, you can build a database diagram that can be used by your website. 1. Start the Database Model Diagram wizard from the ERD&DataBase section of the Template Gallery. 2. Select the database type from the Select Data Source window. 3. If the required database is not listed click New. Select the database type and click Next.
4. In the ODBC Text Setup, specify the database name and click OK. 5. The database scheme will be generated as a ConceptDraw PRO document.
Computer Networking Tool for Windows The ConceptDraw PRO NetDiagrammer plug-in provides a huge collection of special libraries designed for individuals involved in computer networking and documenting activity. Lesson 10: LAN Scanner Create a diagram of your local network including workgroups, computers, network printers and shared folders. 1. Start LAN scanner from the Computers and Network section in the Template Gallery, or from the NetDiagrammer control panel (File>NetDiagrammer). 2. After start you will see the progress window that gives you information about objects found in your local network. Note: The wizard will find only switched on hardware. 3. The program will create a tree structure diagram of your local network using library objects. You can use this diagram as usual ConceptDraw NetDiagrammer document. You can change all objects using library objects or your own images or drag the branches in order to make the document look better. Also you can print the created document to use it, for example, as a report.
Lesson 11: IP Subnet Mask Calculator This tool will help you to find out your network class and calculate Network Mask, Subnet Mask and Maximum subnets. 1. Open Template Gallery and choose IP Subnet Mask Calculator icon in the Computers and Network section or push the corresponding button on the NetDiagrammer control panel (File>NetDiagrammer). 2. Enter the TCP/IP Network Address which is your host address and desired subnets number. 3. Double click on the "Calculate" button. You will see the results in the corresponding fields of the calculator.
Lesson 12: Cable Length Estimator Cable Length Estimator helps to calculate the cable length that you need for building up an intranet of the required configuration. All that you need is the floor plan of your office. 1. Select the item Cable Length Estimator from the ConceptDraw NetDiagrammer Control Panel or from the Computers and Network section in the Template Gallery. 2. You will see the blank page, Calculate button and step-by-step Instruction above. 3. Blank page is a place for your floor plan. You can create it with ConceptDraw tools or just insert an image to the document page. 4. Click the button in the top left corner of the document ruler to specify the required measurement units.
5. Select your floor plan. Assign all images to one layer. To make this, open menu Format>Shape Properties>Information. 6. Draw necessary intranet configuration using objects from Network Cabling library. Assign network images to another layer. Note: You must connect each new cable to the last added cable to see the right calculated data in the table. 7. Double-click on the Calculate button to see result.
