Settings at adaptif A2000 polarization NAVIGATOR 3. Double-click on PDL/PMD measurement from the Application folder at left of main screen 4. Set Sweep Rate to 5.0 nm/sec 5. Start Wavelength = below the NRT-40133A calibration wavelength (e.g. 1549.5 if calibrated to 1550.0 nm) 6. End Wavelength = above the NRT-40133A calibration wavelength (e.g. 1550.5 if calibrated to 1550.0 nm) 7. Run measurement by pressing on Single Measurement adaptif A2000 Post Processing 8. Set Resolution (nm) to 0.020 or 0.030 For rapidly varying DGD spectra smaller resolution may be necessary to capture all of the features. However, smaller resolution may also increase the measurement noise. This often results in incorrect SOPMD, PDC and/or Depolarization outputs as they are calculated from derivatives of the noisier signal. New Ridge Technologies, LLC Page 2 adaptif PHOTONICS GmbH
Comparison of NRT-40133A DGD state with of ADAPTIF A2000 Measurement Set the NRT-40133A to the desired state, and then measure with the adaptif A2000 ( Single Measurement ). After scanning the PMD state set Y-axis on adaptif A2000 and measure the DGD max and min across the scan. Repeat this for the SOPMD, Depolarization and the PCD on the A2000. The scaling can be changed using the arrow-buttons (automatic scaling) or the tool-button (manual scaling) on the toolbar on the left of the screen: This should match the DGD spectrum on the PMDS (PMDS Tools Spectral and PSP Viewer). This should match the DGD spectrum on the PMDS (PMDS Tools Spectral and PSP Viewer), as shown with the NRT-10033A example above. Below is an example and comparison of measurements made on the PMD state (0, 1700) generated by an NRT-10033A. The green data points connected with the green traces were measured employing the Jones Matrix Eigen-analysis measurement technique with an Agilent 8509B. This measurement is time consuming and cumbersome although quite accurate. The blue traces were measured with the Adaptif A2000. The A2000 is capable of much wider PMD spectral scans, in far less time, and provides the same results. On the left side are superimposed JME measurements. The wider blue traces were made with the A2000. On the right side is the NRT-10033A spectral and PSP viewer for the state corresponding to the set state (0, 1700). The A2000 accurately measures the PMD set PMD state. Note the difference between the measured PCD and the set PCD is a factor of 1. After researching into the definition of PCD both Adaptif and NRT agree on the PCD standard shown at the right. New Ridge Technologies, LLC Page 6 adaptif PHOTONICS GmbH
