Introduction This report highlights the performance results of certification tests performed on the Hewlett-Packard Z230 workstation and NVR solutions. The Z230 workstation was tested and certified both as a host to the XProtect Smart Client application as a part of a larger distributed surveillance system, and as a standalone XProtect Server hosting a complete XProtect Enterprise video management system (VMS) solution including client applications, administration, and video storage. Certified Products HP Z230 SFF (small form factor) Milestone XProtect Corporate 2014 (7.0a) Milestone XProtect Enterprise 2014 (8.6a) o Listed HP Z Workstation solutions are certified for use with the entire XProtect product line. Performance of the solution may vary if different XProtect products and/or system components not listed in the tests details are included. Test Process The Z230 was configured to act as a surveillance operator workstation during the first test scenario. The first step in the workstation test was to establish the maximum video display load the system could support at the lowest resolution and video profile settings that would be included in the test. Once this level of maximum live video display was established, the system would remain in operation long enough to harvest performance data. The workstation test included the following video stream profiles: Test Resolution Frame Video Compression Codec Display Format Transcoding Cameras Displayed/Recorded 1 640x480 15 60% H.264 Live Video No 48 2 1280x720 15 60% H.264 Live Video No 18 3 2048x1536 15 60% H.264 Live Video No 6 For the standalone NVR test scenario, the storage system within the Z230 NVR solution hosting the XProtect Enterprise Recording Server was provided by the 1 Terabyte hard disk included in the Z230. The Live Database for the XProtect Recording Server was placed on the local disk. Load testing the performance of a standalone NVR solution requires establishing the maximum video recording and display load by monitoring the system performance. Data was gathered while the system was at a state of maximum operational performance. The standalone NVR test scenario used the following video stream profiles: Test Resolution Frame Video Compression Codec Display Format % VMD Recording Cameras Displayed/Recorded 1 640x480 30 60% H.264 Live Video 33 25 2 1280x720 30 60% H.264 Live Video 33 10 3 2048x1536 30 60% H.264 Live Video 25 5 3 HP - MTP Certification Summary
Topology The system topology varied slightly between the two different test scenarios. The workstation tests included one server running a Microsoft Windows x64 based Server 2008 operating system hosting the Milestone XProtect Corporate Management Server, Management Client and Recording Server used to administer the system and record and stream video. The workstation test topology is seen below: The second test scenario, where the Z230 hosted all of the XProtect applications as a standalone NVR, had a very simple to implement system architecture with all of the XProtect applications and services hosted on the Z230. The only component of the system located outside of the Z230 was the video camera stream simulator program. Here is the topology for that test scenario: 4 HP - MTP Certification Summary
Key Findings The maximum number of cameras supported by the system while in workstation mode was 48 cameras at VGA resolution. While serving as an NVR the system was able to support up to 25 cameras at 1 Megapixel and 15 frames per second. The Z230 performed up to expectations in terms of cameras supported both as a workstation and an NVR. Test Max Average Codec Frame Resolution Display and/or Recording Profile Scenario: Cameras CPU % Workstation 48 70.84 H.264 15 VGA 16x16x16 cameras live video 18 66.12 H.264 15 1 Megapixel 6x6x6 cameras live video 6 70.84 H.264 15 3 Megapixel 3x3 cameras live video NVR 25 65.91 H.264 30 VGA 30% VMD recording, 8x8x9 live 10 79.55 H.264 30 1 Megapixel 30% VMD recording, 3x3x4 live 5 76.19 H.264 30 3 Megapixel 25% VMD recording, 1x2x2 live 25 89.74 MJPEG 15 1 Megapixel 25% VMD recording, 16 live Integrators and end users should seriously consider adding the HP Z230 solution to their portfolio of technology solutions due to the flexibility it provides in designing XProtect VMS systems. Being able to serve as an NVR, standalone NVR solution, and a workstation provides the system designer the ability to solve multiple problems with a single piece of technology. The Z230 solution has many CPU, memory, and hard disk options available, which can provide even more flexibility. Larger systems could be built using multiple Z230 NVRs. The XProtect and HP Z230 architecture is highly scalable if multiple NVRs are added over time at multiple distributed locations, and could feasibly support virtually any size video surveillance and security system. The HP Z230 workstation and NVR solution is a certified hardware solution for use with the Milestone XProtect VMS. Both of the tested product scenarios: using the Z230 as a host for the Smart Client application, and using the Z230 as a standalone NVR performed very well and should have no problems supporting solutions which utilize video stream profiles similar to those detailed in this document. Integrators or customers requiring more capacity in a single workstation or NVR could also consider other members of the HP Z Workstation family: Z420 Intel Xeon processor with up to 8 cores, 64GB max Memory, 12TB internal disk storage, and 8 displays. Z620 Dual Intel Xeon processors with up to 24 cores, 192GB of Memory, 12TB internal disk storage, and 8 displays. Z820 Dual Intel Xeon processors with up to 24 cores, 512GB of Memory, 15TB internal disk storage, and 8 displays. 5 HP - MTP Certification Summary
