Overview This function block outputs an RPM signal that is based on inputs from a KPP Speed Sensor. This function block receives its Spd input through a MFIn. See About Function Block Connections on page 6 for an overview of this function block s connections and signals. Inputs Inputs Input Type Range Description Param Inputs a user-defined Puls/Rev value that defines the number of pulses equal to one revolution. SnsPwr Reports sensor power supply voltage. Spd Inputs speed signals from the speed sensor. 4 11022915 Rev BA November 2011
Outputs Outputs Output Type Range Description Status U16 Reports the function block s status conditions. This output does not use the standard bitwise scheme described in the Basic Function Blocks Library User s Manual. For more information about status logic, see Status and Fault Logic on page 7. Fault U16 Reports the function block s fault conditions. This output does not use the standard bitwise scheme described in the Basic Function Blocks Library User s Manual. For more information about fault logic, see Status and Fault Logic on page 7. Diag Outputs a Diag bus that has a: Param sub-bus. FltTmrFreq signal. Param Outputs the signals in the Input Param bus. Use to validate input signals to the function block. FltTmrFreq U16 Provides the present value of the fault delay counter for the frequency input signal. RPM U16 0 9,000,000 rpm 10 The calculated rpm. 10 = 1.0 rpm. 11022915 Rev BA November 2011 5

Status and Fault Logic The KPP_SPD function block does not use standard status and fault codes. The status code indicates the calibration state of the function block. Status Logic Status Bit* Reported While Invalid setup/calibration. 4 The Input Param bus Puls/Rev signal has been assigned a value outside a range of 1 600. *Position of set bit in a 16 bit fault or status code. Bit 1 is the least significant bit. Fault Logic Fault Cause Bit* Response Correction Sensor power voltage too low. SnsPwr.Volt < 4500 mv. 1 Vpct calculated as percent of 4500. Correct the sensor supply voltage. Sensor power voltage too high. SnsPwr.Volt > 5250 mv. 2 Vpct calculated as percent of 5250. Correct the sensor supply voltage. Measured frequency too low. Freq <0 Hz. 3 RPM signal = 0. Correct the application program to provide a U16 value type for the Freq input signal in the Spd bus. Measured frequency too high. Freq > 15000 Hz. 4 RPM signal equivalent to 15000 Hz. Check for any hardware issues that could cause an invalid frequency value, such as electrical noise. Verify that the speed sensor is producing a valid signal. Frequency signal voltage too low. Vpct < 3%. 5 Check to see that the speed signal is not shorted to ground. Frequency signal voltage too high. Vpct > 97%. 6 Frequency signal open. 37% Vpct 63%. 7 Frequency ground signal open. 63% Vpct 85%. 8 No response detected only while Freq = 0 Hz. Check to see that the speed signal is not shorted to SnsPwr. Check to see that the speed signal is not disconnected. Check to see that the speed sensor ground wire is not disconnected. Frequency power signal open. 15% Vpct 37%. 9 Check to see that the speed sensor power wire is not disconnected. *Position of set bit in a 16 bit status or fault code. Bit 1 is the least significant bit. Vpct represents an input voltage as a percent of the Sensor Power 11022915 Rev BA November 2011 7
About Fault Reporting The function block detects and reports fault conditions and applies constraints. The sensor power and frequency range fault conditions in this block are reported immediately upon detection and clear immediately when the condition is no longer detected. The voltage level of the frequency input signal is measured as a percent of sensor power voltage and used to detect faults. A set of five faults is reported in conjunction with a fault timer, which counts up to FaultDetTm while any fault in the set is detected, and counts down to zero while no fault in the set is detected. The frequency-signal faults are detected only while Freq = 0. Detected faults are reported in the Fault output value from the time the count reaches FaultDetTm until it counts back down to zero. 8 11022915 Rev BA November 2011
Function Block Parameter Values Function Block Parameter Values Input Type Range Description The Param bus inputs signals that set the function block s operating characteristics. The Puls/Rev value is user-defined outside of the function block for the specific sensor used. Typically, you do not have to change any of the other values for the correct operation of the function block. Puls/Rev U16 1 600 Sets the conversion factor that is used to convert the measured frequency from Hz to rpm. FaultDetTm U16 Sets the delay time before the function block: Reports a detected fault. Clears a reported fault that it no longer detects. 11022915 Rev BA November 2011 9
MC Controller Input Configuration If you have an SC controller, see SC Controller Input Configuration on page 11. You route the function block s Spd input through an MFIn. You must change the default configuration of the MFIn to accept this input. How to Configure a MFIn 1. In the GUIDE template, enter the Inputs page. 2. Enter the MFIn page that receives the input. 3. Make the changes that are shown in the preceding figure. 10 11022915 Rev BA November 2011
SC Controller Input Configuration If you have an MC controller, see MC Controller Input Configuration on page 10. You route the function block s Spd input through an MFIn. You must change the default configuration of the MFIn to accept this input. How to Configure a MFIn T The MFIn that you use must be capable of a Freq input and have configurable Bias, Range, and InputMode values. 1. In the GUIDE template, enter the Inputs page. 2. Enter the MFIn page that receives the input. 3. Make the changes that are shown in the preceding figure. 11022915 Rev BA November 2011 11
