The connections are made by 2-pole relays. Thus the connections can be operated bi-directional. The control is made by a remote control unit GBP 32 CS A or GBP 32 CS B which is connected to the change-over by RS485 interface. This allows a control up to 1500 m distance. This makes possible, that the change-over can be controlled individually from 2 independent locations. The remote control units may be programmed individual to access channels for the 2 independent locations. By renewed pushing of the control button and channel select button the channel returns to port A (LED does not light). In case of power loss on the change-over (control lamp lights) all channels will be switched back to port A (Idle position). The remote control device has 32 pushbuttons for selection of changeovers. The control button serves as programming button in operation and as control pushbutton for programming respectively configurating of pushbutton functions. The programming button has to be pushed simultaneously with a changeover button, thus to avoid an unintentional changeover. Functional description GBP 32 CS A The change-over is foreseen for connection up to 2 remote control units. Change-over and control units are connected through a RS-485 interface. With this interface large distances can be bridged (hundreds of meters with suitable cable). Attention should be paid to a terminating resistor which has to be fitted into the plugs on both ends of the cable, thus to guarantee a maximal signal to noise ratio. A cable with following specifications is recommended 2 wire, shielded, twisted pair conductor dia. 0.22 mm² (24 AWG) capacity > 60 pf/m The choosen transfer rate is 19200 Bit/s. The control unit GBP 32 CS contains 33 LED push buttons on the front side, 1 power connector and a RS-485 connector on the rear side. That means, that an activated switch (input "B" on output "C") will bring the LED in the corresponding button to light. This indication can be modified in the programming mode. It is possible to choose separately for each switch, if the push button LED has to light if output "C" is connected to input "A" or to input "B". In order that display can be modified, the control button only has to be pushed for 5 seconds. The LED control button blinks to show that the control unit is in the programming mode now. Only the switching LEDs pushbutton light, which must have an inverse display characteristic. Once a pushbutton is pressed the display polarity changes. By regular quitting of the menu the new display configuration will be stored in the internal flash EProm. The procedure can be quitted as follows: Push control button shortly 30 seconds after final touch of a pushbutton (automatically) Plug off supply of remonte control unit (display configuration will not be stored) After quitting the programming mode, the LED of control pushbutton goes off and the pushbutton LEDs show the actual state of the control unit. 11/16

Switching functions of the control unit The channel switcher GCS is controlled by one or two remote control units GBP 32 CS. Once pushed the control pushbutton and afterwards a channel select pushbutton, the corresponding channel relay is switched. Control Button (Proceed Button) Channel Select Pushbutton Display can be different. Using a remote control unit with normal display polarity, the LED of the corresponding pushbutton lights, when control switches input "A" to output "C". In this case the LED with inverted display polarity of pushbutton goes off. By pushing again on the same pushbutton the corresponding relay switches again. The display polarity can be configured separately for each pushbutton (see "setting up the display configuration of the remote control device") To avoid unintentional change-over by pushing accidentally a pushbutton on the remote control unit, channel button has to be pushed simultaneously with the control pushbutton, in order to accept the operation. It is basically possible to change-over several channels simultaneously as long as the control pushbutton is pushed. In case of interruption of the connection to the change-over or the change-over is powerless, the control button LED blinks very fast. The data of pushed buttons will be ignored and the control button LED blinks very fast. A remote control unit GBP 32 CS has always 33 pushbuttons. If the change-over has only 8, 16 or 24 swichting relays, only these LEDs will light, independently of the display polarity. Optionally the change-over can also switch simultaneously groups or all channels. On request this can be programmed from factory. The switching occurs through the control interface from a remote control unit or a superordinated control. 12/16

Software Control Panel The "GCS Control Panel" allows to run Ghielmetti Change-Over from a PC through the RS 485 interface. The change-over can be operated directly or by preselection and confirm through the Proceed button. In addition groups of 8 channels each at the time or all channels simultaneously may be switched through the Global pushbutton. The channels for Port A and B (Location A or Location B) may be assigned individually through the Panel ID A or B. In the Edit Label Names menu all channels can be easily labelled directly. The GCS Control Panel may be operated by touch screen too, running on Linux, Mac OS X, Windows versions 2000, Vista and Windows 7. Status bar when the connection to the change-over is interrupted. Language switching for English, German and French The connection is being done through the File menu Status bar when the connection to the change-over is operable.
