Is the build date older than 1/1/2010? (Version 5.5.9.8) No The RTU is capable of IP download. Yes In Calterm2 issue ipconfig command. Take note of IP address and subnet mask. A serial download is required. Determine IP address of your PC. ( ipconfig in command prompt) Is the build date newer than 7/25/2012 (Ver 5.5.9.38)? No Go to Legacy IP Address Assignment Procedure. Appendix A Go to Serial Download Procedure Yes Yes Do you need to reassign the RTU IP address for download? In Calterm2, issue changeip command. Enter IP address, subnet mask and gateway when prompted. Reset RTU No Do you need to set a static IP address in your PC? Yes Set static IP address in your PC. (see appendix B) No Go to IP Download Procedure

Serial Port Download Procedure Disabling the serial port s FIFO buffer is recommended for all serial communication to the RTU. See appendix E If a download failure occurs Open your configuration in Callistoview. First retry the download by selecting Retry Previous from the Communicate Download menu. Verify that there is a serial connection between your PC and the RTU. You can use Calterm2 to check communications. The download should resume where it left off. It may take several attempts to complete the entire download if there is a poor/noisy serial connection. In Callistoview, choose the serial port on your computer that is connected to the RTU from the Setup > Comm Port menu. If downloading to an IOE2 or EDGE loaded with firmware older than 1/1/2010. The node must be in functional mode for successful download. If IOE2 will not go into functional mode first download PC only configuration with version older than 5.5.9.8 If the retry fails immediately, place the node into default mode by pressing the reset button 5 times. Retry the download by selecting Retry Previous from the Communicate > Download menu. When the Edge/IOE2 is in default mode port 2 is open to accept a download. If the download fails at the end of the process and the board is in default mode, it is likely there is a configuration problem. Create a PC only configuration config (appendix D) and try the download again. From the Communicate > Download menu, choose All. When the Would you like to download? dialog appears, check off Also download my configuration file as a backup. and press the Yes button. If the download seems to get stuck trying to reboot and the node appears to be running in functional mode, an incorrect PC configuration port may be selected in the Callistoview configuration. Place the node into default mode, try downloading the PC only configuration (appendix D) config file and check your original configuration for errors. When the download has successfully completed, the download dialog will disappear and you will be returned to the main Callistoview Screen. If the download continues to fail check for these issues: Incorrect node number is set Arcnet is unstable (blinking ND REC or SYS REC LEDs indicate instability) Bad cable / physical communication problem If downloading to IOE1/IOE2/Polaris, verify build in configuration matches version installed on device. If board is constantly rebooting (no consistent heartbeat): For IOE2 Turn off power, remove board from chassis, remove LK1 link for 20 seconds, replace LK1 link. Return board to chassis and turn power back on. If board still fails to boot contact DAQ for support. For EDGE - see appendix E

IP Download Procedure Open your configuration in Callistoview. Verify that the IP address set in the configuration matches the IP address set in the Node(s). (Callistoview uses this IP address to connect to the RTU) If a download failure occurs First, press reset button once and Retry the download by selecting Retry Previous from the Communicate Download menu. The download should pickup where it left off. Verify that there is an Ethernet connection to the node(s). A direct ethernet connection to each IP capable node will improve download time. If the download failure occurs again In Callistoview choose IP High Speed from the Setup > Comm Port menu. Place the node into default mode by pressing the reset button 5 times and retry the download by selecting Retry Previous from the Communicate > Download menu. From the Communicate > Download menu choose All. If the download failure persists go to the IP download troubleshooting page. When the Would you like to download? dialog appears, check off Also download my configuration file as a backup. and press the Yes button. When download has successfully completed, the download dialog will disappear and you will be returned to the main Callistoview Screen.

IP Download Troubleshooting Failure Reason Error Message / Symptom Resolution No physical connection to node OR Incorrect IP address / IP parameters set in RTU, config, or PC Error occurs within 30 seconds. No download dialog is displayed before time out. Verify node is powered on and has heartbeat. Verify Ethernet cable is properly attached to PC and RTU. Verify IP address in configuration (Node configuration advanced) Verify IP address configured in node via ipconfig command in calterm2 Verify computer s IP parameters will allow it to communicate with RTU. Check subnet mask, ip address and gateway. Verify computer s firewall is not blocking IP ports 50214 and 50213. If connection failure is persistent, attempt serial port download. Node number is incorrect. Download will fail within 30 seconds If first node 1 number is incorrect an error message similar the one below will be displayed. Verify node address links / switches are set correctly. Verify that Arcnet is stable (blinking ND REC or SYS REC LEDs on IOE2, toggling arcnet LEDs on EDGE indicate instability) If node 2 or higher is incorrect the error message below will be shown.

Loss of IP connection during download OR Node stops responding During middle of download, download times out and displays error Verify Physical connection Reset node(s) to default and retry download Verify IP parameters If connection failure is persistent, attempt serial port download. OR OR Bad Configuration file was loaded OR Firmware has become corrupt because of partially completed downloaded and is not running (no heartbeat) Node is in default mode and will not reboot to functional OR Node is in constant reboot state Error occurs near end of download process. If board is constantly rebooting: Press reset button 5 times to place into default mode. If reset to default doesn t work. For IOE2 Turn off power, remove board from chassis, remove LK1 link for 20 seconds, replace LK1 link. Return board to chassis and turn power back on. From the start menu, click Run. Type CMD and press Enter. A DOS window will appear. Type IPCONFIG and press Enter. Verify that the displayed IP address matches what you just set.

Appendix C: Callistoview IP address management Previous to release 5.5.9.38, the Ethernet settings for EDGE and IOE2 were managed in the Callistoview configuration. This creates the possibility of accidentally downloading an incorrect IP address into a unit. To prevent this from happening, the Ethernet settings are now managed within the RTU, separate from the configuration. These settings are accessible though the diagnostic port s terminal interface (calterm). The changeip command has been added to the EDGE and IOE2. This command allows the user to set the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway. Once these values are set using this command, they cannot be changed by downloading to the board. The command must be used again to adjust the Ethernet settings. Use: While connected to the device via the diagnostic port s terminal interface, issue the command changeip (without quotes). You will be prompted to enter the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway. Once these values are set, the device must be reset for the values to be applied. Due to this change, the functionality of several fields in Callistoview have been modified. There are three places within Callistoview where an IP address can be entered: The PC Configuration application s LAN/WAN tab (not present in release 5.5.9.54 or newer) The node setting screen s advanced settings The Communicate > Download > Set IP address for RTU connection menu

The IP address, subnet mask and default gateway fields in the PC Configuration application s LAN/WAN tab and the node setting screen s advanced settings are identical. Changing the value in one will automatically change the value in the other. The IP address field performs two functions in normal use. It provides a place to store an IP address associated with the given configuration for the user to reference. It also sets the IP address that Callistoview will try to connect to when an IP download is being attempted. This field does not set the IP address in the board unless the user is using the fallback IP method (see below). The subnet mask and default gateway fields are used only for reference.

The Communicate > Download > Set IP address for RTU connection menu is used to direct Callistoview to the IP address of the RTU for uploading a backup configuration from the RTU. This field should be set to all zeros when downloading or it will override the address set in the configuration (LAN/WAN tab). Fallback mode: In order to make the transition to the new method of Ethernet configuration as seamless as possible, a fallback method of setting the IP address has been incorporated. If the changeip command is not issued, the settings in the PC Configuration application s LAN/WAN tab will be applied to the RTU. Once the changeip command is issued, the RTU will only use the Ethernet settings set by the changeip command. Summary: Use the changeip command in calterm to set the Ethernet parameters of the unit. Use the PC Configuration application s LAN/WAN tab or the node setting screen s advanced settings to set the IP address that Callistoview will use to download to, the current IP address of the unit. Use the Communicate > Download > Set IP address for RTU connection menu to set the IP address Callistoview uses to upload a backup configuration from the RTU.

Appendix D: Create PC Only Configuration Open Callistoview 5.5.9.48 From File menu select New RTU From Node menu select Add From Module Type menu select EDGE or IoE2. Press Add. Press Close. (If there are multiple nodes in your config, add one for each IoE2/Edge) On the main Callistoview Screen press the node type button IoE2 or Edge From the Build menu select IoE2 Core98 for IoE2 Or Edge Core for Edge Press the Add button, select PC configuration. Press OK. The PC configuration dialog will open check off Let this application use Port 2. Press OK to save the PC Configuration settings. Press OK to return to main Callistoview screen. Do this for each node. For each node in the configuration: Open the node configuration window by pressing the node type button. Press the advanced button Enter the IP parameters that are currently configured in the node (Callistoview will use this information to connect to the RTU) Press OK to return to the main Callistoview screen. Save the configuration for later use by selecting Save from the File menu.

Appendix E: EDGE RTU Troubleshooting Techniques Default Mode The EDGE has two operating modes, fully functional and default. The EDGE s default mode is effectively a factory safe mode. In default mode no configured applications are running. Port 2 and the Ethernet port are open to accept downloads. If there is a problem downloading to the EDGE or getting the EDGE to boot, the goal is to get the unit into default mode so it can be reconfigured. To force the EDGE into default mode, press reset button 5 times leaving 1 second between presses. The Heartbeat will blink twice as fast when in default mode. While in default mode the PC server on port 2 will be available to accept a limited set of commands. The baud rate for this port is forced to 115200. The EDGE can also be placed into default mode by using Calterm2 (or any serial terminal program) to issue the command reboot d to the PC server serial port (typically port 2). Downloading Issues: Symptom: Download fails, Node not present or not responding, RTU Failed to accept data. Solution: Verify EDGE is powered on and heartbeat light is blinking. Verify cabling is correct. EDGE serial ports are DTE requiring only receive (pin 2), transmit (pin 3), and ground (pin5). If more than one node is in the system verify that node 1 is working and connected. Place EDGE in default mode and retry the download.

Symptom: Serial download fails in middle of download. No load response error given. Solution: This error occurs because Callistoview was unable to verify the data downloaded to the board. First retry the download, the process will usually continue from where it left off. A possible cause for this is that the serial cable has become disconnected from the EDGE. Check the serial port connections and retry the download. This error could also be caused by a timing problem with the serial port on the computer. This can usually be resolved by disabling the FIFO buffers on your computer s serial port. To disable the FIFO buffers: o Open the device manager by double clicking on System in the control panel then selecting device manager from the page. o In device manager find the Ports branch and right click on the serial port you are using to download. Click Properties. o Click on the Port Settings tab. o Click on the Advanced button. o Uncheck FIFO buffer at the top of the dialog box. o Click OK on all open windows. o Retry download.

Symptom: EDGE is continually resetting. Heart beat is absent or erratic. S1-S5 LEDs turn on in a repeated sequence. DS1 (green LED near reset switch) is blinking. Solution: Press reset button 5 times to place edge into default mode and try know working configuration. If EDGE will not go into default by pressing the reset button, do the following: 1. Set node setting DIP switch (SW1) to 0 (all off). 2. Press reset button once. Wait for it to boot. It should enter default mode. If it does not boot at this step, the unit s flash is corrupted, contact DAQ for RMA information. 3. Once the unit had booted to default mode, connect your PC to port 2 and open Calterm 2 (or equivalent terminal program). Set terminal program to 115200 baud rate. Press enter until you see PC-2> prompt. 4. Set node setting DIP switch (SW1) to 1. 5. Enter reboot d into terminal program. Press enter. The EDGE will reboot and return to default mode. 6. Create a simple configuration in Callistoview with only PC server. Download the simple config to EDGE unit. 7. Once the download is complete the EDGE will boot to fully functional mode and is ready to accept a download.
