How Do I Set My Time Zone? No matter where you are in the world, assignments are due at the same time. The time and date an assignment is due doesn't shift according to your time zone. To help you with this, I- Learn gives users the ability to adjust the timezone so that everyone can see deadlines in their own relative time. Account Settings 1. Click on your name in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. 2. Select Account Settings. Page 8

Time Zone 1. Under Time Zone, select the continent on which you reside. 2. Select the appropriate time zone. 3. Click Save and Close. Page 9

How Do I Exclude Some Courses from Notifications? Notifications 1. Click on your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen. 2. Select Notifications. Exclude Some Courses At the very bottom of the page, under Exclude Some Courses, click Manage my course exclusions. Page 10

Select Courses A window will appear with a list of the courses you are enrolled in. 1. If you don't want to see notifications for a course, click the X next to its name. A blue circle with an arrow will appear in place of the X. To undo this change, simply click the blue circle with the arrow in it. 2. When you are done making changes, select Close. Page 11

How Do I Contact My Instructor? Classlist 1. Click on Course Tools in the upper navigation menu. 2. Select Classlist. Locate Instructor Click on your instructor's name in the Classlist. Page 12

Email Instructor An email window will appear with your instructor's email already inserted into the "To" field. 1. Insert a subject. 2. Type your email message. 3. Press Send. NOTE: The email will be sent to your instructor's BYU-Idaho email address. They will reply to your BYU-Idaho email address. You will not be able to access it anywhere in I-Learn. Page 13

How Do I Contact Other Students in My Class? Classlist 1. Click on Course Tools in the upper navigation menu. 2. Select Classlist. Page 14

Click on the Student's Name In the Classlist, click on the student's name that you wish to email. Page 15

Email Student An email window will appear with the student's email already inserted into the "To" field. 1. Insert a subject. 2. Type your email. 3. Click Send. NOTE: This email will be sent to the student's BYU-Idaho email address. When the student responds, the email will be sent to your BYU-Idaho email. Page 16

How Do I Contact Members of a Group in My Course? Classlist 1. Click on Course Tools in the upper navigation menu. 2. Select Classlist. Page 17

View By Groups 1. In the upper left-hand corner of the screen, in the View By tab, select Groups. 2. Click Apply. Select Groups 1. In the Groups tab, select the group you wish to email. 2. Click Apply. Page 18

Select All 1. Check the box below Email to select all students in the group. 2. Click Email. Page 19

Email Group An email window will appear with the group members' emails inserted into the Bcc tab. 1. Insert a subject. 2. Type your email. 3. Click Send. NOTE: This email will be sent to the group members' BYU-Idaho email addresses. When they respond to the email, it will be sent to your BYU-Idaho email address. Page 20

How Do I See Announcements I Have Missed? Announcements Click on Announcements. Read Announcement All announcements in the course will be displayed here. Scroll down until you see the announcement you are looking for. Page 21

More Announcements If you don't see all the announcements you can increase the number you see on one page by changing the setting on the right bottom corner of the page. Page 22

Why am I not Authorized to Send Email? For security purposes, quizzes will lock down the email system while a quiz/exam is in session. If a student begins a quiz, then navigates away from it without submitting the quiz, the next time they try to email they will receive a message that says Error: Not Authorized. To address this problem follow the steps below. Error Message This is the error message you receive if you are trying to access your email while a quiz is currently incomplete. Resolution 1. Select the email icon at the top of your screen. Page 23

2. Click on the quiz listed as incomplete. Continue Quiz 1. Notice the quiz is still In Progress. 2. Click Continue Quiz then complete and/or submit the quiz attempt. Page 24

How Do I Update My Notifications? This process is the same for both Instructors and students. All changes made to your Profile will apply to all courses unless you specifically choose to exclude them. To learn more about this click this link. How do I Exclude Some Courses from Notifications? How Do I Hide My Courses from Previous Semesters? This article will describe how to hide the courses in your course list from previous semesters. View All Courses From the I-Learn homepage, locate your course list on the right-hand side of the screen and click on view all courses. Page 30

How Do I Edit My Discussion Board Post? Discussion tab Click Discussion tab Discussion Topic Click on the topic that contains the thread you would like to edit. Page 33

How Do I Post a New Discussion Board Thread? How to post to a discussion board. Content Tab Navigate to the Content tab in the upper navigation bar. Find Discussion Board Click on the discussion board that you wish to participate in. Page 38

Click on Topic (if Applicable) Sometimes I-Learn will require you to click on the discussion board in a second screen. If this is the case, simply click on the discussion board title to enter the discussion board. Start a New Thread At the top of the screen, click Start a New Thread. Page 39

Post Thread A new window will appear. 1. Insert a subject for your thread. 2. Type your post in the Post box. 3. Click Post. Page 40

How Do I Reply to A Discussion Board Post? Discussion Board Access the discussion board either by clicking on the Content or the Discussions tab. Discussion Title Click on the title of the Discussion thread you wish to reply to. Page 41

How Do Students Self Enroll in a Group? This article show students how to self enroll in a group. NOTE: Once you have enrolled yourself into a group, I-Learn does not allow you to unenroll yourself from that group. This can only be done by your Faculty or Online Instructor. Groups 1. How Do I Insert An Image In I-Learn? This tutorial is applicable for several tools that use the text editor feature, including discussions and long answer questions in quizzes. Select Camera Icon Click the Camera icon in the upper-left corner of the text editor. Add a File There are three options to add an image file to a page: My Computer, Course Offering Files, & URL. Page 52

My Computer 1. You can either click the Upload button and select the image from your native computer files, or drag and drop the image into the box. 2. Click Add to insert the image. Page 53

Course Offering Files 1. Select the image from the files currently within the course. 2. Click Add to insert the image. Page 54

URL 1. Paste the image URL into the text box. 2. Click Add to insert the image. Page 55

How to Download Microsoft Office University Store You will first need to access the BYU-I store website at https://www.byuistore.com/ Page 56

Microsoft Downloads Hover your mouse over the Technology tab, and then hover over the Free Microsoft Downloads tab. Click on Download. Sign In Page 57

Click the Sign In button. This will prompt you with with a log in screen. You will need to sign in with your BYU-Idaho credentials. Product Selection Click on the product you wish to download. For this tutorial, we are going to click on Office 2016. Page 58

Add to Cart This product is free for students - you will only run through the checkout system to "purchase" the free product in the system. Click on the Add to Cart button. Page 59

Checkout Click on the Shopping Cart button in the top right. Then click on the Check Out button in the bottom right. Note that this product is free. Page 60

License Agreement Read the license agreement and sign the document digitally using your Username and typed Signature. Click the Accept button. Page 61

Complete Order Verify that your name and email are correct and click the Proceed With Order button. Page 62

Download Software Once the order has been placed, click the Download button on the right hand side. Note that your product key is displayed in red below the Items subheading. You will need this key to install your product. After 30 days, the University does NOT keep record of this key, so write it down! Page 63

Finish Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with your download. Page 64

How Do I Make a Video Note on Discussion Board Posts? Select Discussion Board In the Discussions tab, select which discussion board you wish to add the note to. Click on the title of the discussion board to access it. Page 65

Start New Thread Click on the Start New Thread button to add a new post in which your video note will appear. Page 66

Insert Stuff Click on the Insert Stuff button in the top left. Page 67

Video Note Click on the Video Note option in the left hand column. You may have to allow Brightspace to use your camera and microphone if your camera and microphone do not automatically show up. The options will be different depending on what browser you are on. Page 68

Record Video When ready, Click the New Recording button and begin your Video Note. Stop Recording 1. Click Stop Recording Page 69

2. Click Next Title & Description 1. Give the video a Title and a Description (see description above). 2. Click Next to preview the video. Page 70

Insert Video Note Finally, you can either Click Insert to embed the video or Click Refresh Preview to preview before embedding it. Page 71

How do I set up and use SIMnet in my course? Introduction Some courses use SIMnet (from McGraw-Hill) as part of the textbook package. If your course is one of them, you will see a widget on your course homepage that looks like this. Create a SIMnet Account If you don't already have a SIMnet account, you will need to create one. (If you already have an account, just log in). 1. Select "No" if you do not already have a SIMnet account. 2. Enter your information. Your First Name and Last Name should populate automatically. Enter your school email address. Enter a SIMnet username. Enter your student ID number. Enter a Password for SIMnet. Confirm your password. 3. Read and click that you have read the Terms and Conditions. 4. Click Create (you may need to scroll to see the button). Once all of the fields are completed, the Create button activates and turns blue. You may now begin using SIMnet. Click Continue to SIMnet to get started. Page 73

How Do I View a Turnitin Originality Report for an Assignment? Assignments Click Assignments in the upper navigation bar. View Submission Find the assignment you wish to view the Turnitin Originality Report for. First click on the drop down menu, then click view submissions. Page 77

How Do I See A Rubric in My Course? Assignments Click Assignments in the upper navigation bar. Select Assignment Select the assignment with the rubric you wish to see. Page 79

How Do I Find My Final Calculated Grade? Follow the instructions below to learn how to access your final calculated grade. NOTE: You can only access your final calculated grade if your instructor has released final grades. If your Instructor has not released final grades it may be helpful to request for them to do so, by sending them this link. How Do I Release Final Grades to My Students? Class Progress 1. How Do Students Find Quiz Feedback? There are two places to find quiz feedback given to you by your Instructor. Check them both to ensure you are getting all the feedback your Instructor is leaving for you. Option 1 - Quiz Attempt Feedback 1. Click on My Grades in the upper navigation bar. 2. Class Progress >Assignments Click Assignments on the menu on the left hand side of the screen. Many students go to My Grades >Grades or My Grades >Class Progress >Grades to find their feedback. Neither of these methods will show the student the feedback they need. The Assignments tab shown in the step above is the only way to see all the feedback left by the instructor. Page 91

Details Look for Assignments that have Details listed below the title and grade of the assignment. Click Details to show feedback, rubrics, and other feedback files left by the instructor. Page 92

Details (Expanded) 1. This is an attachment left by the instructor. This could have the original document with notes from the instructor. 2. This link opens the rubric that has been completed by the instructor. It could provide details regarding why the assignment received the score given. 3. This is the original file submitted by the student for this assignment. Page 93

How do I Find Feedback on an Assignment Using TurnItIn? Some assignments may be graded with TurnItIn. When your instructor grades and leaves feedback through TurnItIn, feedback is not found in the usual places within I-Learn. Use the instructions below to find your feedback. How Do I Use the Mobile Pulse App? This app is not designed to be a fully functional platform. It is an app that helps students find out what s new and what s next. They can use it to stay up to date and prepared by unifying course calendars, assignments, grades, and news during the busiest times. Accessing any Content/Instructional pages will open within the app itself. When trying to access any activities like Quizzes, Assignments, or Discussion Boards, the app will redirect you to your phone's internet browser. 3. Calendar The standard view of the calendar is a Week View. It displays: 1. A "Pulse" style graphic displaying the workload for each day of the week. 2. A summary of due dates for assignments on a given day. Tap on any of the assignments for more information or to mark them as complete. The Schedule View displays all of the due dates in a list view. Accessing any Content/Instructional pages will open within the app itself. When trying to access any activities like Quizzes, Assignments, or Discussion Boards, the app will redirect you to your phone's internet browser. 3. Calendar The standard view of the calendar is a Week View. It displays: 1. A "Pulse" style graphic displaying the workload for each day of the week. 2. A summary of due dates for assignments on a given day. Tap on any of the assignments for more information or to mark them as complete. The Schedule View displays all of the due dates in a list view.
