Overview This document has been prepared to assist you in becoming familiar with Management Console for SharePoint. It explains how to install and use the product and is intended for network administrators, consultants, analysts, and any other IT professionals using the product. Conventions In order to help you get the most out of this guide, we have used specific formatting conventions. These conventions apply to procedures, icons, keystrokes and cross-references. ELEMENT CONVENTION Select Bolded text Italic text Bold Italic text This word refers to actions such as choosing or highlighting various interface elements, such as files and radio buttons. Interface elements that appear in Quest products, such as menus and commands. Used for comments. Introduces a series of procedures. Blue text Indicates a cross-reference. When viewed in Adobe Acrobat, this format can be used as a hyperlink. Used to highlight additional information pertinent to the process being described. Used to provide Best Practice information. A best practice details the recommended course of action for the best result. Used to highlight processes that should be performed with care. + A plus sign between two keystrokes means that you must press them at the same time. General Information Quest Management Console for SharePoint (QMC) is a host for Quest SharePoint products. The console provides the basic discovery and management functionality that is leveraged by other Quest products for SharePoint management and migration. System Requirements Before installing Quest Management Console for SharePoint, make sure the following system requirements are met: Platform Memory Disk space Intel Pentium 1 GHz processor (x86, x64) or equivalent 512MB of RAM ~ 30 MB of available hard disk space for install 200-300 MB of available hard disk space for logs Operating System Additional Software & Services One of the following: Windows Server 2003 SP1 or higher (recommended) Windows 2003 SP1 64-bit Windows Server 2008 Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 Microsoft Management Console 3.0 downloadable from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265. One of the following: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP1 or later SPs (remote or local) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 or later SPs (remote or local) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP1 64-bit 8

Required Permissions Management Console The account under which you run the setup must have the following rights: Be a member of the Local Administrators group on the computer where QMC console will be installed db_creator role for SQL server where QMC database will be created. Data Gathering The Data Gathering account is specified in the SPM-Default gathering job data collecting task and must have the following rights: Local Administrator rights on the computer hosting QMC console with enabled Logon as a batch job right db_owner role for QMC configuration or reporting database Local Administrator rights on all SharePoint front-end servers db_datareader role for SharePoint configuration and content databases. Discovery and Tree Browse The account used to discover (with the Add Farm Wizard) and manage SharePoint installations must have the following rights: Local Administrator rights on the computer where the QMC console is installed Local Administrator rights on all SharePoint Front-end servers db_owner role for QMC configuration or reporting database db_datareader role for SharePoint configuration and content databases. 9

Setting Permissions Setting Permissions on SQL Databases Create a login for the user who will install Quest Management Console for SharePoint to be able to login to the SQL server. 1. Open MS SQL Server Manager Studio. 2. Expand your SQL instance node. 3. Open the Security node and select the Logins node. 4. Right-click the Logins and select the New Login option. In the new login window enter the user name in the domain\user format. 10 5. Click OK. The login appears in the list of the Logins node.

6. Locate the login in the list and right-click it. The Login Properties page is displayed. 7. Select the database in the upper pane and set the permissions for the database in the lower pane: 8. Click OK. Alternatively, you can set permissions for a database as follows: 1. Expand your SQL instance node. 2. Expand the Databases node. Locate the required database. 3. Go to Security. 4. Right-click the Users node and select a new user. The Database User-New window is displayed. 5. Specify the login name and find it in the AD. 11

6. Select the appropriate permission in the Database role membership pane. 7. Click OK. Repeat these steps to grant permissions to the Quest Management Console account for the content and configuration SharePoint databases. 12

Granting Local Administrator Rights On every computer where Quest Management Console for SharePoint is installed, perform the following: 1. Right-click My Computer and select Manage from the short-cut menu. The Computer Management window appears. 2. Go to System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Groups. 3. In the right pane select Administrators. The Administrators Properties window appears. 4. Click Add. The Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog appears. 13

5. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog, enter the user name you want to grant administrators rights to. 6. Click OK. 14

Alternatively, you can grant local administrator rights as follows: 1. Go to Start > Control Panel. 2. In the Control Panel window, select User Accounts. The User Accounts dialog appears. 3. In the User Accounts dialog, select the Add... button. The Add New User window appears. 4. Enter the domain and name of a user you want to grant permissions. 5. Click Next. 6. Select the Other radio button and then Administrators from the drop-down list. 7. Click Finish. 15

Installation Procedure To install Management Console for SharePoint, run setup.exe and complete the Installation Wizard as follows: 1. On the Welcome page, click Next. 2. On the Configuration Database page, specify the database name to be used as configuration storage. Click Next. 3. On the Ready to Install the Application page, click Next to begin installation. 4. Once installation is completed, click Finish to exit the wizard. When installing Site Administrator for SharePoint on the computer hosting a Quest SharePoint product with Quest Management Console, QMC is automatically removed from the computer. 16

Add Server Farm Wizard Quest Management Console comes with the Add Server Farm Wizard, which allows the users to add an individual SharePoint server farm to the product scope. To run the wizard, right-click the Enterprise SharePoint node and select Add Server Farm from the shortcut menu. Complete the wizard as follows: 1. On the Welcome page, click Next. 2. On the Specify SharePoint Front-End Server page, specify one of the front-end servers in the SharePoint server farm you want to add. Click Next. 17

3. On the Scanning Server Farm page, you can see the activities taken and issues encountered during the scan process. Click Next. 4. On the Completing the Add Server Farm Wizard page, click Finish to exit the wizard. To check if all the web applications within the added SharePoint farm were registered by the product, expand the Enterprise SharePoint node. After you have added a SharePoint server farm to the product scope, the data gathering starts automatically. 18

Data Gathering Task When Quest Management Console is installed, the SPM-Default gathering job data collecting task is automatically created in the Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks in Windows. After you have added a SharePoint server farm to the product scope, the data gathering task is started automatically to collect information for the content and configuration databases. The data gathering task runs under the currently logged on user and does not require any additional account information or configuration. The task can be run under the account used during the setup. By default, the account password is not specified and the Run only if logged on checkbox is selected. To update the collected data, you can run the data gathering manually or configure its schedule. To start the data gathering manually: 1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks. 2. Right-click the SPM-Default gathering job data collecting task and select Run from the shortcut menu. To specify the schedule for the SPM-Default gathering job data collecting task: 1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks. 2. Right-click the SPM-Default gathering job data collecting task and select Properties from the shortcut menu. 3. Specify the schedule for data gathering in the Schedule tab. If you wish to run the data gathering task under a different account, perform the following: 1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks. 2. Right-click the SPM-Default gathering job data collecting task and select Properties from the context menu. 3. Specify the user account in the Run as field in the Task tab. 19

Working with SharePoint Environment Tree When you add a SharePoint server farm to Quest Management Console, the farm will be displayed under Enterprise SharePoint as "Configuration Database Name@SQL Server Name". SharePoint 2003 Server Farms are indicated with the icon, SharePoint 2007 Server Farms are indicated with the icon. Expand the farm node to see the web applications hosted on the farm. Virtual servers on a SharePoint 2003 are indicated with the applications on a SharePoint 2007 farm are indicated with the icon, web icon. Expand the web application node to see the site hierarchy in the web application. For each site you will have access to its content (lists and document libraries) and its child sites. When you select a site in the tree, the site home page is displayed in the right pane. When you select a list/document library, its default view is displayed. 20

Site Filter Options Quest Management Console provides the way to filter sites and subsites by the URL path and limit the number of the child sites to be displayed in the product console. Due to these capabilities users are allowed to work with the large number of sites and subsites in the tree. To modify Site Filter Options, perform the following steps: 1. Right-click the Enterprise SharePoint node and select the Site Filter Options item from the short-cut menu. The Site Filter And Limit dialog appears. By default, the Show all sites radio button is checked and the number of sites is set to 20. 2. Enable the filter for sites to be displayed in the product console: a) Check the Show only the sites with the URL path matching the following pattern radio button. b) Specify the URL path. You can specify several URL paths separating them by a semicolon. The specified conditions will be combined by the OR operation. Make sure that the specified URL path does not contain domain and port names as these URL parts are not filtered. 3. Limit the number of the displayed child sites: a) Specify the number of sites to be displayed in the tree in the Maximum number of sites displayed for a parent box. 4. Click OK. 21

The Quest Management console displays only the first N sites with the URL path matching the specified pattern. When filtering or site number limit is enabled, not all child sites of a container (web application or site) might be displayed in the tree. Such a container is marked then with the icon. If you want to return to the default settings, open the Site Filter And Limit dialog and click the Restore Defaults button. Note that site filtering and site number limit are user-defined, so different users can have different settings. 22
