Multi-Card Reader with Built-In Multi-Media Panel user manual Model 702775 MAN-702775-UM-0308-01

Thank you for purchasing the MANHATTAN Multi-Card Reader with Built-In Multi-Media Panel, Model 702775. Compatible with most card formats (see Specifications), this handy device lets you easily download and transfer digital images without having to directly connect the camera or other media device to the computer. The easy-to-follow instructions in this manual help make installation of the card quick and simple, so you ll also soon be enjoying the benefits of these features: Convenient front-mount USB, FireWire, microphone and audio ports Supports Automatic Card Detection and data transfer speeds up to 480 Mbps Windows and Mac compatible; hot swappable; Plug and Play Lifetime Warranty hardware installation NOTE: The position and labeling of USB and other connector ports vary among computer brands, which may require that you reference the motherboard specifications for clarification. Otherwise, use the images and wire chart below for guidance. 1. Connect the included cables to the card reader. (Each of the three connections on the reader will fit only the corresponding cable connector.) 2. Mount the reader into an available 5.25 bay, using the included screws to secure it in place. 3. Install the included bracket on the back of the computer chassis. 4. Pull the FireWire and audio cables through the bracket and plug them in to the corresponding ports on the back of the system.

5. Once the multi-card reader has been connected, turn on the computer and install the driver (for Windows 98SE only) as directed below. For Me/2000/XP/ Vista, go to Configuration. Right: Examples of how different Wire Connector Label computer manufacturers may Red, orange Power, VCC, SVCC, +5V label connectors corresponding White, yellow P, Data, SBD to specific cable wires. Also Green, gray P+, Data+, SBD+ Black, blue, brown Ground, Grnd, Gnd shown is a typical dual-head USB connection found on the motherboard. 1 3 5 7 9 NOTE: Normally, the connectors are labeled on the board; if not, contact the manufacturer. driver installation NOTE: This procedure is for Windows 98SE only. For computers with Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista, no additional driver installation is needed: Go to Configuration. 1. When the card reader is connected to a PC using Windows 98SE before the driver is installed, the Add New Hardware Wizard screen displays. Click Cancel. 2. Insert the included driver CD; then, in the root directory, double-click AM_ Reader_98Drv_ Setup to install the driver. 2 4 6 8

3. Click Multi-Media Panel ; click USB 2.0 Multimedia Panel (USB + Cardreader) ; click USB 2.0 Cardreader (Alcor) ; then select the Windows folder. 4. An InstallShield Wizard Complete message will display to indicate the driver has been properly installed and that a reboot is required. Click Finish to wrap up the procedure. configuration With the Multi-Card Reader connected, there will be four Removable Disk icons displayed. The disk drive letters (F:, G:, H: & I:, as shown in the sample image) are determined by the PC s configuration, which can vary; however, the sequence of the removable disk drives is fixed: SD family (SD/MMC) first, CF/MD second, SM third, MS Family (MS/MS Pro) fourth. SD CF SM MS F NOTE: Windows presents the option of installing a disk icon utility, which replaces the generic Removable Disk icons with card-specific ones.

1. Click on the Icon AP folder; click AU6375 AP V1.23(PID6362)support Multi_language to install the utility. 2. Click through the subsequent status screens. 3. When the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen displays, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now. Click Finish. Windows 98/Me/2000 disk icons: Windows XP/Vista disk icons: operating tips This Multi-Card Reader is a USB device designed to work under buspower mode; i.e., the power is drawn from a USB port and no power adapter is required. Though a full 500 ma can be drawn from the USB host to supply the card reader, during the initial enumeration stage only 100 ma from the host is available. To expedite and ensure the correct USB enumeration process between the computer and the card reader, it s recommended that the card reader not be connected with cards inserted in all four of the available slots.

In addition to showing the four Removable Disk icons on the Exploring My Computer screen, when correctly connected, the Multi-Card Reader should display a USB Mass Storage Device icon in the Hardware Device Manager folder. If there s no Removable Disk icon displayed in the explorer s window and the USB Mass Storage Device icon in Hardware Device Manager is shown with a question mark (?), it means the driver is not installed or not ready. If the reader s slots are full of cards while connecting to the PC, remove the cards and try again. Or, follow the aforementioned procedure to install the driver and icon utility. If there is no Removable Disk icon in the explorer s window and the USB Mass Storage Device icon in Hardware Device Manager is shown with an exclamation mark (!) or just reads Unknown Device, it means the reader is not recognized by the PC and may be defective. Disconnect the reader from the PC and re-connect it (reboot the PC and try again). If nothing changes, the card reader is defective. If there is no icon displaying, or if there is no response from the PC once the card reader is connected, the USB host of the PC may not be working. Reboot the PC and try again. If nothing changes, the USB host on the motherboard needs repair. Whenever possible, use the Safely Remove Hardware icon (on the lower-right corner of Window s task bar in the system tray area) to stop the USB device first before detaching it from a PC. This will protect both the USB device and the PC.
