Viewing Attachments in GroupWise on a Macintosh FAQ *Note-Your Macintosh should be running Mac OS 9.2.2 before following instructions below. For free Mac OS updates 9.1, 9.2.1 & 9.2.2, point your web browser to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288 **Note to Windows Users-for maximum compatibility, document names should be 31 characters or less. An allowance of four characters for Windows file extensions such as.doc,.xls, and.pdf should be included. Q1: Every time I try to open a Word Document or Excel Spreadsheet, it is too small to read and doesn t print correctly. Is there any way to fix this? A1: The document is too small to read or doesn t print correctly because it is being viewed from within GroupWise rather than opened in Word or Excel. To view the document in Word or Excel, it will need to be saved on your desktop or hard drive. There are two ways to save the file to your hard drive or desktop. First, you can drag the attachment either to your desktop or hard drive icon. Another method is to highlight the document in GroupWise by clicking on it once and clicking on File->Save As. Browse to the location where you want to store the document (The Documents folder is highly recommended). Now open Microsoft Word or Excel. Click on File->Open and browse to the location of the saved document. If the document is not visible, try selecting All Documents from the Show: drop-down menu. Click on the document, and then click the Open button. You should now be able to read and print the document as it was written. When finished with the document, be sure to click on File->Save so it will open in the preferred application next time. Q2: When I try to view attachments from GroupWise WebAccess, I always receive the message, Unable to view attachment/document because server is busy. Please try again later. If I click on Save As in Internet Explorer I receive the message below:

If I click on Save As in Netscape, I receive this message: In either case, I m not sure what to choose. Please help!!! A2: Internet Explorer and Netscape do not know how to handle attachments in GroupWise WebAccess. For Internet Explorer and Netscape to save attachments from GroupWise correctly, it is necessary to make an adjustment in the Internet control panel. To open the Internet control panel, click on Apple-> Control Panels->Internet.

Next, click on the Advanced tab and select File Mapping from the column on the left. Click within the File Extension Mappings window, then on the Add button and follow these steps: 1. Click on the Show Advanced Options button. 2. Enter Novell/WebAccess-GWNative in the Description and MIME Type boxes. 3. Select Macintosh from the Default Format box. 4. Select Saving to File from the Handle by drop-down menu. 5. Click the Add button at the bottom of the window. 6. Close the Internet control panel. Now when you click on Save as in GroupWise WebAccess, Netscape or Internet Explorer should display a dialog box requesting a name and location for the document. To open the document, please refer to Q&A #1.

Netscape Users-If issues still persist after following the instructions of Q&A #2, make a similar adjustment within Netscape as follows: 1. Open Netscape. Click on Edit->Preferences. 2. Select Applications from the Category column on the left. 3. Click on the New... button 4. Enter Novell/WebAccess-GWNative in the Description and MIME Type boxes. 5. Click on the Save to Disk button under Handled by. 6. Check the box next to Macintosh File in the File Info box. 7. Click OK and exit Netscape.

Netscape should properly handle attachments in GroupWise WebAccess from now on. *Reminder-Your Macintosh should be running Mac OS 9.2.2 before following instructions above. For free Mac OS updates 9.1, 9.2.1 & 9.2.2, point your web browser to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288 **Reminder to Windows Users-for maximum compatibility, document names should be 31 characters or less.
