BookFlix User s Guide Updated 04.19.10 The Reading Pair Screen 13

Word Match Word Match allows children to test their vocabulary by matching words with their definitions. To play the game, read the clue and click the word that correctly matches the clue. If the correct word is clicked, a portion of the underlying picture is revealed. When all the words are correctly clicked, the picture is shown and children see an animation congratulating them on a great job. Children may read the instructions or clues themselves, or they may hear them read to them by clicking the sound icons. When finished, children may click the Play Again button or click the links to one of the other two Puzzlers! games in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen. BookFlix User s Guide Updated 04.19.10 The Reading Pair Screen 14

Real or Make Believe? Real or Make Believe? challenges children with questions based on the events in the Featured Pair selections. Read the clue and click Real if the statement is something that can happen in real life or Make Believe if the statement is fictional. When children answer a question correctly, they see a Nice Work! message; if they answer incorrectly, they see a Try Again message. When children answer all three questions correctly, they see an animation congratulating them on a great job. Children may read the instructions or clues themselves, or they may hear them read to them by clicking the sound icons. When finished, children may click the Play Again button or click the links to one of the other two Puzzlers! games in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen. BookFlix User s Guide Updated 04.19.10 The Reading Pair Screen 15

Which Came First? Which Came First? tests children s reading comprehension by asking them to recall the chronological order of the video storybook. Children see three images from the video storybook and drag each one to the First, Next, or Last box to place them in the correct order. If they drag the first image to the correct box, the image gets locked in to the box; if they drag that image to the incorrect box, it flies back to its original location. They must correctly place the first image in its box to go on to the second image, and so on. Children may read the instructions or clues themselves, or they may hear them read to them by clicking the sound icons. When children place all three images correctly, they see an animation congratulating them on a great job. When finished, children may click the Play Again button or click the links to one of the other two Puzzlers! games in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen. BookFlix User s Guide Updated 04.19.10 The Reading Pair Screen 16

Children may read the biography themselves, or they may have it read to them by clicking the Listen button. BookFlix User s Guide Updated 04.19.10 The Reading Pair Screen 17

Explore the Web Click the Explore the Web link to go to the Explore the Web Screen, which contains links to further Theme-related activities. Click the Go button next to the link to go to the website described. The website will open in a separate browser window. BookFlix User s Guide Updated 04.19.10 The Reading Pair Screen 18
