Atom?! Intel Atom is the brand name for a line of ultra-lowvoltage x86 and x86-64 CPUs from Intel (45nm) Direct successor of the Intel A100 and A110 The Intel Atom is low-power, low-cost and lowperformance Better performance and increased system responsiveness Designed for A new range of power-efficient devices Smaller, more compact designs Highly integrated application processor Netbooks, Entry-level desktops, Tablets, Handhelds, Smartphones, Consumer electronics (CE) devices, and other companion devices

Dxxx Series The major new features codenamed "Pineview" which utilizes the "Lincroft" systemon-a-chip architecture and is used in the "Pine Trail" platform. includes longer battery life, with 6 cell systems reporting 10 or more hours of battery life Total kit power goes from 11.8 W to 7 W (TDP) with the new processor and chipset, a 40% improvement D510 and D410 with integrated graphics Intel GMA 3150, a 45 nm shrink of the GMA 3100 with no HD capabilities, is included as the on-die GPU Include the Atom N450 for netbooks and the D510 and D410 for nettop and low end desktops.
D500 Series Code name "Pineview" is the new Atom processor that combines the CPU with Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics, "Pine Trail" is the name for the platform, combining the Atom "Pineview" processor with the NM510 Express motherboard chipset. Generic Features Bus Turbo Mode Burst Performance Technology (Intel BPT) Functional Features The Atom D510 processor features dual core running at 1.66 GHz, with 1 MB of L2 cache. Power requirements are rated at 13 watts. Dual core processors with HyperThreading, which means they support up to four streams of computing data.

Functional Specification Can execute up to two instructions per cycle. Clock speed of 1.66GHz ( Windows 7's basic requirements.) 45nm transistor gate length (line width) HyperThreading, so the single core processors (N450, D410) can process two streams at once, while the D510 can process four. GPU and memory controller are integrated onto the processor die Transistors: 176 million Die Size: 87 mm² (9.56 9.06) Package Size: 22 mm 22 mm

Pine Trail Platform Integrate the memory controller and graphics, eliminating the "middle" or "Northbridge" chip in the nettops and netbooks. moves the GPU and memory controller onto the CPU die Result Smaller package that consumes less power when coupled with intel's NM10 "Tigerpoint" chipset.
Memory and Thermal Description N450 Supports DDR2-667MHz memory maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) of only 5.5W D410 and D510 D410 and D510 support DDR2-667 and DDR2-533MHz memory. Have Max TDPs of 10W and 13W, respectively. Reasons: D500 series have integrated graphics cores, which account for the additional power usage. Because of single chip on D500, it needs more power for dissipate heat than N450. D500 Needs more fan to keep it cool than N450. D500 produces more noises than single core N450.

Performance evaluation and comparison Intel Atom D and N Series Performance comparison Compared with Intel Pentium: The performance of a single core Atom is about half of a Pentium M of the same clock rate. Compared with Intel Atom Diamondville: Pineview platform is not much faster than the previous Diamondville platform. Direct competitor: AMD - Athlon Neo higher TDP (15W) than Atom With 27 mm 27 mm in size and 2.5 mm in thickness (Bigger than Atom) Equipped with 512 KB of L2 cache and HyperTransport 1.0 running at 800 MHz frequency.(lower performance than Atom)
