It provides Web Operator installation information in a task-based format that can be employed as a personal reference guide or as part of a training materials package. The Web Operator server requires the Tomcat servlet engine, MySQL database management system, and Java 2 Software Development Kit (SDK). Client workstations require a Web browser and Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE). With the exception of a Web browser, the SPECTRUM application CD and Web Operator server provide all the software required to install and run Web Operator. Table 1 lists the software and corresponding version number provided on the CD and Web Operator server. Note: Aprisma has tested and certified the software provided on the SPECTRUM application CD and Web Operator server. Later versions of software have not been tested but can be used at your own discretion. Does Your System Meet Installation Requirements? This section lists the minimum specifications for running SPECTRUM Web Operator. Meeting or exceeding these requirements ensures that Web Operator performs per specification on your system. Also, make sure you carefully read the documentation requirements and installation considerations detailed in this section. Minimum Requirements for Web Operator Servers Before installing the Web Operator server, make sure your Solaris or Windows workstation meets the requirements listed in Table 3: Web Operator Server Requirements (Solaris), or Table 4: Web Operator Server Requirements (Windows). Documentation Requirements Before installing Web Operator, read the SPECTRUM Software Release Notice (0743), which describes new features and identifies any known anomalies. Page 10

SpectroSERVER Considerations Although you can install on your production SpectroSERVER host workstation, doing this on a single-cpu workstation may degrade the performance of the SpectroSERVER, as well as. To maximize the performance of the SpectroSERVER and the in a single-cpu environment, we recommend that you do not install on your production SpectroSERVER host workstation. If you need to combine both SPECTRUM and Web Operator on a single workstation, install SPECTRUM first, and then install Web Operator. Minimize the number of clients connecting to the same SpectroSERVER workstation. Multiple connections slow down, as well as put additional workload on the SpectroSERVER. Keep the number of alarms at an absolute minimum. If installing Web Operator on a SpectroSERVER, make sure that MySQL is running. MySQL Considerations Avoid installing third-party applications that use MySQL. Their presence could cause unwanted and unexpected results, such as errors in running Archive Manager and. If you remove SPECTRUM before installing Web Operator on a server, make sure that you run the SPECTRUM uninstaller (see the instructions for uninstalling SPECTRUM). Running the uninstaller before installing Web Operator ensures that SPECTRUM, the MySQL Database, and the MySQL Service are removed properly. Page 11

Upgrading from an Earlier Version of Web Operator This section explains how to upgrade Web Operator from version 2.6, 6.5.0, or 6.5.1 to version 6.6. It also explains how to retain any global or user preferences you may have created in an earlier version of Web Operator. Installing Web Operator Server on Solaris This section explains how to install the SPECTRUM Web Operator server on a Sun SPARCstation/Solaris 2.7 or 2.8. To install the Web Operator server, you must complete the following procedures in the order they appear in this section. Verify that all associated SpectroSERVERS are running. 2. Verify that you are a valid SPECTRUM administrator in SPECTRUM s UserEditor, as described in the Security and User Maintenance Guide (2602). 3. Verify that the Solaris workstation on which you are installing has host access to all associated SpectroSERVER workstations. Installing Java 2 SDK on Solaris Procedure 1. Log in to your Solaris server as root. 2. Insert the SPECTRUM applications CD into the CD drive of your Solaris server. 3. Copy the j2sdk-1_3_1-solsparc.sh file from the weboperator/jdk1_3_1 directory on the CD to the /opt directory on your Solaris server. cp <cd drive>/weboperator/jdk1_3_1/j2sdk-1_3_1-solsparc.sh/ /opt 4. Change the directory to /opt. cd /opt 5. To allow permission to execute, run the chmod command. chmod +x j2sdk-1_3_1-solsparc.sh 6. Run the self-extracting binary. j2sdk-1_3_1-solsparc.sh 7. Follow the installation wizard instructions. Note: To save disk space on your Solaris server, you can delete j2sdk-1_3_1-solsparc.sh from the /opt directory. Page 20

Running the Installation Software on Solaris Procedure 1. In the Install window, click the hyperlink to install Web Operator. If autorun does not start, navigate to the WebOperator directory and type./setup.bin and press Enter to run the installation software. 2. Enter the system s root user password. 3. Follow the instructions provided by the Web Operator installation software and enter the installation parameters listed in Table 10 when prompted. Accept or do not accept the terms of the License Agreement. You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue the installation. The SPECTRUM software extraction key issued to you by Aprisma. Note: This is the same extraction key used to install SPECTRUM. Make sure the Platform and Version in the SPECTRUM Extraction Key window match the extraction key. Java 2 SDK Location Note: If Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, version 1.3.1 is already installed on your workstation, this window does not appear. Choose Install Folder The location where Java 2 SDK is installed on the Web Operator server. For example, /opt/j2sdk1_3_1, as described in Installing Java 2 SDK on Solaris [Page 20]. The location where you want to install SPECTRUM Web Operator. The default directory is /usr/spectrum. Important: Spaces are not allowed in folder names. Page 21

The SPECTRUM host containing the home user models, the port on the location server to which the Web Operator server connects (0xdaff by default), and the Osagent port (14000 by default). Note: If your server environment includes a Network Address Translation (NAT) firewall, you must copy the.natrc file to the <$SPECROOT>/WebApps directory on the Web Operator server before continuing past the SPECTRUM Server Configuration window. For more information about the.natrc file, see the Distributed SpectroSERVER Guide (2770). Web Administrator User The User Name and Password of the user that you designate as the Web Operator administrator. Note: The username of the Web Operator administrator must match exactly (case sensitive) with a valid SPECTRUM administrator user. However, you can select any password. SPECTRUM User Name (for DBWriter) Note: This window appears on Web Operator Suite installations only. URL Install Complete The name of the valid SPECTRUM user (who is also a valid user on the Solaris operating system), who runs and schedules a process called DBWriter. This process gathers alarm and event data for Alarm and Event Reports. Input is not required. You can launch SPECTRUM Web Operator or complete the installation without launching Web Operator. If you launch Web Operator you must return to the URL window and complete the installation at another time. Input is not required. Page 22

Installing Web Operator Server on Windows NT or 2000 This section explains how to install the SPECTRUM Web Operator server on a workstation running Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000. To install the Web Operator server, you must complete the following procedures in the order they appear in this section. Installing Web Operator in Distributed SpectroSERVER Environments This section provides guidelines for installing Web Operator in Distributed SpectroSERVER (DSS) environments. For more information, see the Distributed SpectroSERVER (2770) Guide. Procedure 1. Do one of the following: To install Web Operator on Solaris, complete the procedures in Installing Web Operator Server on Solaris [Page 19]. To install Web Operator on Windows NT or 2000, complete the procedures in Installing Web Operator Server on Windows NT or 2000 [Page 23]. 2. Make sure Web Operator has access to the SpectroSERVER (for example, make sure that Web Operator does not have restricted access on a router s Access Control List). 3. Make sure Web Operator users have access to all SpectroSERVERS from where Model Search, Quick Search and Alarm Manager will connect. 4. To limit the landscapes accessed by DBWriter (a process that gathers alarm and event data), Alarm Manager, Model Search, and Quick Search, see the Administrator Guide (5079). Note: By default, DBWriter attempts to access every Archive Manager on every SpectroSERVER in the landscape map. Setting up a filter limits the landscapes accessed by DBWriter and saves time. 5. Make sure the HOME models of all users are consolidated on the SPECTRUM host that you specified during installation. For more information on HOME models, see the Security and User Maintenance (2602) Guide. Page 27

Installing Web Operator in Fault Tolerant Environments This section explains how to set up a backup location server. When the connection is lost between the Web Operator Server and the primary location server, the connection switches to the secondary location server. Procedure 1. Using a text editor, open the following file: <$SPECROOT>/WebApps/.LocalRegFile 2. In the BackupLocationServers= parameter, add the secondary location server s host name (for example, hostname.aprisma.com) and server port (for example 0xdaff), as shown in the following example: BackupLocationServers=hostname.aprisma.com,0xdaff 3. You need the Java JRE to access the Web Operator Alarm Reports and Event Reports applications. Procedure 1. Do one of the following: If the port you specified during installation is 80 (the default), point your Web browser to the following URL: http://<hostname>/spectrum/install-java.jsp Note: <hostname> is the name of the workstation on which you installed. If the port you specified during installation is not 80, point your Web browser to the following URL: http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/spectrum/install-java.jsp Note: <hostname> is the name of the workstation on which you installed and <portnumber> is the port number specified during the installation. 2. In the Installing the Java 2 Runtime Environment window (see Figure 1), click Java 2 Runtime Environment to download the JRE. Page 29

In the Save As dialog box, do one of the following: To download j2re-1_3_1-win.exe to the default folder, click Save. To download j2re-1_3_1-win.exe to a different folder, select the folder; then click Save. 5. In the download folder, double-click j2re-1_3_1-win.exe to start the JRE installation. 6. In the Software License Agreement window, click Yes. 7. In the Choose Destination Location window, do one of the following: To install the JRE to the default folder, click Next. To install the JRE to a different folder, click Browse, select the folder; then click Next. Page 30

Setting Up Web Operator Client in a Proxy Server Environment This procedure is required if you are running Web Operator in a proxy server environment. Procedure 1. On the workstation running the Web Operator client, open the Control Panel. 2. Double-click Java Plug-in 1.3.1. 3. In the Java (TM) Control Panel dialog box, click the Proxies tab. 4. Remove the check from the Use Browser Settings box. 5. Click Apply. 6. Close the Java (TM) Control Panel dialog box. 7. Start Web Operator as described in Starting Web Operator [Page 32]. Securing Web Operator Clients: Disable Change Password The Change Password link at the bottom of Web Operator pages can be removed for security and operator ease of use. This is done by editing WACdisableChangePass in the wac.prf preference file to reflect true. For more information, see the Administrator Guide (5079). Note: The existing wac.prf file is not overwritten during an upgrade. Page 31
