Guide to using the NYSED TEACH system to create a TEACH Account and enter an application for certification This Handbook is an approximation of what an individual will find when logging onto and using the New York State TEACH On-Line System. The Handbook coupled with the Queens College Program Code Information Sheet should enable the candidate to select and apply for the correct certification. Important Information The Certification issuance dates (Initial/Professional or Provisional/Permanent) are on the date that New York State issues the certification If you are applying for Initial/Provisional certification: o Your Initial Certificate will NOT be mailed to you. As of 02/01/10, the New York State Department of Education no longer prints out your Initial Certification. If you would like a paper copy of your certificate, you can request one on-line from the TEACH Website for an additional fee. Otherwise, please check your New York State Account for confirmation of your certification. Upon receiving a Professional or Permanent Certification the state will mail you a copy of the certificate. o When being recommended by a college for certification, you must complete seminars that are required by the NYS Department of Education. The Child Abuse, School Violence, and DASA (Dignity for All Students Act) seminars will be posted on your TEACH Account if you use a provider which electronically sends the information to the State. The School Safety, and Alcohol & Drug Abuse seminars are required by Queens College to recommend you for certification. In all cases a hard copy must be kept in order to present that documentation to the Teacher Certification Office when you are completing your program and seeking to be recommended for certification. o Verify that the NYS Education Department has your fingerprints on file. You can check this on your TEACH Account. You MUST have fingerprint clearance in order to be issued your certification. If applying for Professional/Permanent Certification, you must send the following to the NYS Education Department: o Verification of Professional Experience Form http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/pdf/ot37permprof.pdf Professional = 3 years of full time teaching or 540 days total part-time/substitute teaching. Please Note: Teaching Assistant and Para-Professional Experience DOES NOT APPLY towards teaching experience. Permanent = Minimum of 2 years full-time pupil personnel experience or 360 days of part-time/substitute work experience. School Building Leader: http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/pdf/ot39.pdf SBL and SDL professional applicants must also submit a copy of their Masters/Graduate Official Transcript. o Proof of your Mentored experience: First year observed/supervised as a full-time classroom teacher or SBL http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/resteachers/mentoringreq.html

After typing in your email and typing in the confirmation press the button CONFIRM 20 19

This is the Teach Home Menu. This Menu can always be reached going to the top of whatever page you are on and selecting the hot link HOME. Update your personal information. Click on link Update/Add Education/Personal Information and fill in all pertinent information in this section before applying for your certification 21 20

The next two screens are the main screen whenever you want to update your personal, education, and employment information The first area you want to update is your personal information if things have changed in your life situation. select 22 21

These two next screens will direct you on how to update your personal information when you make changes in your life Complete changing your information and Then scroll down the screen and select SUBMIT 24 23

When you select NEXT it brings you back to the Main Menu Screen you have updated your Personal Information. The next thing to update is your Education AGAIN Select the link Update/Add Education/Personal Information and fill in all pertinent information in this section before applying for your certification 26 25

The next two screens are the main screen whenever you want to update your personal, education, and employment information the next area you want to update is your education information select 26 27

If you are declaring new education programs you have taken and they are Teacher Preparation Programs, make sure the circle pointed to is selected Then select the program information with The drop down menus below After filling out the information select ADD 29 28

When you select NEXT it brings you back to the Main Menu Screen You have updated your Education Information. The next thing to update is your Employment Information AGAIN Select the link Update/Add Education/Personal Information and fill in all pertinent information in this section before applying for your certification 31 30

The next two screens are the main screen whenever you want to update your personal, education, and employment information The next area you want to update is your employment information if you have full-time/part-time teaching experience Scroll down to the Edit Employment link 32 31

These next two screens are the screens you will see on the TEACH Website to update your teaching experience Insert information in the each area describing your teaching experiences After completing this section scroll down and select ADD 34 33

After editing and adding your personal, educational, and teaching experience, APPLY FOR YOUR CERTIFICATION Sect the link Apply for Certificate 36 35

Read information on the screen and press Next 37 36

If you need to add or change information with regard to your personal information, education information, or teaching experience it can be edited on this screen 38 37

The next two screens gives you an example of the drop down menus you will use to apply for certification 40 39

When you are Finished applying For your certification, Click the button ADD After reviewing the Certifications listed, Press the button NEXT 41 40

Enter the Program Code of the Queens College Program you have completed. Using the Excel Spreadsheet you will obtain the correct code. Enter Program Code and the select SUBMIT 42 41

Fill in the circle next to the certification you just applied for and then click the button NEXT 43 42

The electronic website gives you the opportunity to apply for another certification. These two screens allow you to do so. If you are applying for one Certification at this point scroll down and press the button NEXT. 44 43

Fill in the circle indicating that you want your application to be reviewed by the NYS Department of Education Then press NEXT 46 45

Indicated on the next two screens are questions to answer concerning child support and moral character determination issues. When you click on the button sign affidavit you are signing an official document. 47 46

When you click on SIGN APPLICATION you are agreeing to pay the $50.00 dollar fee on-line when you are recommended by your Institution for Certification 49 48

The next two screens contain the Application Transaction Summary will be a delineation of all the requirements that are necessary to obtain the certification you have applied. 50 49

Print out the Application Transaction Summary for your records Then press the button NEXT 51 50

When making a payment the easiest way is through a credit card payment. Select the certificate you wish to pay for By filling in the appropriate square next to the certification and then select SUBMIT. 52 51

Fill in the credit card information and select PROCESS MY PAYMENT 53 52

Print out this screen - it is proof that the NYS Department of Education accepted your payment After Printing out this screen go to the top of the screen and select HOME 53 54

After applying and paying for your certification check the information in your account on the TEACH Website Sect the link ACCOUNT INFORMATION 55 54

This is the next screen you will see. You will be using the blue section to get information Regarding various aspects of your account. 56 55

On this screen you go to the drop down arrow a box appears from where you can Select one of the categories listed in your account. 57 56

The section Certificates was selected. After selecting (in this case) Certificates select the hot link GO. When you select the GO link, a report of your account certificates will be listed. 58 57

The next two pages lists the account of your certificates issued and applications. 59 58

If you have VIEW EVALUATION HISTORY on your certification applications you can check to see what is required to get the certification you are seeking by clicking on VIEW EVALUATION HISTORY. 61 60
