Fire Control System Controlling doors and elevator systems with electronic card access control requires the interface to a fire alarm or suitable protection device to unlock doors and elevator floors in the case of a fire alarm condition. Prior to the installation of ANY access control or security system you MUST consult your local fire marshal and authorities to verify how the access control system must operate under a fire alarm condition. It is the responsibility of the installation company and the building owner to ensure the personal safety of occupants using the premise. We recommend that all installations of the system use some form of fire control or free egress system. Integrated Control Technology recommends that ANY egress device break the electrical circuit to the locking device independent of the controller or reader device request to exit function. INSTALLATION Introduction The Installation Guide provides a step by step installation guide for the Protégé System Management Suite. This manual requires that the person installing the Protégé System Management Suite has an intermediate working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Details of basic Windows functionality are beyond the scope of this document. When installing the Protégé System Management Suite client the person installing MUST have a sound understanding of DCOM and the configuration parameters required for the workgroup or domain that they are administering. Details of DCOM and associated security policies within Windows are beyond the scope of this document. Administrative Permission Requirements To install Protégé System Management Suite, you must have administrator permissions. You do not need to have domain administrative permissions. See your system administrator for information about administrative permissions. To run a client Protégé System Management Suite, you do not need administrator permissions. You can run the client application program as a limited user on a workstation provided the correct security settings have been configured on the server and workstation. How to Review System Requirements Make sure that the computer on which you install Protégé System Management Suite meets the system requirements. If your system does not meet the system requirements, many problems can occur, both within Protégé System Management Suite and at the operating system level. To review the system requirements, see System Requirements (Page 11). How to Locate Your Serial Number When you are activating Protégé System Management Suite, you are prompted for your serial number. Make sure to have this number available before you activate the program so that you don't have to stop in the middle of the installation. Your serial number is located on the CD-ROM and the inside of the enclosure. How to Avoid Data Loss During Installation The Protégé System Management Suite installation process may stop if some applications (such as Microsoft Outlook or virus-checking programs) are running. Close all running applications to avoid possible data loss. It is strongly recommended that you backup any previous database before upgrading. Backing up the database right away protects you against damage caused by an installation failure or database upgrade malfunction. Protégé System Management Suite Installation Guide 4

How to Install Protégé System Management Suite To use the product, you must install the product using the serial number provided, execute the application and follow the online registration information. This will then allow you to launch it. Starting the Installation The installation will automatically start when the CD-ROM is inserted. If you do not have MSDE installed already you will be immediately prompted to install MSDE as shown below. If you are installing a client only select the No option and continue the installation. To continue select the Yes option and allow the MSDE installation to complete, this can take up to 2-3 minutes. If you have received the files by electronic transmission or downloaded from the Integrated Control Technology ftp server extract the zip file to a known directory, for our example c:/ict and execute the ptsetup.exe file. The c:\ict directory can be deleted when the installation has completed. Entering Product Serial Number Once you have completed the MSDE installation the next step in the installation is to enter the CD-Key or Product Serial Number. See the section How to Locate Your Serial Number on Page 4. Figure 1 Enter Product Serial Number and Company Information To continue select the Next option. 5 Protégé System Management Suite Installation Guide
