NZQF NQ Ref 1200 Version 2 Page 2 of 7 National Certificate in Specialist Rescue (Rope Instructor) (Level 4) Level 4 Credits 85 Purpose This qualification is designed for people in the emergency response industry who have a role in responding to specialist level rope rescue incidents, and who also provide training and assessment within this discipline, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. This may include personnel from a wide range of sectors, including Civil Defence, Fire Service, Police, Ambulance, community rescue, urban search and rescue, wilderness search and rescue, private companies, and industrial rope access companies. People awarded this qualification are able to demonstrate a range of knowledge and skills specific to specialist rope rescue operations, as well as generic training and assessment skills. On successful completion of the Compulsory and Elective A sections people are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in: rope rescue casualty rescue urban search and rescue confined space safety fall protection rigging aircraft safety radio communication health and safety first aid on job training assessment of learning interpersonal skills. Standards in Electives B and C give flexibility to the qualification and allow the candidate to choose from a selection of civil defence, emergency services, and industrial rope access standards, with the balance of credits, if required, able to be selected from anywhere on the National Qualifications Framework. The National Certificate in Specialist Rescue (Rope Instructor) (Level 4) [Ref: 1200] builds on the knowledge and skills recognised by the award of the National Certificate in Specialist Rescue (Rope Technician) (Level 3) [Ref: 1198].

Compulsory All the standards listed are required. Elective A A minimum of one standard is required from each of Sets 1, 2, and 3. Elective B A minimum of 10 credits at level 4 or above is required from the specified subfield and/or domain. Elective C The balance of credits, if required to meet the qualification s requirement for a minimum of 85 credits of which at least 50 credits are at level 4 or above, may come from anywhere on the National Qualifications Framework. Award of NQF Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (Id).
