Welcome to the Training Spot Precision Ag Update Presented by Sept 6, 2016 Precision Ag Data: Standards, Interoperability, Integration, and its IMPACT! 2 2 1
Precision Ag Adoption Close to 60% among top 120,000 farmers that farm approximately 75%+ of the tillable acres use precision ag technology All forecasts and surveys indicate continued adoption and increased usage Adoption and usage will increase with standardization of data, common message structure, and communication protocol changing traditional industry business segments 3 Data Standards = Interoperability Data Standards are necessary for interoperability.and they are being developed AgGateway Standardized Precision Ag Data Exchange (SPADE) project has developed standards to support interoperability.throughout the crop cycle Standards will impact all segments of agriculture. it removes barriers 4 2

Precision Ag Data Standards Precision Ag Data Standard Organizations ISO, ASABE, AEF, AEM and AgGateway are collaborating on establishing data standards and processes. This work started in August 2011 and is now being implemented with public commercial use scheduled to begin in 2017. Standard foundation ISO 11783 7 ISO 11783 Machine Control Standard The demand from farmers and operators for a terminal to operate machines and devices irrespective of their manufacturer has become reality with the ISOBUS. Data standards will cause regulatory oversight to increase; and allow direct access to producers, i.e. ACRSI. 18 9

USDA Ag Domain on NIEM (National Information Exchange Model) USDA Slide, July 2016 1920 10
NEW! USDA Ag Domain on NIEM NIEM AGRICULTURE DATA DOMAIN: A collaborative site for official USDA data elements and data standards. o This is the official site for distributing common USDA Data Standards and data elements in support of Food, Farms, Forests and Families. o USDA is following the best practices and guidance from the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) as it pursues becoming a NIEM domain. o The first subdomain is in support of USDA s Acreage and Crop Reporting and Streamline Initiative (ACRSI) project, which has established standard data elements and data specifications. 2021 NEW! USDA Ag Domain on NIEM USDA has set up the Ag Domain on NIEM for public/private collaboration as the USDA creates complete, full-described data standards for third-party interfacing with USDA. o This collaboration site is intended: o USDA program managers o Business analysts o Developers o US Federal Agencies o Members of the public o Industry Partners 2122 11
Impact of NIEM on Agriculture Identical to what has occurred in law enforcement and health. Increased regulation and oversight Increased data mining for compliance Increased analysis of program cost and benefit Enhanced speed to evaluate program and make program changes Enhanced access by third-parties Result - it will impact who is the farmer s trusted advisor 2223 Standardized Data + Connectivity = Trusted Advisor D Rate and Section Control Precision Guidance Data and Asset Tracking 2324 12

Data Standards Create Challenges and Opportunity Standardization will change the marketplace. Private industry will leverage interoperability to provide effective solutions for ag related problems and challenges. Government will leverage standardization to increase oversight and accountability. 27 Data Standardization and Crop Insurance Standardized Data and Interoperability Impact: Data accuracy field boundary (CLU), acreage, production Policy administration efficiency underwriting, acreage and production reports, claims, compliance Policy design best practices Program administration prevent planting, production reporting, loss adjustment, compliance 2628 14
Data Standardization and Crop Insurance Cont d Utilizing Standardization = Increase Automation: Planted crop acreage machine reported Production reporting machine reported Claims notice of loss machine reported Loss adjustment inspection efficiency inspection requirements change Compliance inspections reduced for precision ag users 2729 Precision Ag Data Integration Goals Improve efficiency and accuracy of acreage and production reporting for agents and company Improve efficiency and accuracy of loss adjustment inspections Improve efficiency and accuracy of compliance reviews Provide a growth platform for agents and company 2830 15
Precision Ag Integration Conclusion Precision ag data is being standardized: It will improve data quality It will improve the farmer s management capabilities and farm operations It will generate more regulation It will demand excellent data management systems It will change the crop insurance program It will change who is the farmer s trusted advisor 2931 Precision Ag Integration Conclusion Standardization will change traditional business segments but will provide opportunity for growth and efficiency in the future for those who embrace it. Precision ag data will generate value-based differentiation for companies and agencies who desire to grow in size and improve in efficiency. 3032 16
