Kinetic Activity Monitor User Guide

Getting Started You can set up your KAM using a computer or on our mobile app for ios (Android coming soon). Setting up your KAM on a computer 1 2 Plug the bluetooth dongle into an available USB port on your computer. Go to KershHealth.com/help/am300 to download and install the KAM driver onto your PC (Mac coming soon). PC Requirements Windows 7, 8 or 10 Internet Connection USB Port Click on the download link to start the installation Follow the on-screen instructions and select RUN when prompted After the driver has been successfully installed, a small KAM icon will be displayed in the windows system tray as shown below: PC: 2

3 4 Insert the battery into the KAM using the instructions on page 13. To link a bluetooth device with a computer is called pairing. To pair your KAM with your computer, please follow these steps: Click on the KAM Tray App icon to open the application window. Ensure that the Connectivity Status is connected (green) across the board. Click on the Device Pairing Configuration menu item at the bottom of the app. Enter the serial number of your KAM and click Send Pin. Your serial number is found on the back of your device. Now look at the screen of your KAM. You should see a 4-digit pin number. Enter the pin in the application and click Pair. Your device is now paired! Click the Sync Now & Display button to sync your KAM. 3

Registered wellness participants with a KAM pre-linked to their account will be logged into the Kersh website after syncing. Registered participants with an unlinked KAM will need to click on Sync To an Existing account option near the top of the online Account Creation form to continue. Your existing Kersh username and password is required. For new members whose KAM is not pre-linked to their account, you will need to follow the steps in the Account Creation form to set up a new Kersh account. A registration code is required in order to do this. If you do not know your registration code please contact Kersh Support for assistance. Your KAM will try and update its firmware automatically in the background. We recommend that you allow the KAM to update itself before you begin using it the first time. This can be accomplished by leaving the KAM close to its USB dongle for 10 minutes after you complete all the steps above. 5 Clip the KAM on your belt or waistband and start moving! 4

6 After you have worn the KAM and paired the device, syncing becomes automatic. Periodically, the KAM will sync multiple times per day. If you want to force a sync at any time, there is a Sync Now option on your PC or phone. You must have a registered account to access your personal portal; the information from your KAM will be automatically uploaded to this page. Keep your personal stats on KershHealth.com up to date and access these features: Set up and customize your personal profile Store and track your KAM points and other activity metrics Engage with other KAM users through games and friends features Setting up your KAM on a mobile device You can set up and wirelessly sync your KAM using your smart phone. You can download our free ios (Android Phone app coming soon) and follow the installation process in the app. 5

What s included? Your box includes: 1. KAM Activity Monitor Device, Model AM300 2. Bluetooth Dongle 3. Quick Start Guide 4. 3V Coin Battery, CR 2032 CR2032 3V + LITHIUM CELL 6

Understanding the KAM The KAM In the engine of a car, fuel is combined with oxygen to make the car move. The same is true for your body. As you start to move, you expend energy and increase oxygen intake. When you drive, you rely on your car s dashboard to tell you how fast you are going, how hard your engine is working, and how much fuel you have. The KAM is your body s physical activity dashboard. It measures how active you are (KAM Points), how hard your body is working (Zone Minutes), and how your body burns fuel (Calories). The KAM Point If you were to lie in bed all day, your body would need a certain amount of energy to just survive. The is your Basal Metabolic Rate, or BMR. BMR is different for each individual, and is affected by weight, height, age, and gender. As you start to move, you start to use energy above your BMR. The KAM Point is a metric that combines frequency, intensity, and duration of movement into a single measure. A simple way to think of it is: 1 KAM Point is roughly equal to a 1 % increase above your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). 7

Knowing your KAM To change the screen, simply hold the KAM in your hand and tilt it forward towards the ground. Tilt it back up again to this position. The next screen will appear. Repeat to cycle through the various screens. At-A-Glance The At-A-Glance screen gives you KAM Points, Calories and Zone Minutes all on one screen. KAM Points The KAM Points screen shows you how many points you have earned. At midnight, the KAM will reset itself to zero. This does not delete the data, it is uploaded to your account the next time you sync. Zones Zones will track your rate of speed and the number of minutes you spend each day in each intensity zone: Life Zone (<2 mph) Health Zone (2-4 mph) Sport Zone (> 4.5 mph) 8

Goals The Goals screen shows you how many KAM points you have earned towards your goal. You can set your target goal on your personal account at KershHealth.com Calories The Calories calculated by the KAM are specific to you, and are influenced by your: Height Weight Age Gender Clock When you sync your KAM, the clock will automatically set to the time on your computer. To conserve battery life, your KAM sleeps during periods of inactivity. KAM will go to sleep after approximately a minute and a half if no movement is detected. Once your KAM is asleep, its display will remain off until moved. 9

Using the KAM Point Here are the health effects for the 5 different KAM point ranges. Daily KAM Points Health Effect Endurance Range 50+ KAM pts/day Weight Loss Range 30-49 KAM pts/day MORE POINTS Weight loss, increased energy and mental sharpness. Decreased risk of heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer. Heart Health Range 20-29 KAM pts/day Inactive Range 10-19 KAM pts/day Sedentary Range 0-9 KAM pts/day LESS POINTS Decreased energy and mental sharpness, increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, and weight gain. 10

Wearing the KAM The KAM accumulates points most when worn correctly. The KAM is designed to be worn on your waist in line with the knee. You can wear it on your belt. It works face-out or turned backwards. You can clip the KAM to pants without a belt. Women can also clip it to their bra strap in the back or to their undergarments. You can place the KAM on your shoe or sock when riding a bike or when you are on the elliptical trainer (because your hips are stationary). The KAM is a tough, rugged device that can be used in almost any sport. The KAM is sweat, rain, and splash resistant, but it is not waterproof. It is not intended to be worn swimming. 11

Syncing the KAM To keep your personal stats on your portal up to date, it is important to sync your KAM periodically. You must have internet access for the data to be uploaded to your personal portal. Syncing takes less than one minute. The KAM will store data for a set amount of days. When you have gone a set amount of time without syncing, the Please Sync will display on the screen. If you want to force a sync at any time, there is a Sync Now option on the PC or phone. 12

Battery Your KAM runs on a replaceable 3V coin battery, CR2032. With normal use, your KAM s battery should last approximately 6 months. A low battery indicator screen will appear on the KAM to let you know it is time to replace it. You should replace the battery immediately after seeing this indicator. Removing the battery 1 Remove your KAM from its packaging. Holding the device in one hand, slide the clip down to remove revealing the battery cover. 13

2 To unlock the battery cover, insert a coin (penny or dime) into the slot on the back of the unit, and turn the cover counter-clockwise. 3 Once the cover has been removed, insert the provided battery into the back of the unit, with the + sign facing up. Press the battery down into the center of the compartment. 14

4 Place the battery cover back onto the KAM and insert a coin back into the slot. IMPORTANT: First, slightly rotate the battery cover counter-clockwise until you feel a click and stop. This will get the threading into place. Listen for a click while turning counter-clockwise. Then, rotate the battery cover clockwise until it is tight. Slide the clip back on to reattach. 15

The Warranty The KAM battery has a one year limited warranty for functional and manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover water damage or device damage caused by loss, misuse, or carelessness. The warranty start date is the date the device is shipped to the end user. 16
