DMS 2 Ultrasonic Thickness Gague
DMS 2 is the clear choice to satisfy your thickness measurement needs The DMS 2 has retained the user preferred features of its predecessor, the popular DMS, and added expanded measurement capabilities to solve remaining wall thickness applications. All information (large thickness digits, A-Scan, B-Scan, and data files) is clearly displayed on a large high resolution (1/4 VGA) LCD screen that is easily read in direct sunlight. The DMS 2 is compact, easy-to-use, and like all Krautkramer D-Meters is built-to-last in a custom molded, gasket sealed, high-impact resistant housing with a rubber protective case to withstand use in harsh industrial environments. A-Scan, B-Scan or Big DIGITS You decide what you want to see! A-Scan waveform for verification of true remaining wall thickness and better judgements on equipment integrity B-Scan provides a graphical crosssectional view of the equipment being inspected. Very helpful in quickly identifying laminated or thinned areas Big Digits (.75 High) lets you take measurements and see results at a quick glance Big Digits view is selectable with either A-Scan (shown above) or data file information displayed Advanced Thickness Measurement No need to remove coatings (paint) - measure through coatings without including the coating layer in the digital thickness reading Stable high-temperature measurement up to 1000ºF with HT400A probe and armor jacketed cable MIN CAP captures the minimum thickness for a series of measurements and displays the associated A-Scan (32 Hz acquisition rate) DIALOG Intelligent Probes are automatically recognized for optimum instrument setup, performance, and documentation Automatic probe zero corrects for delay line dimensional changes (wear & growth) 8 Hz selection updates the display twice as fast as normal for immediate response and enhances test results when movement of the probe is necessary vs. spot testing SIP mode utilizes single-element probes for attenuative or thick materials Gain is readily adjustable in 1 db steps via a direct access key Freeze locks the A-Scan display for evaluation and verification of the echoes; makes time base parameter adjustments easy 4 band passes automatically optimize the receiver bandwidth to match the frequency of the probe for best results RF display provides additional waveform information to assist with difficult measurement applications (DMS 2 only)

to solve a wide range of corrosion/erosion applications Stable high temperature measurement The DMS 2 in combination with the HT 400A dual-element probe and armor jacketed cable provide stable measurement on equipment having surface temperatures up to 1000ºF (538ºC). Single-element high-temperature delay line probes are also compatible. Use of the MIN CAP mode in combination with FREEZE enables high temperature readings and A-Scans to be obtained quickly without lift-off effects from uncoupling. 4 ways to measure without removing expensive protective coatings for maximum flexibility TopCOAT, Dual-Multi, S-Peak and S-Flank modes for measuring through coatings (paint) without including the coating layer in the digital thickness reading. Measurements are made between two consecutive backwall echoes in all modes (except TopCOAT) and low amplitude coating layer echoes are ignored. (See back page for more information on TopCOAT.) Test materials with external pitting Small footprint dual-element probes are used to gain access to the bottom of surface pits to measure true minimum remaining wall thickness on corrosion prone equipment (i.e. piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, plates). Obtain stable thickness measurements on small diameter piping and tubing. Measure in areas of limited access. Find and capture thinnest reading during corrosion/erosion surveys The MIN CAP (MINimum CAPture) measurement mode finds and captures the minimum thickness reading in a sequence of measurements. Both the live and currently captured minimum thickness readings are displayed simultaneously. An adjustable time-out period (1 to 10 seconds) prevents a new min cap sequence from starting prematurely upon intermittent uncoupling. The DMS 2 works with DME, DM4 Family, and DMS dual & single element probes for maximum flexibility and applications versatility.
with new powerful expanded measurement capabilities and valuable options TopCOAT(Patent No. 6035717) is a new thickness measurement technique utilizing 2 channels (one channel measures the coating thickness and one measures the total thickness) that works like this: Measures the coating thickness Calculates the necessary coating layer correction Measures the total thickness of the coating layer and metal layer Deducts the calculated coating correction value Displays the correct (metal only) thickness Advantages of the TopCOAT measurement technique. 1. Measure through coatings (paint) without including the coating layer in the digital thickness reading. Thinner measurements are also possible than when using multiple echo techniques. 2. Allows normal high gain corrosion thickness measurement with maximum sensitivity to pitting. Measurement is made at high gain levels and from the initial pulse to the 1 st backwall reflection which is proven to be the most effective way to measure equipment having irregular backwall reflecting surfaces (i.e. eroded/corroded piping, tanks, pressure vessels ). 3. Measure the thickness of the coating (paint) layer itself. 4. If no coating is present, measure the thickness of materials from one side without knowing their sound velocity. Paint Coating Inside of pipe (showing corrosion) Coating Measurement Total Thickness Measurement The current velocity of the material under test is measured and set into the instrument. Thickness measurements are made without knowing the sound velocity of the material. Thickness of various materials can be measured without recalibration. B-Scan is a simple inspection method enabling the user to scan a part or area and produce a cross-sectional view. No probes switching, extra cables or fixtures needed; the DMS 2 B-Scan works with ANY TG Probe. Easy to use soft key controls enable the user to quickly configure the B-Scan parameters to produce the best graphical views possible. The DMS 2 goes further and allows the user to save the B- Scan within its internal memory (user can save up to 1,100 B-Scans) and later transfer the B-Scan to our UltraMATE software for storage to disk, analysis and printing.
