Created December 2008 This application note shows how to print guest checks to a TSP100 printer using ASI Restaurant Manager POS Software. TSP100 Supported Interfaces: USB, Powered USB, or LAN ASI Restaurant Manager Version 17.0 (http://www.rmpos.com) Star Micronics Tools Needed: TSP100 Configuration Utility (Included on Installation CD) TSP100 Configuration 1. Ensure the TSP100 is installed in your system by opening the Printers and Faxes folder. If the TSP100 is listed here, it has been successfully installed. After confirming this, close this folder. Also ensure a kitchen printer has already been configured and assigned in Restaurant Manager. * For instructions on how to install the TSP100, visit the FAQ section of http://www.starmicronics.com/ 2. Press the Windows Start button and navigate Programs > StarMicronics > Star TSP100 > Configuration Utility 3. Highlight ESC/POS Mode and click the OK Button.
4. In the left menu bar, click Serial Ports. 5. Click the Add Port Button.
6. Enter an available COM port and click the OK button. 7. Click the Start button. Then, click the dropdown box and set the service to Automatic. 8. Click on Apply Changes in the lower right hand corner. 9. Wait five seconds for the service to complete initiating. Then, highlight the COM port and click the Check Health button. If successful, a message will display stating Check Health Completed Successfully. The printer will also output a short test print. 10. Click Close in the lower right hand corner.
Restaurant Manager Configuration 1. Click the Windows Start button and navigate Programs > Restaurant Manager, Version 17.0 > Printer Spooler Setup 2. In the left hand column, highlight RECPT1. The right column displays properties pertaining to this printer. 2a. Enter the computer name. If the name is unknown, go to the desktop, right click My Computer, and select Properties. A tab named Computer Name shows the name. Copy and paste it into the Computer Name field. 2b. Select COM/LPT Printer as the Printer Type.
2c. Set the port to the COM port assigned in the TSP100 Configuration Utility. In this case, it is COM2. 2d. Ensure the Serial Port Settings are set as follows: Baud Rate: 9600 Data Bits: 8 Parity: None Stop Bits: 1 Handshaking: Hardware (CTS and DSR) 2e. Click the Apply button at the bottom of the window. Then, click the Exit button. 3. Click the Windows Start button and navigate Programs > Restaurant Manager, Version 17.0 > Printer Spooler
4. In the top left window labeled Printers, RECPT1 will be shown with the name of the COM port specified. Highlight it and click the Test button in the lower left corner. The printer will output a small test print. Minimize this window. Very Important: Do not close the Printer Spooler program. Restaurant Manager requires it to be running in order to communicate with any printers. 5. Click the Windows Start button and navigate Programs > Restaurant Manager, Version 17.0 > RM Backoffice 6. Enter the password.
7. Click Setup and select Station Configuration. 8. In the left menu bar, select the station to configure the printer for.
9. In the right box, scroll down to the POS Printers section. Expand POS Printer Port and Model Selections. Expand Receipt/Check. Ensure the following settings are reflected: Primary Device: #RECPT1 Printer Type: Star SP300/312, DP8340 10. Expand Credit Card Receipt. Ensure the following settings are reflected: Primary Device: #RECPT1 Printer Type: Star SP300/312, DP8340
11. If no Prep Area or kitchen printers are currently defined, scroll up to Prep Area Devices. Expand to see a list of 8 kitchen printers. Set each printer to reflect these settings: Primary Device: #RECPT1 Printer Type: Star SP300/312, DP8340 12. Click OK in the lower right hand corner. 13. To print a sample receipt, click the Windows Start button and navigate Programs > Restaurant Manager, Version 17.0 > Point of Sale 14. Select any table number.
15. Select any server name. 16. Select any customer number.
17. Click on any items to add to the check. 18. Click the Send icon in the lower right hand corner. 19. Click the Print icon. The TSP100 will print the receipt and is now configured to print guest checks from ASI Restaurant Manager.
