EU-wide real-time travel information 2. Collection and provision of road data 3. Accurate public data for digital maps 4. Free minimum traffic information services 5. Promotion of multi-modal journey planners 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 4
Accurate public data for digital maps Action 1.3 Rationale. and aims of the action/study Accurate public data: key element of ITS deployment and substantial element to guarantee availability of intelligent digital maps (-> in-car navigation devices, travel planners,. management applications, ADAS etc) The problem: Uneven and often missing availability, accuracy and reliability of European road data for digital maps and. missing rules for their timely update in digital maps. Main challenge: to ensure a safe and easy access to digital road databases owned and maintained by thousands of road authorities in a standardised, non-discriminatory and transparent way. 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 5 Accurate public data for digital maps Action 1.3.obvious lack of interoperability and horizontal integration in Europe.number of projects addressing this issue: esafety Working Group on Digital Maps, EuroRoadS, ROSATTE and parts of INSPIRE are the most important..most important stakeholders: National, regional or local road and public transport authorities (road owners), Private road operators (road owners), Commercial and public traffic and road data/information provider, Digital map providers, National mapping agencies, European institutions etc. 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 6
Accurate public data for digital maps Action 1.3 Specific objectives.identify common minimum requirements of road data for use in digital maps in the EU..Define procedures for ensuring a fair, simple and transparent access of digital map providers to these road data, identify common minimum requirements regarding timely update of the digital maps by the digital map providers..estimate the technical and standardisation needs. 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 7 Key Questions for the Study } What is the state-of-the-art concerning the practice of road data collection for digital maps in the Member States across the EU, which quality requirements exist related to public road data for digital maps in the Member States and their update and to which level are they applied in practice? } What rules, procedures and methods are applied by digital map providers related to the timely updating of their digital maps? } Which rules and procedures exist in the Member States for ensuring the availability of accurate public road data which are used in digital maps? } How could a future system look like, ensuring the timely dissemination of the road data for digital maps updates? 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 8
ITS Action Plan: Further Activities.Toolkit for decision-makers: www.2decide.eu.european Electronic Toll Service: mid-term review. Urban ITS Expert group.ecall: specifications.standardisation mandate for cooperative systems.new studies on vulnerable road users, continuity of services, guidelines for public funding of ITS.etc 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 9 Workshop Agenda.Aim for the day:» review first step of the study: state of the art results» discuss the challenges and solutions and the role of possible EC action.morning: three presentations on the mapping requirements and need for public road data.afternoon: presentation on on-going study, three presentations of Road and Mapping authorities, presentation on INSPIRE Framework..Time for discussion > please make use of it! 29 March 2011 Workshop Access to public data for digital road maps 10
