Welcome to the Q4 Edition of the API Newsletter. This newsletter is being presented as an information tool to present new product information. If there are any questions regarding any products or services published in this newsletter, please contact Associated Professionals, Inc. (API) at (618) 478-9000 or e- mail apinews@apisurvey.com. Thank You. Trimble SCS900 Site Controller Software Current Version 2.21 (now available) SCS900 has improved tremendously over the past releases. Listed are some improvements since version 2. Site calibration improvements for GPS operations You can now specify at what number of points the calibration will utilize a tilted plane in best fitting the measured points to the provided control points. You can now manage the observation residuals to improve the calibration result. When SCS900 completes the calibration measurements, you can choose to edit the calibration components. Horizontal and vertical components of all points used in the site calibration can be reviewed, and the SCS900 computation can be overridden by eliminating or adding back in measured components of the calibrated points. In addition to the computed scale factor, SCS900 now shows the slope magnitude of the tilted plane in the North and East axes, as computed by the calibration process. During the calibration process, you can now move the base station to a point that has already been measured in the calibration. Moving the base in midcalibration allows large sites to be calibrated where radio range does not allow the complete site to be covered from a single base station location. Be aware that moving the base will introduce additional errors into the calibration residuals, so move the base only when it is absolutely necessary. Calibrations can now be resumed or restarted on a site provided that no data has been measured or staked out. Once a point has been measured or staked, the calibration is frozen for that site. On starting a new site, when you copy a.dc calibration file from another site, the calibration is copied and reopened, allowing it to be extended within the new site. For example, the site calibration for a site named Zone 1 can be copied to a nearby site named Zone 2 and then extended to use the control within the Zone 2 site. Mirage Hotel Las Vegas, NV November 5-7 Register at: www.trimbleevents.com/dimens ions07 Check out our website! Visit our website to see all the new and exciting changes. User Account: You will now be able to create your own user account. After creating the account you will be given access to the jobs that you request and if needed, you can submit service repair requests. Used Equipment: Also on the web we have posted used equipment that is for sale. Firmware/Software Updates: You can now view the most recent firmware and software right from API s Training: API will have winter training in Early 2008! Watch the API Calendar on the website for upcoming dates! Stakeout line changes After taping the reference line to be staked, the following dialog box (pictured at right) appears. There are up to five ways to determine how to stake the elevation. If you select a 3D reference line, and if the current design contains a DTM or roadway surface, all five options are available. Check out the Trimble Knowledge Network and see what online training courses you would be interested in taking. Contact your API sales rep for more information. Call API toll free (888) 327-0078

Page 2 Graphical station and offset specification When staking a line, a side slope as projected from a line, a roadway feature, or a roadway side slope, you can now establish the station value at which the stake is to be placed by graphically tapping on the screen at the desired point along the related line or roadway alignment. Volume & COGO menu changes Surface-to-surface volume calculations now provide total cut and total fill volumes in addition to the previous net cut/fill balance only. The volume calculations now use the Terramodel computation engine and give identical results to those provided by the Terramodel Field Data Module. Stakeout menu changes The following changes have been made to the Point option in the Stakeout menu: Points can be created during stakeout using a free point pick. Once selected, the point can be left as a 2D point or set to 3D. You can manually enter the elevation for the point, extract the elevation for the point from the current design surface, or extract the elevation from another 3D point. You can create points by using an offset from another point. SCS900 Road Module (Please call to check on availability) SCS900 Road Module has been available since version 2.0. It offers a user-friendly graphical interface for roadway layout. Terramodel PRO file used as a design on the collector Adds plan and cross section view for measurement and stakeout operations Adds full road geometry capability Adds station equations for major highways Adds complex template based roads including superelevation and widening Adds ability to handle multiple road job projects for major highways with small footprint databases Stakeout Roadway feature Stakeout Catch Points Stakeout / Location on surface Can stake with lateral offsets and vertical offsets Actual feature elevation Near side projection (project slope of pavement) Near and far side projection SCS900 Tablet Edition Full SCS900 functionality in a larger screen! A vehicle mount bracket for the Samsung Q1 Ultra-Mobile PC is available. The bracket can be permanently mounted in a vehicle, or temporarily fixed using a windscreen suction cup mount. A pop-up keyboard is provided with the SCS900 Tablet Edition to enable convenient data entry. The keyboard automatically appears when data entry is required. Currently the Samsung Q1 and Panasonic Toughbook are the only Trimble supported devices for SCS900 Tablet Edition. Samsung Q1 Panasonic Toughbook
