4/92 Page 1 of 8 Radiamatic Detectors and Accessories Specification Function The Radiamatic temperature detector generates an emf proportional to the temperature of the object sighted. It is used with potentiometric instruments to record, indicate or control the temperature. Description Metal case with corrosion resistant finish. Gasketed metal cover shields terminals from dust and contaminants (on all models except Miniature). Rigid binding posts connect 12 ga. or smaller copper lead wires to instrument. Mounting attachments available to provide easy means of mounting unit. Available in five models: General Purpose, High Speed, Small Target, Low Range and Miniature. When selecting the Radiamatic detector best suited for an application it is necessary to consider: 1. Target temperature and the temperature of surrounding objects. 2. Target size. 3. Target distance from detector lens. 4. Target emittance and reflectance. 5. Type of enclosure the heated object is in and, if in the open, the percentage of heat emitted in such an application. 6. Sighting path taking into consideration any vapors or gases. 7. Sighting angle if a non-blackbody application. Lens Lens materials are Pyrex, fused silica and calcium fluoride. Threaded flanges at the lens and on the optical diaphragm inside the housing prevent reflections and marginal rays from reaching the thermopile. Lenses withstand external pressures of 10 psi. A wide variety of lens angles are available. Thermopile The thermopile is a radial assembly of minute thermocouples wired in series. Radiant energy is focused directly on the thermocouple hot junctions for highest sensitivity. The portion of the thermopile that is exposed to the radiant source is blackened to increase absorption of energy. Page 6 Radiamatic Accessories These accessories are standard units for use with open or closed ceramic or metal tubes and are all of gas-tight construction for use around explosive or combustible atmospheres, or in processes under pressure. All accessories have fully machined surfaces and are supplied with metallic gaskets. Male and female flange designs assure positive alignment. Fittings with machined seats are used for attachment to other accessories, or for attachment directly to threaded tube and flange assemblies. All such fittings are furnished with bolts for attaching to adjacent fitting and copper gasket for gas tightness Fittings with a spherical seat should be used only next to a silicon carbide tube and clamp assembly (Part No. 30075800- or 30075801 ). All other accessory fittings are joined by flat (or machined) seats. All piping and conduit connections have 1/2- inch standard pipe thread. Support Fitting and Pipe Clamp Consists of a flange with an extension lug which attaches to the adjustable clamp. Supports the Radiamatic unit and accessories and/or connects a ceramic tube and the Radiamatic unit. Easily attached to pipe stand, furnace tie rod, etc. Specify: No. 30075804, with flat seats or No. 30075698, with one spherical and one flat seat. A 1-1/4 inch adjustable pipe clamp is included with each unit. Part No. 30075698 939-55 Air-Cooled Fitting A tubular extension having cooling fins on the outside and baffles inside. Cooling by convection, or purging, or both. Purging with either air or a suitable gas which is deflected away from the lens. A 1/2-inch standard pipe thread is for connection to purge lines. Specify: No. 30075696, with flat seats; No. 30075694, with one spherical and one flat seat. Part No. 30075696 939-66 Water-Cooled Fitting Used only in combination with the aircooled fitting and/or safety shutter interposed between it and the Radiamatic unit. This is essentially a water-cooled flange. Two 1/2-inch standard pipe size connections for attachment to water supply and drain lines. Specify: No. 30075697, with flat seats; No. 30075695, with one spherical and one flat seat. Part No. 30075695 939-71 Vertical Roof Support Consists of two cast flanges attached to each other by three tie rods. Both flanges have holes cast through their center to accommodate the sighting or target tube. Specify: No. 30075713. Part No. 30075713 939-62

Page 7 Radiamatic Accessories Safety Shutter A fully automatic device to protect lens against flame impingement. Consists of pressure-tight housing containing a spring shutter held out of line of sight by a fusible link. If damaging flame conditions develop, the fusible link melts and shutter closes. A manually operated gate between the Mounting Accessories for Miniature Radiamatic Unit Plate Adaptor Steel ring which attaches directly to shoulder of housing. Adaptor permits the use of Support Fitting 30075804 for supporting Miniature Head and for attaching standard Honeywell accessories. Specify: No. 30363751. automatic gate and furnace is normally held out of the line of sight. When automatic safety shutter closes, normal operations can be resumed by: (A) closing the manual gate; (B) replacing burned-out fuse; (C) re-opening manual gate. Specify: No. 30075745. Support Handle Aluminum mounting bracket with flange which attaches directly to shoulder of housing. Requires no Adaptor. Support Handle is used like Support Fitting 30075804. Has extension 1/2-inch diameter lug and can be mounted in standard laboratory-type clamps. Specify: No. 30363752. Auxiliary Sighting Lens Lens is in focus with thermopile and provides a convenient means of inspecting the image of both thermopile and target. Inspection is made by raising metal cover outside of terminal compartment. When lens is not being used, a self-closing cover keeps radiant energy from reaching thermopile from the rear. To order Rear Sighting Lens for General Purpose, High Speed and Small Target Models, select model number from Table on page 5. Metal Tubes Heat and corrosion-resistant alloy tubes and mounting flanges with closed end (target tube) or open end (sighting tube) when measured temperatures do not exceed 1150 C (2100 F). Eight standard lengths. See Table below. All metal tubes have machined and threaded flanges to insure correct alignment. Inconel Sighting and Target Tubes Part Number Length I.D. O.D. Sillramic is a closegrained vitrified refractory material which is highly resistant to both thermal shock and penetration by furnace gases up to 1595 C (2900 F) for vertical or supported installations, 1480 C (2700 F) for unsupported installations. The extension tube is a separate assembly consisting of a threaded extension tube and a mounting flange. The target tube is a separately replaceable assembly comprised of a Sillramic tube cemented in a threaded metal ferrule. Maximum distance from Radiamatic lens to the target must not exceed 760 mm (30 ). Closed End Sillramic Target Tubes with Threaded Metal Ferrule Part Length I.D. O.D.
