EUROPEAN COMMISSION EUROSTAT Directorate G :Global Business Statistics Unit G-2: Structural business statistics and global value chains MEETING OF THE BUSINESS DEMOGRAPHY WORKING GROUP 18 MAY 2015 BECH building, room: Quetelet L-2920 Luxembourg - Kirchberg Starting: 18 May at 9:30 Ending: 18 May at 16:30 DOC. 6/EN/EUROSTAT/G2/BD/MAY2015 Annex VI BD - High Growth Enterprises (series 9N voluntary data collection) Summary of deliverables and transmission format 2015 Status-final Please note that for environmental purposes extra copies of the documents listed on the agenda will no longer be available in the meeting room, unless they were not made available two weeks before the meeting. Delegates are invited to bring with them the copies they received through CIRCA 1 1 Website: https:// https://circabc.europa.eu/w/browse/d81f1110-472d-4aa4-8637-b3534c5f6193

Business Demography Data Transmission Format version: 2015 Voluntary data collection on high growth enterprises Record and Dataset Structure This record structure is based on that used for structural business statistics, as set out in Commission Regulation 250/2009. Records are made up of fields of variable length separated by semi-colons (;). The semi-colon defines where one field ends and the next one starts, therefore it is not necessary to include a semicolon after the final 24 th field (footnote). This field should be followed by a hard return character, so that when the file is viewed, each record appears on a separate line. The file should be transmitted in.csv format. Square data sets should be provided. In other words records should be provided for each combination of activity and size class at EVERY level of both of the classifications. All records where there is simply no activity for the size class concerned should be sent with a value set to 0 (zero). Any records for which data are not available should nevertheless be provided with the value coded appropriately as missing (coded with the letters na ). It is important to distinguish between real zeros and missing values, as no aggregates can be calculated with missing data. All totals should be transmitted. Please submit one file for the series 9N. NACE activities have to be determined as they are in the reporting year, i.e. data collected in year 2014 refers to reference year 2012; reported NACE activities are as determined in 2012. No size class and legal breakdowns are required. Datasets should be transmitted only by edamis. The dataset code is SBSBD_9N1_A (data) SBSBD_DREPORT_A (validation reports zipped in one file) NEW for data collection 2015! In edamis the data set ID SBSBD_DREPORT_A has been created for sending the validation reports. That includes the reports created by EDIT (working partially and fully applicable at Nace section level only) or by countries own validation tool. Transmission deadline: 31 August 2015 Specifications on the following pages Deliverables page 2 Field descriptions page 3 Code lists page 4 Hypothetical example records page 10 1

Deliverables Variable Label Reference population 11951 Number of high growth enterprises measured in turnover 11952 Number of gazelles (young high-growth enterprises) measured in employment 11953 Number of gazelles (young high-growth enterprises) measured in turnover N 10 10 excluding R 10 10 Ref. FIELD DESCRIPTIONS The fields required are all alpha-numeric, i.e. they should not contain separators or decimal points. They should be transmitted in the following order: Field Expected maximum length Values 1 Series 2 9N Data collection with breakdown by NACE activity 2 Year 4 Reference Year (e.g. 2010). 3 Territorial unit 2 Two letter country code (see list A). 4 Employee size class 2 Two digit code (see list B). 5 Economic activity 1-13 NACE Rev. 2 code without punctuation (see list C ). 6 Variable 5 Variable code (see list D). 7 Data value 12 Data value as a whole number (i.e. no decimal places). Zero values should be present and indicated as 0. No values should be blank. Missing data are to be coded as na. 8 Quality flag 1 One digit code (see list E). 9 Confidentiality flag 10 Dominance/share largest unit 11 Share second largest unit 12 Unit of data value 13 Breakdown of products 14 Turnover size class 15 Breakdown by environmental domains 16 Geographical breakdown 17 Residence of parent enterprise 1 One digit code (see list F). 3 A numeric value less than or equal to 100. This indicates the percentage dominance of one or two enterprises which dominate the data and make it confidential. The value is rounded to the nearest whole number: e.g. 90.3 becomes 90, 94.50 becomes 95. This field is only used when the confidentiality flags B, C or F are used in the previous field. When flag C is used in field 9 the data provider may use this field to provide either the dominance percentage of the two largest enterprises or the share of the largest enterprise. In the latter case, field 11 should be provided as well. 3 A numeric value less than or equal to 100. This field is empty for nonconfidential data and confidential data with flags A and D in field 9, this field should include the share of the second largest enterprise when flag F is used in field 9. If flags B and C are used in field 9, this field is optional. 4 Use value UNIT. 18 Legal form 2 Two digit code (see list G). 19 Type of insurance enterprise or insurance business (see list below) 20 Category 21 Currency breakdown 22 Residence of client 23 Population 3 Letter code followed by last two digits of the base year (see list H) use is optional. 24 Footnote 0-250 Free note on the data that can be published as methodological notes/additional explanations for better understanding the provided data. 3
