What is the standard protocol for Ethernet? Explain what a Switch is and how it is superior to a Bridge. Describe Fragment-Free switching, and why it is better than store-and-forward and cut-through switching techniques. 2. Based on the figure below, do the following: Find the spanning tree for the system if B1 is the root bridge. State all the blocked ports. What happens when bridge B1 fails? (9/100) 3. Answer the following questions on Cellular Networks: With the aid of a suitable mathematical formula, discuss the trade-off between frequency and distance in relation to path loss in wireless environments. Describe what frequency reuse is and draw a frequency reuse pattern of 4 cell cluster. For any channel in the cluster, show the interfering co-channels from other clusters....3/-

- 3 - Given an FDMA system with a bandwidth of 25MHz, each user requires 30 KHz for voice communication. A total number of 32 cells are deployed with a radius of 1.5 km and re-use factor of N = 4. Determine the total geographical area covered by the system and the total number of simultaneous users that can be handled. If only a single cell is used for the system, what is the re-use factor and the total number of users that can be supported? (18/100) 4. Answer the following questions on IPv4: Refer to the figure above. The datagram must pass through a link and the MTU is set at 1200 bytes. Show how a router fragments the datagram indicating the values of the total length, offset and fragmentation bit (D or M). An organization is given an IP address block of 130.34.12.128/27. The organization must have 3 different subnets. (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) What are the number of subnet bits and host bits? How many of hosts are available per subnet? What are the ranges of addresses for each subnet? What is the new subnet mask value? If the number of subnets is increased to 12, what are the host addresses for subnet 1 (first subnet)? - 4-5. Answer the following questions on IPv6: Given a host with the MAC address of 09-13-2B-72-BC-4E. Show the IPv6 linklocal address of this host using EUI-64 interface identifier. Explain using suitable diagram(s), the steps in Mobile IPv6 when a mobile terminal moves from one subnet connected to a Wi-Fi network to another connected to a 3G network. What type of handover and mobility is associated with the action mentioned above? (19/100) 6. Answer the following questions on transport layer: (d) Explain what congestion control is and why congestion occurs? In a connection, a host has sent TCP bytes from byte number 95 to byte number 105 that are not acknowledged. The current value of the congestion window is 17 and receiver window is 25. Explain with the aid of a suitable diagram, how many more bytes the host can send without concerns for acknowledgments? What is the maximum buffer size of the receiver if it has already received 50 bytes of data, unprocessed? State two (2) available congestion control mechanisms to control the congestion and keep load under control....5/-

Jawab soalan yang berikut berdasarkan Ethernet dan L2: Lukis struktur sebuah bingkai Ethernet dengan menunjukkan semua bidangbidang dan saiz, panjang minima dan maxima bingkai. Apakah protokol standard bagi Ethernet? Jelaskan apa itu sebuah Suis dan bagaimana ianya lebih baik dari sebuah Jambatan. Terangkan pensuisan Fragmen Bebas dan bagaimana ianya lebih baik dari teknik pensuisan store-and-forward dan cut-through. 2. Berdasarkan gambar rajah di bawah, jawab soalan-soalan berikut: Cari pepohon rentang (spanning tree) bagi sistem sekiranya B1 bertindak sebagai titi akar (root bridge). Tunjukkan port-port yang perlu ditutup. Apakah yang akan berlaku bila Jambatan B1 gagal? (9/100) 3. Jawab soalan-soalan yang berikut berkenaan dengan Rangkaian Selular: Dengan bantuan formula matematik yang sesuai, bincangkan keseimbangan antara frekuensi dan jarak yang berkaitan dengan kehilangan jalan dalam persekitaran tanpa wayar. Jelaskan apa itu penggunaan semula frekuensi, dan lukis corak penggunaan semula untuk 4 sel kluster. Bagi mana-mana saluran dalam kluster, tunjuk pengganggu saluran bersama dari kluster lain....6/-

- 6 - Diberi sistem FDMA dengan lebar jalur 25MHz, setiap pengguna memerlukan 30 KHz untuk komunikasi suara. Seramai 32 sel dikerahkan dengan jarak jejari 1.5 km dan penggunaan semula faktor N = 4. Tentukan keluasan keseluruhan kawasan geografi yang diliputi oleh sistem dan jumlah bilangan pengguna serentak yang boleh dikendalikan. Jika hanya satu sel yang digunakan untuk sistem, apakah faktor penggunaan semula dan jumlah pengguna yang boleh disokong? (18/100) 4. Jawab soalan-soalan yang berikut berkenaan dengan IPv4: Rujuk kepada gambar rajah di atas. Datagram tersebut mesti melalui satu pautan dan MTU telah ditetapkan pada 1200 bait. Tunjuk bagaimana sebuah router menyerpih datagram tersebut dengan menunjukkan semua nilai-nilai panjang keseluruhan, offset dan bit serpihan (D or M). Jelaskan dengan menggunakan gambar rajah yang sesuai, langkah-langkah dalam IPv6 mudah alih tercapai apabila sebuah terminal bergerak dari satu subrangkaian yang terhubung dengan satu rangkaian Wi-Fi, ke sub-rangkaian lain yang terhubung dengan rangkaian 3G.
