PRODUCT & TECHNICAL SUPPORT BULLETIN Business Products Group DATE: 12/13/01 TO: All Minolta Digital Copier Dealers FROM: Service Support SUBJECT: SCANNING SETUP AND PROCEDURES FOR THE MINOLTA Pi5501 REF. NO.: 3453 Pi5501: 005 SCOPE AND PURPOSE: This paper is intended to help technicians and salespersons learn how to use and setup the scanning features of the Minolta Pi5501. We have used a showroom demonstration setup scenario. It would be impossible to cover all variations and no attempt is made to do so. We have used PageScope Cabinet as our FTP server, ArGoSoft for the SMTP mail server and Outlook Express for the POP3 mail client. We have used this software because of its ease of use, availability and no cost to you. Feel free to use any FTP, SMTP servers and any POP3 client you want. The Scan to E-mail and the e-mail portion of Scan to URL features are intended for use in an Intranet environment. This means a local SMTP mail server must be available. If Scan to E-Mail is intended for Internet destinations the local SMTP server must have Internet forwarding capability. The setup scenario and software used in this write-up is typically not usable for end user installations. The sole purpose of this write-up is to allow technicians and salespersons to become familiar with the setup and implementation of this equipment. It is not intended to replace manuals available from Minolta Corporation or any documentation shipped with the equipment. REQUIREMENTS 1. A working knowledge of Windows, Windows printing and basic networking is essential. 2. The Pi5501 should be installed and functioning properly. 3. The Pi5501 is connected to a local area network and the controller is accessible from PageScope Light, using TCP/IP. 4. From PageScope Light ensure the Pi5501 has the additional 128MB memory installed. This is shown as Printer Memory on the System page. 5. From the copier's service mode ensure the copier memory is 64MB and the Flash ROM versions are current. 6. An FTP Pi5501 should have the latest firmware versions including patches. 7. An FTP site must be available for FTP scanning. For the purpose of this paper we will use the FTP services in PageScope Cabinet. Note that Windows NT 4.0 Server and Windows 2000 Server have built in FTP services. If PageScope cabinet's FTP service is used, Windows (Win2k and 4.0 Server) FTP service must be stopped. 8. A local (Intranet) SMTP mail server must be available for scan to E-mail. For the purpose of this paper we will use Argosoft mail server (available as freeware from Argosoft.com). 9. You must have a POP3 mail client for retrieving E-mail. For the purpose of this paper we will use Outlook Express, which ships with Windows. Minolta Corporation, 101 Williams Drive, Ramsey, NJ 07446-1293 (201) 825-4000

Page 2 of 5 REF. NO.: 3453 SCAN TO FTP PageScope Cabinet FTP Setup 1. Using Windows Explorer, create a folder for the FTP Root Folder. Folders can be named anything you want and be on any drive. We have called ours "ftp". Example: "c:\ftp". 2. Create a folder under the ftp folder. We have called ours "default1". This is the folder that will receive the scanned documents. Our example folder structure now looks like this: "c:\ftp\default1". 3. Install PageScope Cabinet version 1.5 or later. 4. Launch PageScope Cabinet 5. In PageScope Cabinet go to Tool->Setup. Under Location setting for the folders click the drop down. Select FTP Root Folder. Go to Location->Browse. Select the FTP Root folder you setup in step 2. Example "c:\ftp" 6. Select OK 7. Go to Tools->Ftp. 8. Make sure Launch FTP is checked. 9. Set the FTP Control Port to 21. 10. Confirm the FTP Data Transfer Port setting. It should be 1098. 11. For FTP user enter "anonymous" Note: PageScope Cabinet only allows one user to be entered. Other FTP servers allow multiple users with more stringent security. We have used the traditional "anonymous" user. 12. Make sure the FTP Password is left blank. Note: We have left the password blank since an "anonymous" user traditionally has no password. 13. Note: PageScope Cabinet must be running for the FTP server to be running. PageScope Light Setup: 1. Start PageScope Light 2. Enter the Admin Password (default is "sysadm") then click Log-In. 3. Click the Scanner tab at the top center of the page. 4. Select File Destinations. 5. Click on one of the available file destination list numbers (actually click on the number 0 through 4). 6. This is where the scanned images will be sent. Example: default1 NOTE: The case of the folder entered here must match the case used when you created the folder. 10. Make sure Use Proxy is not checked. 11. Make sure Port Number" is set to 21. 12. If you entered anonymous as your user name in step 11 select the Anonymous box. Otherwise enter the name and password entered in steps 11 and 12. 13. Under Scanning Mode select the desired compression. 14. Click on the Apply button. 15. Select Log-out 16.
