Name Usage Our Name The full name of our organization - James A. Rhodes State College - should only be used in formal business and legal communications. For all other purposes, use Rhodes State College or Rhodes State. The abbreviation RSC may be used after the first mention of Rhodes State College in most communications, but no promotional items. 3
Logo Usage Logo Usage Rhodes State College has one logo that is used in communication. For marketing and promotional purposes, the Rhodes State College logo is used without James A. For legal communication, the James A. Rhodes State College version is used. Our logo should appear on all marketing and advertising materials. The relationship of the elements (type and graphics) should never be altered in any way. While use of the two color logo is recommended, one color options (solid black, solid white) are also acceptable. In the case of apparel items only, any solid color from the color palette may be used, providing there is a suitable amount of contrast between the logo color and the background color. The logos can be accessed from www.rhodesstate.edu/marketing. Marketing & Promotional Use Legal Use Isolation/Clear Space and Size When deciding how large or small to use our logo, please keep the following in mind: Area of Isolation/Clear Space This refers to the open or clear space surrounding the logo. It is necessary to maintain the mark s integrity and ensure that it is not crowded by other, potentially distracting elements. In the following diagrams, the Area of Isolation is defined as X - the overall height of the logo s letter R. This visual demonstrates the logo s Area of Isolation. Regardless of logo size, it is determined by using the overall height of the logo s letter R. X = 4
Logo Usage Minimum Allowable Size This is the smallest size at which the logo can be reproduced and maintain legibility and optimal color registration. The minimum allowable logo size is.375 as directed by the overall height of the logo. In the special case of printing on promotional items, such as pens, where a smaller logo is necessary, please be sure to get permission from College Relations at extension 5975. The overall height of the logo should be measured from the top of the O to the deepest point of the logo s graphic stroke. Example of Incorrect Usage To better understand how to properly use our logo, it helps to see it in incorrect application. The following is an example of a common usage error: DO NOT distort or manipulate the logo by slanting, stretching, twisting, curving, etc. 5
College Seal Rhodes State College Seal The official College seal is the formal identifier for the College and as such is reserved for formal documents and use through the office of the President. The use of the seal is limited. In general, the use of the College logo is preferred. The seal is not used in print advertising. Generally, the official seal is printed in black, blue or, in limited application, gold (see acceptable uses below). Except for special print techniques, these are the only colors, which may be used to print the seal. Special Printing Techniques The seal may be embossed, engraved, foil stamped on paper, etched in metal or glass, cast in metal, or carved in stone or wood. Some of these special printing (and fabrication) techniques may produce colors other than our official colors. However, these colors should be the result of the needs of the technique and they should be natural, neutral and compatible with the official identity palette colors. DO NOT attempt to recreate the college seal. To access the digital seal, please contact College Relations at extension 5975. 6
Color Palette The Full Color Palette Rhodes State College has two school colors - blue and white. In addition, a palette of core colors and secondary colors has been developed and defined for Rhodes State College. Consistent use of these colors will contribute to the cohesive and harmonious look of the Rhodes State brand identity across different media. The full color palette centers around the College s core colors (PMS 300, PMS 2915, PMS 583, PMS 138, and Black). The secondary palette of warm, inviting hues was carefully selected to not only complement the core, but also because it works in multiple applications while expressing positive emotion. Secondary colors must be in conjunction with core colors and not independently. This color chart indicates color for use in print and online applications. Please call College Relations at extension 5975 with questions regarding color use across other media (apparel, environmental branding, etc.) 7

A step-by-step guide is available on the Marketing website at www.rhodesstate.edu/marketing. Use plain text so that the signature is compatible with all e-mail clients and devices. Avoid colors, special fonts, bold, italics, and graphics. Use a simple 10-point standard font (preferred) or your e-mail default font. Non-standard typefaces and HTML may not translate well across e-mail clients.
