How the evolution of mobile connectivity will support Sustainable Smart Cities Barbara Pareglio GSMA Connected Living Programme November 2016

Smart Cities: Benefits & Opportunities BENEFITS Economic growth Quality of life Sustainability Source: Machina Research 2

Smart Cities: Challenges Many cities were built on infrastructure that was designed for a population far smaller and far less active than they have today. 3

Smart City Applications City services can be linked by common infrastructure, data sets and technologies. Mobile operators are able to focus on the infrastructure needed to deliver the whole, or focus on individual services to ensure smart cities roll out in the required way. 4

What Mobile Operator can provide Optimised communications networks Remote asset management licenced spectrum, with several capabilities including low power wide area technologies Embedded SIM & remote provisioning Local service development and deployments Big data management Robust security Service & citizen authentication and identification In-depth local planning Managing huge data volumes daily Strong privacy guidelines GSMA guidelines ensure compliance Strong and secure authentication (SIM) Mobile Connect secure authentication 5

How does GSMA help Mobile IoT Accelerate availability of standard LPWA solutions in licensed spectrum (EC-GSM-IoT, LTE M, NB-IoT) Remote SIM Provisioning Allow for an increase of connected services and lower cost of connected products IoT Big Data Harmonised data sets from multiple sources available to developers and third parties through common APIs. IoT Security Help IoT Ecosystem providers to protect themselves from cybersecurity threats (Guidelines) Mobile Connect Mobile Connect is a convenient and secure universal log-in solution with privacy protection. IoT Business Enablers Enable operators to capture the Internet of Things opportunity, by fostering relevant, flexible and technology-neutral policies and regulation

Mobile IoT: 3GPP standard technology for LPWA 11 Mobile IoT Pilot Showcases at MWC 2017 Commercial availability in 2017 Mobile IoT refers to 3GPP standardized secure operator managed IoT Networks, in particular low power wide area network Healthy ecosystem infrastructure vendors: Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, Samsung, ZTE Chipset: Intel, Qualcomm, Sequans, Altair Semiconductors, HiSilicon, Neul, Mediatek. Module: Gemalto, Sierra Wireless, Quectel, telit, u-blox, WNC Choice of Technologies LTE M NB-IoT EC-GSM-IoT Key Features Low Cost Module Better Coverage Long Battery Life Low data needs 2-ways communication Key Benefits 3GPP Standards Global Coverage Secure Scalable

Transport: Shanghai Smart Parking NB-IoT Pilot with China Unicom Covering 300 spaces in Shanghai International Tourism & Resorts Zone parking lot Linked to Smart Parking app and control centre, offering end-to-end service 9

Environmental Tainan Flood Control Atlanta Chattahoochee River Tainan is the cultural capital of Taiwan and a large tourist destination. The city sits in a zone prone to typhoons, and suffers from regular flooding Tainan has been working with local operator Far EasTone to put new flood control measures in place. New flood control centre, 4G connected pumping stations, flood monitoring and distributed back-up The river supplies 70% of Atlanta s population with drinking water The Chattahoochee River Keeper takes regular samples to ensure the river water is safe for human contact AT&T and Ericsson have developed low cost LTE CAT1 IoT sensors to measure water quality LTE CAT1 based sensors offer long battery life and an increased sampling rate, meaning improved safety standards 10

Utilities: Las Vegas Leakage Detection Las Vegas Valley Water District supplies 7.5m gallons water per day to the city Aging infrastructure installed in the 50s and 60s is prone to leakage Small leaks eventually create sinkholes, which costs the city millions of dollars Critical pipelines are now monitored by permanent acoustic sensors, searching for leaks AT&T provide data analysis and local communications technology Leaks are detected faster and can be fixed before major problems occur 11

Safety: Sagrada Familia Barcelona Sagrada Familia is Barcelona s most popular tourist attraction It attracts over 3,000,000 visitors per year Barcelona is turning itself into a Smart Tourist Destination The city is looking at how IoT, Big Data solutions, and mobile solutions for travellers can help them manage the volume of visitors they receive whilst providing a good experience. 12

Conclusion: How Mobile Operators enable Smart Cities 1. Mobile operators have a long track record of building and supporting commercially viable, scalable services for a wide variety of consumers and vertical markets. 2. Mobile operators are often already engaged with local and national governments. 3. Mobile operators can help city leader understand the technical capabilities and help build a realistic set of objectives, programmes and KPIs. 4. Mobile operators understands that the success of smart cities services is reliant on the use of standards. 5. Mobile operators are able to work with smart cities for stimulating innovation in the wider ecosystem, for example, through start-up and developer programmes. 6. Mobile operators already have a relation with the citizens and the penetration of mobile is significantly high in cities. 13
