Certification Corner We are well into the 2017 year with a number of certification schools already provided for individual agencies and Traffic Signals Technician Level 1 and Traffic Signals Field Technician Level 2 schools scheduled in late April/Early May. Unfortunately, we were unable to provide a Signs and Markings School this spring because the material has been completely overhauled and there is some content that is not applicable in B.C. so the roll out is being delayed until this is resolved. We hope to be able to run the Level 1 in the Fall. Note that the Level 2 is now split into a Signs program and a Pavement Markings program be sure to choose the appropriate school! The IMSA International office is continuing to improve the services it offers online. It has recently added the ability to lookup your IMSA ID number and to update your contact information and communication preferences directly. The link http://www.imsasafety.org/member will allow you to create the new secure login required to access the new services. A confirmation email will be sent to the email address on file with the International office. If you do not receive the email, contact membership@imsasafety.org with your updated information. Later this year, your certification records should be available online through your new secure login. There is a lot of consideration being given to streamlining the Technical Advancement Recognition Program (TARP) point recording, which is one way of maintaining your 3 year certification currency. It is still recommended that you maintain you own Personal Log of additional training that you receive as IMSA will only keep track of your TARP points as long as you (continuously) remain a member in good standing AND IMSA is made aware of your TARP accumulations. Be sure to inquire at any program applicable training if the provider is submitting TARP information on your behalf and enter it in your log anyway A Personal Log is available at http://www.imsasafety.org/renewal/renewal.pdf IMSA B.C. (and all the other Sections) are always looking for volunteers. We have recognized the need to resurrect some of the Special Education presentations (e.g. Cabinet Troubleshooting) that we have provided in the past but need additional resources to help update, coordinate and present these programs. We are looking at the Special Education projects as a means to allow to certification holders outside of the lower mainland, a more economical opportunity to obtain TARP points for certification renewal and provide additional training opportunities for the Industry throughout BC and the Yukon. As we primarily provide Certification Schools based on demand, be sure to get your names onto the waiting list for any certifications that you are interested in. The Certification tab at http://www.imsabc.ca will get you to the online registration area. If there is a certification that we can t provide locally, the upcoming International Conference in Scottsdale, AZ in early July offers all available IMSA Certifications. The link http://www.imsasafety.org will provide details of the conference. Stay Current! Stay Safe! Graeme Kraft IMSA B.C. Certification Chair certification@imsa.bc.ca
