Recently, I received this book, Galaxy S5: The Missing Manual which may be an even better book. The Hart-Davis book is more visually appealing which makes sense because learning visually is the premise of the series, but this one by Preston Gralla actually provides more

information in an equally well laid out format. It may not have the colors or smoother paper, but for learning about the Samsung Galaxy S5, I think it's a little better. For me, the weakness is the black and white shots of the phone screen which are not clear on some pages, but by actually using the smartphone, it all makes sense. I have had many android phones and am not a novice, so this is likely why I've garnered more information from this book even though the other is really more basic. One little example is that in this one, I learned that the maximum capacity of the micro SD card that can be used in this phone is 128 GB (page 19). There is no reference to SD cards in Hart-Davis book and is only discussed in the memory arena. Additionally, this book offers resources for further information which is helpful and truly the sign of a missing manual.if you are visual learner, perhaps the other book is better for you. Should you be a hands on learner, I'd likely recommend this one. This book is a few dollars less list price because the production values are not as high, but the information provided is still top notch. For me, I'm happy to have both books and reference them regularly. I recently got this for my daughter as she is getting a new Galaxy S5 next week and thought this would help her with some of the many features the phones seem to have these days. I for one would need a dummy guide to just turn the thing on let alone figure out how to use it.this guide is a heafty 400+ pages of just about anything and everything you could possibly want to know and use. I had gotten her another book on the S5 and I do think this one is a bit more user friendly. At least for me it is. This guide starts you out with telling you quite a bit about your new phone and showing you how to use it's most basic features. It really makes the setup on the S5 look like a piece of cake with the way everything is explaigned.you quickly get into the meat of the matter and are instructed chapter by chapter on different aspects and how to make the most out of each of them. I like all the camera features personally. The software editing looks like something you would get with a dslr manual. You go from learning texting to taking confernece calls to letting someone know that you are no available to so much more. This is a large reference quide and will take you through the entire S5 from front to back so it is a lot of reading and learning. I'm impressed!the price for this book is relatively cheap considering it's almost like a student text book and we all know how much those cost. This will be not only informative but a blessing for you if you decide to buy the Samsung Galaxy S5 and I really do recommend this for all it's informative value per dollar. This is the second book I got from about my new Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. I have not owned a smartphone before and I wanted to be sure I was as up to speed on it as I could be. I also didn't

want to waste my time. The first book I bought was "My Samsung Galaxy S5" by Steve Schwartz, which is more graphically appealing than the book here. The illustrations are in color and the text is well laid out. This book by Preston Gralla, though, is the book I've kept. The entries are very concise and to the point. Where the Schwartz book is very much designed for the absolute neophyte smartphone user, as i was, this Gralla book is for the S5 user who knows the basics of his/her phone, but now wants to know the shortcuts and the 'hidden' features behind those basics. That is the appeal of this book. The photos are black and white, and that is a bit disappointing, but the text is very informative and written very well. One may pay a bit more, but the rewards are bountiful. I have learned much about the Galaxy S5 in just the last week or so I have owned this book.recommended. I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone (after previously owning an iphone) and thought this manual would be perfect for getting me up to speed quickly.the manual is divided into six main parts, and each part has several chapters. Topics covered include using your Galaxy as a phone, and as a camera, how to get online, how to troubleshoot, etc.what I like about the book is everything is illustrated with pictures. If how to save videos is being discussed, for example, then there's a picture of exactly which buttons to push. It doesn't leave you hanging and confused. I've already learned so much more than what I would have figured out on my own.the only annoying part is the manual starts off like an ad, and continues this praise elsewhere. This is the "best smartphone on the planet!" "The Samsung Galaxy S5 is nothing short of remarkable!" "A darn good phone!" I found myself thinking, "Ok, calm down now..."that quibble aside, this is a very useful resource. Recommended!
