eatm tmanager Release 2.5 Appendix B1 Appendix B: Recmmended Usage Cnfiguratin design FAQ: What d yu recmmend when designing my cnfiguratin? RESPONSE: The eatm tmanager prducts have several features that yu shuld keep in mind when designing yur cnfiguratin. 1. Triggers have several firing cnditin ptins: Optin 1: Tag based (up t 2 tags) typical selectin The use f tag includes cmparisn f a tag t a cnstant r t anther tag. These tags d nt have t reside n the same device. Optin 2: Time schedule Optin 3: CLX MSG INSTRUCTION Optin 4: Cmbinatins Multiple time schedule cnditins Time schedule cnditin(s) r MSG INSTRUCTION ptin cmbined with the Optin 1 cnditin methd. Nte: A trigger s transactin will nt be utput frm the tmanager if any f its map s input variables are nt available when the trigger fires. If any f these variables are nt available, the trigger is marked as disabled and will nt retry fr 60 secnds. 2. Handshake mde selectin made in the trigger cnfiguratin effects when the next trigger firing ccurs: When cmbining transactins under ne trigger, remember that the trigger cannt fire again until the cmpletin f all the messages at their level f handshaking; therefre, ne slw message wuld cause all t wait fr its cmpletin. A trigger will nt fire unless all f the tag/variable used in bth its trigger firing cnditins r its maps surce are nt available. This disabled state is signified in the PrjectEditr trigger name marked with a yellw triangle. When disabled, the trigger will nt fire any f its messages s n transactin will ccur until all the required data is available. Status Tags TriggerStatusTags typical selectin when trigger handshaking is required It is nly used if the plc lgic will be mnitring the cmpletin status f this individual trigger. Fr triggers with multiple message paths, there is the ptin f a separate status tag fr each message path. EndpintStatusTags They are nly used if the plc lgic will be mnitring the verall health f this cnnectin. It is verall health because its value will nly reflect the status f the last transactin t this endpint. 4. Endpint architecture Create separate endpints fr each adapter based n the prperties that yur transactin will require. Fr example, INSERTS and UPDATES sent t a database wuld always utilize STOREANDFORWARD. SELECT cmmands requests data frm the database wuld typically nt utilize STOREANDFORWARD StredPrcedures utilize STOREANDFORWARD r nt based n the functin t be perfrmed by this StredPrcedure If yu have a transactin message which might expect t be mre time cnsuming, then use a separate endpint t allw faster transactins t cntinue while the slwer transactin wait in the queue. 5. Map A transactin will nt be utput frm the tmanager if any f its map s input variables are nt available when the trigger sent its read request. At that time, this trigger is disabled and will nt retry fr 60 secnds. Map may cntain variables (i.e. tags) frm multiple plcs typical installatin, ne plc in a map If yu wish the trigger t cntinue when ne r mre f the plcs is nt available, then yu wuld use a data cncentratr CLX. In that situatin, the map wuld be using nly variables frm the data cncentratr plc. Typical used fr nnautmatin endpints like databases and nt used fr AUTOMATION endpints RESPONSE: There are a few reasns. I wuld recmmend the use f transactin lgging with nn AUTOMATION endpints. Why? If any f the fllwing are true: 1. If yu wuld like t see the SQL message sent t the database and its respnse Nte Transactin lg cntents : This feature is useful in truble shting because bth the SUCCESSFUL and UNSUCCESSFUL transactins are lgged. If UNSUCCESSFUL, the database errr message is included in the lg. 2. If yu wuld like a histrical recrd f what yu sent. Nte Autmatic Exprt f mdule lgs : Yu can have it autmatically exprt via FTP r SMTP when a file becmes full. This feature is recmmended if yu wish t maintain this infrmatin fr lnger perids f time. 3. eatm tmanager Release 2.5 Appendix B4 Stre & Frward (S&F) FAQ: When shuld I use it? And Hw big shuld I make my Size f queue and Time T Live? RESPONSE: Yu wuld typically use S&F with nn AUTOMATION endpints. It is recmmended fr any transactin that yu wuld like t stre n the mdule until its destinatin is nce again functining. Once available, the data is passed ut in a FIFO. An example f this types are the INSERT and UPDATE database cmmands. The Time T Live is the maximum length f time that a transactin will be saved in this S&F. After this time perid, the transactin will be deleted. Fr yur Size f queue, yu will need t allcate enugh space fr the strage f yur transactins during the Time T Live perid that yu have selected. If yu are nt sure, I recmmend use f the default values f (10M and INDEFINITE). Nte S&F size : 1. These files will be created when yu save (select OK). 2. Yu cannt mdify an endpint cnfiguratin in any way useless the endpint is STOPPED and this queue is empty. 3. I recmmend that yur stre and frward lg sizes be 10M r less. When larger sizes are selected, yu will see a slw respnse t its selectin f OK r APPLY with the larger sizes because this drive area is allcated t this purpse (i.e. S&F fr this endpint) when yu save this cnfiguratin. 4. This handshaking mde selectin is made n yur trigger edit screen. Autmatin EndPints FAQ : Why wuld I use multiple AUTOMATION ENDPOINTS? RESPONSE: There are several reasns. A few f these are listed belw. 1. Endpint STATUS TAG feedback, if used, is set at the AUTOMATION ENDPOINT level. This tag will reflect the status f the last transactin back t its plcs via this endpint. 2. TRANSACTION LOGGING: This lg is typically nt used fr Autmatin endpints. If yu wanted t lg the cmmunicatin between device and this appliance fr sme triggers and nt fr ther, yu wuld use multiple ENDPOINT. In mst cases, yu will wish t lg the ENTIRE MESSAGE r have n transactin lgging; hwever, the flexibility f selecting the # f bytes t lg per message is supprted. These lgs may be autmatically exprted as the file is full via FTP r SMTP. NOTE: Transactin lg Transactin lgging is seldm used with AUTOMATION ENDPOINTS. Its need riginated in the enterprise adapter wrld; hwever, it can be useful if truble shting cntrllers in the future. We recmmend that this features is nly used when it is needed then turned back ff t remve its verhead n the mdule. 3. Endpint handshaking fr FLOW CONTROL, if used, is set at the AUTOMATION ENDPOINT level. While typically nt used, yu wuld use this feature if yu wish t request data fr a database fr example, then hld it in the tmanager (i.e. the AUTOMATION adapter s STORE AND FORWARD) until the plc was ready t receive it. NOTE: Flw Cntrl FLOW CONTROL include cmpletin success and n errr feedback in its respnse. Yu have a REQUEST tag and a RESPONSE tag (DINT) If successful, RESPONSE == REQUEST value On errr, RESPONSE = negative f the REQUEST value Data is written t the plc when the REQUEST value set t a new value which is: Nn zer <10,000 nt equal t the current RESPONSE tag (i.e. the value f the request tag changed) If yu wish t use the Knwledge Base r cntact Custmer Supprt yu can : Frm within the xatm Manager r Prject Editr sftware, select the HELP icn r Visit www.ldi.cm and select Supprt. and then Online Supprt
