Wiley Electronics LLC Washer, Electrical Equipment Bond WEEB Patent Pending INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS For Conergy SunTop only Please read carefully before installing. WEEB-CMC WEEBL-8.2 WEEB Bonding Jumper-8.2 Products are tested to UL 467 3098177 UL standard for safety grounding and bonding equipment Document Number 104-0404-000012-003
WEEB COMPATIBILITY The WEEB family of products can be used to bond anodized aluminum, galvanized steel, steel and other electrically conductive metal structures. Standard Top Down Clamps The WEEBs used for bonding the PV modules to the mounting rails are compatible with various cross-sections of module frames. The following are examples of module frames that are compatible. Notice that the WEEB teeth are positioned completely under the edge of the module frame. OK OK OK The following is an example of a module frame that is incompatible with the WEEB. The WEEB teeth are positioned only partially under the edge of the module due to the lip on the top edge of the module frame.
Top Down Clamps for Lipped Modules The following are a few variations of lipped solar modules mounted with inverted U-shaped clamps. Notice that the WEEB teeth are positioned so that they are in contact with the modules. OK Low-Lipped Module WEEB-CMC is not compatible with high lipped modules. The WEEB teeth do not intersect with the solar module frame. High-Lipped Module
SYSTEM OVERVIEW Use WEEB-CMC to bond solar modules to module mounting rail Use WEEB Bonding Jumper 8.2 to electrically connect spliced rails Important notes: 1. 2. Use one WEEBL-8.2 per rail to connect to equipment ground conductor Use general purpose anti-seize compound on fastener threads when installing WEEBs. WEEBs are intended for SINGLE USE ONLY. Functionality will not be guaranteed if reused.
WEEB-CMC LAYOUT EVEN NUMBER OF MODULES IN ROW DENOTED PLACES TO INSTALL WEEB-CMC CR = 41 WEEB-CMC NEEDED = CR = 41 = 4 ODD NUMBER OF MODULES IN ROW DENOTED PLACES TO INSTALL WEEB-CMC CR = 51 WEEB-CMC NEEDED = [C+1]R = [5+1]1 = 6 Note: When replacing a single faulty module, also remove the adjacent module which contacts the same WEEBs as the faulty module. This will ensure that there are never ungrounded modules in the array.
Installing WEEBL-8.2 Grounding Lug Assembly Assemble WEEBL-8.2 grounding lug assembly onto mounting rail as shown in figure below. Ensure that WEEB teeth contact the rail. Refer to manufacturers instructions on the use of the Quickstone technology. Tighten to 7 ft-lb Tighten to 10 ft-lb Quickstone WEEBL-8.2 WEEB teeth engages bonding surface on mounting rail
Installing WEEB-CMC Module Bonding Clips Bolt retention tabs Rail retention tabs WEEB-CMC Pre-assemble WEEB-CMC onto mid clamp assembly Solar module frames Tighten to 15ft-lb Install midclamp hardware into mounting rail, then snap WEEB-CMC onto mounting rail. When properly installed, the mid-clamp and WEEB-CMC assembly slide along rail for easy positioning. Ensure WEEB teeth contact both the solar module and mounting rail surfaces before tightening bolt.
Recommended Installation Procedure 1 Install mounting rails per manufacturer's specifications. Before installing solar modules onto mounting rails, use one WEEBL-8.2 grounding lug assembly per rail to connect mounting rails to equipment ground conductor. For long rails with splices, use the WEEB Bonding Jumper-8.2 to electrically connect spliced rails. WEEBL-8.2 grounding lugs are designed with a low profile to fit under the solar modules for an asthetically pleasing installation. Proper planning will ensure that the lug assemblies are positioned beneath the modules and away from the edge of the modules where the clamps are located. WEEBL-8.2 grounding lug connects to equipment ground conductor. Equipment Ground Conductor Use WEEB Bonding Jumper 8.2 to electrically connect spliced rails Note: To enhance safety during installation, connect equipment ground conductor to ground before installing solar modules. Solar modules will be grounded as they are installed to the grounded mounting rails.
2 Install end clamps to manufacturer's specification. Ensure that the solar modules are perpendicular to the mounting rails. Note: WEEB teeth contact the edge of the solar module frame and mounting rail to form the grounding connection. Module misalignments may cause WEEB teeth to miss the edge of the modules. Visually check that WEEBs are properly positioned. Install end clamp to manufacturer's specifications Install mid-clamp assembly, aligning WEEB-CMC by positioning the mid-clamp against the edge of the solar module Verify that the WEEB teeth are in full contact with the edge of the solar module and the mounting rails. Make necessary adjustments before installing the next module.
3 Position edge of module against mid-clamp When installing the next module, ensure that the WEEB teeth contacts the edge of the module. Make the necessary adjustments before tightening bolt to 15 ft-lb. When all modules in the row are installed, install end clamp to manufacturer's specification. Refer to WEEB layout to determine WEEB-CMC usage.
