DP400 HD-SDI to SDI Encoder/Decoder using DIRAC PRO by NuMedia The DP-400 range of products provides an optimum solution for the transport of SD & HD-SDI video over a variety of interfaces including SDI/DVB ASI and IP. The DP-400 uses a profile of DIRAC, which is a new SMPTE compression technology. The basic specification is documented in SMPTE 2042-1 and 2042-2 defines the VC-2 levels. SMPTE 2042-3 is the conformance specification. DIRAC-Pro is the low latency profile of DIRAC. Dirac Pro is a wavelet based compression technology similar to JPEG 2000 but is simpler to implement and more flexible in its capabilities. Developed by BBC Research and Development over many years, it was designed to offer comparable performance to state of the art compression schemes. However DIRAC-Pro has a number of additional unique features that were added specifically to improve video contribution. For example Viewable Bitstream:- For contribution over SD-SDI, the encoded bit-stream is fully compatible with existing SD-SDI equipment and infrastructure. A novel feature of DIRAC-Pro is that it is the ONLY compression technology that allows the encoded output to be viewed using conventional SD-SDI waveform monitors. This simplifies signal monitoring by allowing the reuse of existing monitoring equipment without the need for additional decoders. (This feature only applies to the DP-400E). Another example of the unique additional features is Near Zero Delay:- The processing delay or latency of the DP-400 is typically an order of magnitude lower than competing technologies. With an end-to-end latency of less than 3msec, it can be used for live-program exchange and HD video contribution with talk-back applications. The DP-400 provides an a_ordable and reliable solution for real time contribution and distribution of broadcast quality video over SDI & ASI networks. Each module has two SDI inputs and two SDI outputs, plus three fibre (SFP) ports that can be configured as dual ethernet data transceivers and a dual video transceivers. Each encoder or decoder module automatically detects all SDI/ASI/HD/3G standards and will either process or bypass formats as appropriate. The Chameleon 1RU modular system was designed with transmission reliability in mind. Incorporating dual redundant power supplies, each Chameleon frame will take up to four modules and each module can be configured as a either a decoder or encoder. The Chameleon 1RU frame uses a reverse backplane system to guarantee excellent return loss at data rates up to 3G SDI There are feature differences between the stand alone and Chameleon rack versions. Also the stand alone brick versions also have a DVI-I monitoring output which the Chameleon rack versions do not. Each module also incorporates input and output cross-point switching to maximise configuration options and supports automatic switching to a second channel in the event of signal failure. Parameters can be controlled locally or remotely via Ethernet by connecting the unit to a laptop or PC and opening up the resident web page and browser. Each unit is supplied with a fixed IP address but can be configured to accept a DHCP address if required. The DP-400 allows system designers to introduce HD-SDI capability into an existing SDI infrastructure. Fibre options allow for the transmission of video and audio signals over distances that cannot be accomplished using conventional copper co-axial cable. Up to 40 km of fibre can be driven when HD-SDI signals are applied. The bricks can be supplied in either 1310nm or 1550 nm versions.
