Introduction 1 1.1 Security Disclaimer Security information Siemens offers products and solutions with industrial security functions, which support the secure operation of plants, solutions, machines, devices and/or networks. They are important components of a holistic Industrial security concept. The products and solutions from Siemens undergo continuous development with this factor in mind. Siemens recommends you inform yourself about product updates on a regular basis. For the safe operation of products and solutions from Siemens, it is necessary to take suitable protective measures (e.g. cell protection concept) and to integrate each component into an overall IT security concept which corresponds to the state-of-the-art IT technology. Any third-party products that may be in use must also be taken into account. Please find further information at: http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity (http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity) Register for our product-specific newsletter to ensure that you are always informed about product updates. You can find additional information at: http://support.automation.siemens.com (http://support.automation.siemens.com) Industrial security alerts Information on security patches and security updates is available on the Internet: http://www.industry.siemens.com/topics/global/en/industrial-security/news-alerts/ (http://www.industry.siemens.com/topics/global/de/industrial-security/news-alerts/) Password security The administrator can specify the complexity of passwords in BData. Make sure that these specifications meets the usual security guidelines, for example, mandatory use of capital letters and special characters, minimum number of characters. Security of the login data Make sure that the backup of the login data in the browser is deactivated according to the security guidelines. Installation Manual, 11/2014, A5E35309694-AA 5

Introduction 1.1 Security Disclaimer Secure communication To increase the security of your communication between web client and web server, configure the servers so that only HTTPS connections are supported. You need a digital certificate for your servers. For more information, refer to "How to Set Up an HTTPS Service in IIS" in Microsoft Support (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324069/en-us (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324069)). Make sure to use an encryption strength that meets the latest security guidelines. Make sure that the database and application servers communicate in a shared area to exchange confidential data, a so-called demilitarized zone (DMZ). If the database server and the application server are located in separate areas, use appropriate measures to ensure confidential communication (authentication and encryption). For example, use a Virtual Private Network tunnel (VPN). Notes for communication on the Internet Avoid cross-site request forgery for the web server Cross-site request forgery is similar to the vulnerability caused by cross-site scripting (XSS, Cross Site Scripting). The attack is triggered when an authenticated user clicks on a malicious link. This weak spot exists even if scripting is deactivated in the browser. Siemens recommends: Do not work with other applications or services that have anything to do with the Internet. Log off when you do not need the web server any longer. 6 Installation Manual, 11/2014, A5E35309694-AA

Introduction 1.2 Software license agreement 1.2 Software license agreement The granting of licenses for automation and drive engineering software to the licensee is subject to written mutual agreements. Siemens grants the licensee rights of use for the software specified in the software product certificate. The type of software licensing is defined in the order confirmation. Note ORACLE Deutschland B.V. & Co. KG is the owner of the software (Oracle Database Standard/Enterprise Edition) contained in SIMATIC B.Data Basic System. Note B.Data V6.0 does not support access of third-party applications to the database included. Access is only possible by way of the B.Data application. The database must be licensed separately if you need to access it by a third-party application. For more information and answers to any questions, contact the B.Data Hotline. Installation Manual, 11/2014, A5E35309694-AA 7

Introduction 1.3 Use as intended 1.3 Use as intended WARNING Security note The software may be used only for the applications described in the catalog or the technical description, and only in combination with the software products, components and devices of other manufacturers where recommended or permitted by Siemens. Before you run any sample programs included with your product package, or user programs, make sure that harm to the health of human beings or damage to machinery is safely excluded during plant operation. 8 Installation Manual, 11/2014, A5E35309694-AA

2 2.1 Introduction The B.Data client enables users to access B.Data files from their workstation, to create reports, and compute evaluations. This documentation describes the installation of a B.Data system and the hardware and software requirements. In addition, you can use this setup to separately install clients, acquisition components and the Web server. If you decide to do so, additional services will be set up that are usually available to several users, e.g.: data acquisition automatic calculation of evaluation data and visualization of this data in Microsoft Excel. Setup automatically includes installation of the B.Data Portal when you install a function server and/or an acquisition component. B.Data clients require access to the B.Data Portal to complete their tasks. The B.Data Portal should usually be installed once and at a central location. Setup is multilingual. Currently supported languages are German and English. Installation Manual, 11/2014, A5E35309694-AA 9
