ProxiVision, a leading manufacturer of "Image Quality" intensifiers, has more than ten years of experience in fiber optic coupling of image intensifiers to CCD detectors. As a result of this expertise, PROXI- TRONIC has developed and produces a broad range of intensified CCD cameras for a wide variety of applications in industry, science and research. ProxiVision designed the fast shutter camera NANOCAM HF4 to be economic tool for easy analysis of fast events and movements where normal CCTV cameras don't see anymore. The new NANOCAM HF4 fast shutter CCD camera system is a further development based on the successful NANOCAM NCA fast shutter camera. The main innovation is the full digital microprocessor controlled camera logic which includes control of all CCD camera functions as well as the logical functions for the gating of the image intensifier. High Grade Image Quality The camera utilizes an image intensifier whose output screen is taper coupled to a SONY type ICX 022/083 CCD detector, having 768 X 494 (H X V) pixels in the EIA version and 756 X 581 (H X V) pixels in the CCIR version. This combination provides a high limiting resolution of max. 5.0 MHz (equivalent to 400 TV lines). 5 ns Exposure Time The image intensifier is gated with pulses generated by the pulse amplifier. Triggering of the pulse amplifier is possible by internal (V-synchronous) or external trigger pulses. The internal system pulse delay is approx. 150 ns with a jitter of max. 1 ns. The exact value will be measured and documented individually with each camera. An additional adjustable pulse delay time is available through a digital time delay unit with adjustable delay times between 0 and 65 ms in steps of 1 ns. The selectable gating duration and gate delay make the cameras universally useable in all fields of short time videography, for unblurred recording of fastest events, and as highly sensitive low light cameras - if used in DC mode. The multiburst generator supplies up to 8 gating pulses from one trigger pulse with a max. burst frequency of 1 khz. With the pulse width generator, the pulse duration may be set from 5 ns to 65 ms in steps of 1 ns.
Digital Control Unit The new high-quality camera electronics guarantees signal processing and readout at its best. Included with this camera is a specially developed Digital Control Unit (DCU) and input/output unit with many unique features. A control of the camera via the Digital Control Unit or a computer interface is available and gives access to all camera functions. C-Mount Input C-mount lens input is standard format. Other lenses such as Nikon, Olympus, etc., may be used with the appropriate adapters, thus making the NANOCAM camera easy to adapt to any system. The possibility for a variety of signal input and output combinations allows the NANOCAM to be employed in any application where CCTV cameras are used. The video output signal complies fully with both the EIA and CCIR video standards. Front view of HF4 with c-mount input adapter. Digital Control Unit.
High Sensitivity The HF cameras are an extremely sensitive camera ideal for very low light situations. It incorporates a high sensitivity, high resolution image intensifier making it up to 1.000.000 times more sensitive than a standard CCD camera. Spectral Sensitivity from 180 nm to 900 nm to cover the entire spectrum. UV Sensitivity Especially for the difficult visualization of ultraviolet radiation ProxiVision produces cameras with high UV-sensitive - and even solar-blind - photocathodes. Spectral Sensitivity S [ma/w] sensitivity [ma/w] 80 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 0 25% 20% B 15% 124 Q[%] = S[ ma W] λ[ nm] T E Q N C 10% 5% 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 900 wavelength [nm] The spectral response characteristic depends on the photocathode type used in the camera. Many Applications Many applications are found in the combustion analysis in engines and furnaces, turbulent flame research, observation of vibrations in material research, observation of propellers and rotators in aviation and navigation, and the optimisation of high-speed cutting and drilling tools. Short time physics Plasma research Flame research Ballistics and explosion analysis High speed imaging UV - measuring Vibration analysis Astronomy Low light level microscopy and imaging Observance of low light emitting fluorescence phosphor screens such as in electron microscopy, scintillators, etc. Security and surveillance Development for Customers In addition to the camera types mentioned in this data sheet, ProxiVision offers custom-designed versions developed in close cooperation with the user. Digital Control Unit (DCU) for NANOCAM System Assembly Digital Control Unit The Digital Control Unit works with a microcontroller generating the commands and also controlling the logic electronics, and the display. A keyboard in the control unit allows operation of the whole camera system without using a PC. Multiple camera operation by the PC is possible by connection via the RS 232 matrix in the control unit. The digital control unit is connected to the camera with a 3 m [10 ft] long cable and allows the user to control the following camera settings and functions (DCU HF Basic version): DCU HF Basic version: Black level (for an individual setting of the signal dynamic to enhance weak image signals or to suppress background illumination) Gamma (The gamma setting changes the grey scale response and thus the ratio between light and dark image parts) (0.45/1.0) Integration mode (field / frame) MCP-gain (gain of the MCP image intensifier) LCD - contrast and baud rate Overload protection In- and output configuration Gate mode Gate duration Automatic video gain AGC (on/off) Video gain (0.. 100%) The camera system consists of the camera head and the control unit which are connected by a multicore system cable. DCU HF Extended: The extended version of the digital control unit (DCU HF Extended) for fast shutter cameras is similar to the DCU HF Basic with the following additional functions: CCD Integration (for increasing the sensitivity of the CCD camera) Camera multisystem number (up to 100 cameras can be controlled via serial interface) Memory (store of camera all settings in 16 memory blocks) Internal frequency generator Gate delay Multiply exposure (Multiburst) Multiply exposure-frequency (Burst Frequency) All external connections as well as the operation elements, control electronics, and power supply are contained in the desktop control box. The al digital frame store will also be integrated in the control unit.
