Frequently Asked Questions Question: Citrix, Virtual Desktop, Virtual Client, VM, VDI what do all these mean? Answer: Citrix is company that offers technology to present a virtual Windows 7 desktop to you. It s the same Windows 7 as on your physical PC but its running in our datacenter and being presented to you over the network through a virtual session. This allows you to connect to it from anywhere in the world while making it easy for IT personnel to manage and update it from our secure datacenter. The terms Virtual Desktop, Virtual Client, VM (Virtual Machine), VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) are all interchangeable terms for your Windows 7 Virtual Desktop. Question: I cannot get Citrix Receiver to launch. Answer: Your Citrix Receiver may be old. Update from the App Store for mobile devices or from http://receiver.citrix.com for personal desktops/laptops. If you are trying to connect from a company device, please contact the IT Service Desk for the correct version. Question: My virtual session is slow or lags. Answer: This is usually because of poor connectivity. If you are in the field on a mobile device connect to Wi-Fi instead of 4G (cellular data) if possible. Log off, then log back into your session. If you are in a hotel or other shared network environment they often limit bandwidth. We suggest you stop all high bandwidth applications on your laptop/mobile device such streaming video, VPN, etc. before connecting to Citrix through http://mobile.energytransfer.com. Question: How do I map my printer? Answer: We recommend you map network printers. Only the default local printer will be mapped into the VDI session and it is not saved since you could be logging in from multiple locations and devices. Any network printers that you map within the VDI session will be saved however which is why we recommend it. Question: How do I connect to the C: drive on my local PC? I need to copy some files into my VDI session. Answer: We do not allow USB drives or local drives on PCs/laptops to be mapped into the VDI session when you are coming in externally as a security precaution (mobile.energytransfer.com). If you are coming in internally (myapps.energytransfer.net), we do not have these restrictions in place. Question: How do I connect to my workstation in the office through my VDI session? Answer: In most cases your VDI session will include all the same applications as on your regular office workstation. In the rare case it does not, please contact the IT Service Desk and let them know you need an application added. You may also use RDP to remote into your office workstation from within your VDI session if you need to. Need more assistance?
