While the integratin can als frward the SNMP traps that HPE NNMi receives frm managed devices t the prbe, it is recmmended that yu instead use the NNMi SNMP trap frwarding mechanism. Enabling the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware The NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware includes files fr cnfiguring the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe and the Netcl event viewers. Because IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus is highly cnfigurable, the instructins fr the IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus side f the cnfiguratin might nt exactly match yur Netcl/OMNIbus system. It is recmmended that an experienced Netcl/OMNIbus administratr cmplete the prcedure fr enabling the integratin. T enable the NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware, fllw these steps: 1. Gather the infrmatin fr cnfiguring Netcl/OMNIbus: a. On any cmputer, lg n t the NNMi cnsle as an NNMi user with the Administratr rle. b. In the NNMi cnsle, pen the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Cnfiguratin Actins frm (Integratin Mdule Cnfiguratin > Netcl). c. Dwnlad the rules include file fr the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe by right-clicking the nnmi.include.rules link and then saving the file t a knwn place n the cmputer. The nnmi.include.rules file defines a rule fr interpreting the SNMPv2c traps f the NNMi management events. Cnfigure the prbe t receive SNMP traps n an available UDP prt. Nte this prt number fr cnfiguring the integratin in NNMi. Verify that the prbe prt is different frm the prt NNMi uses t receive SNMP traps. T cnfigure the NNMi SNMP prt, use the Cmmunicatin Cnfiguratin frm in the NNMi cnsle. b. Cpy the nnmi.include.rules file frm "Gather the infrmatin fr cnfiguring Netcl/OMNIbus:""Dwnlad the rules include file fr the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe by rightclicking the nnmi.include.rules link and then saving the file t a knwn place n the cmputer." t the NNMi management server. c. Back up the master rules file, and then pen the file in any text editr. d. Within the Netcl/OMNIbus enterprise trap switch blck, add an include directive fr the nnmi.include.rules file, and then save the master rules file. e. In the NNMi cnsle, pen the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Cnfiguratin Actins frm (Integratin Mdule Cnfiguratin > Netcl). c. Click Enable/Disable NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware, and then click New. (If yu have selected an available destinatin, click Reset t make the New buttn available.) d. On the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Destinatin frm, select the Enabled check bx t make the remaining fields n the frm available. e. Enter the infrmatin fr cnnecting t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe. Fr infrmatin abut these fields, see "Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe Cnnectin". f. Specify the sending ptins. Yu might need t add definitins t the nnmi.include.rules file fr new NNMi management events r if NNMi management events have been custmized (such as events sent frm custm plls). Tip: Yu can select Send in the Deletins field and cnfigure HPE NNMi t send a deletin trap t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe fr each incident that is deleted in NNMi. Make sure t save yur changes. Yu might need t add definitins t the nnmi.include.rules file t recgnize the deletin traps and t permit the Netcl/OMNIbus system t crrectly prcess them. Tip: SNMP traps fall int three categries: NNMi Management Events: These events riginate within NNMi, such as NdeDwn r IncidentDwn events. These events can nly be sent t Netcl/OMNIbus thrugh the Nrthbund Interface. They will be sent in the NNMi Incident trap frmat, as dcumented in the hp-nnmi-nbi.mib MIB. This methd is explained in mre detail in the next tip. 3rd-Party SNMP Traps: These are SNMP traps that riginate utside f NNMi, and are received by the NNMi trap receiver cmpnents. These traps can be frwarded t Netcl/OMNIbus thrugh the Nrthbund Interface r thrugh the NNMi trap frwarder. This methd is explained in mre detail in the next tip. HPE ArcSight Lgger Syslg messages: These are events that riginate in HPE ArcSight Lgger and are integrated with NNMi. These events can be sent t Netcl thrugh the Nrthbund Interface. They will be sent in the NNMi Incident trap frmat, as dcumented in the hparcsight.mib MIB. See "Cnfiguring HPE NNMi t Frward Lgger Syslg Messages ". By spfing the sending address, the trap, when received, will appear t have cme directly frm the riginal surce instead f frm NNMi. NNMi incidents: Yu can frward NNMi incidents t any applicatin that can receive SNMPv2c traps using the NNMi nrthbund interface. T send 3rd party traps frm HPE NNMi t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe using this methd, d the fllwing: i. Select 3rd Party SNMP Traps in the Incidents field. Save yur changes. ii. Changing the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware T change the NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware cnfiguratin parameters, fllw these steps: 1. In the NNMi cnsle, pen the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Cnfiguratin Actins frm (Integratin Mdule Cnfiguratin > Netcl). Disabling the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware N SNMP trap queuing ccurs while a destinatin is disabled. T discntinue the frwarding f NNMi management events t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe, fllw these steps: 1. In the NNMi cnsle, pen the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Cnfiguratin Actins frm (Integratin Mdule Cnfiguratin > Netcl). 2. Click Enable/Disable NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware. 3. Select a destinatin, and then click Edit. Alternatively, click Delete t entirely remve the cnfiguratin fr the selected destinatin. 4. On the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Destinatin frm, clear the Enable check bx at the tp f the frm, and then click Submit at the bttm f the frm. The changes take effect immediately. 5. T cnserve system resurces, shut dwn the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe while the destinatin is disabled. T permanently disable the integratin, als d the fllwing: Uninstall the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe as described in the prbe dcumentatin. Remve the NNMi menu items frm the Netcl/Webtp and Netcl/OMNIbus Event List cnfiguratins. Trubleshting the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Des Nt Receive Any Frwarded HPE NNMi Management Events If the Netcl event viewer des nt cntain any traps frm HPE NNMi, fllw these steps: HPE Netwrk Nde Manager i Sftware (NNMi 10.20) Page 14 f 22
1. Verify that the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe is receiving traps: a. Verify that the prbe can send messages t the Netcl/OMNIbus server. b. Verify that the prbe master rules file includes r cntains the cntent f the nnmi.include.rules file. c. Verify the syntax f the master rules file. d. Examine the prbe lg file t verify that there were n prblems lading the rules file. e. Examine the prbe lg file t determine whether the NNMi traps arrive at the prbe. f. Examine the prbe lg file t determine whether the prbe prcesses r drps the incming traps. Fr infrmatin abut trubleshting the prbe, see the Netcl/OMNIbus dcumentatin. 2. Verify that NNMi is frwarding management events t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe. Fr infrmatin, see Trubleshting the NNMi Nrthbund Interface in the NNMi Deplyment Reference. Netcl/OMNIbus Des Nt Receive Sme Frwarded NNMi Management Events If ne r mre NNMi management event traps d nt appear in the Netcl event viewer, fllw these steps: 1. Verify that the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe master rules file includes r cntains the cntent f the nnmi.include.rules file. 2. Verify that Netcl/OMNIbus is running. If the Netcl/OMNIbus server shuts dwn, the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe queues received traps. The prbe frwards the queued traps when the Netcl/OMNIbus server becmes available. HPE NNMi relies n the prbe t queue and frward traps. If the prbe shuts dwn, the frwarded traps are lst. 3. Verify that the NNMi prcesses are running. Sme Attributes f Netcl Traps Received frm NNMi have Missing r Incrrect Data The Netcl prbe rules prvided in the nnmi.include.rules cnfiguratin file are designed t perate within the framewrk f the Netcl Knwledge Library rule set. NNMi rules are designed t stre key NNMi incident infrmatin in unused alarm clumns t enable right-click tls t be launched frm Webtp r the Web GUI. Other rules that are distributed with the Netcl Knwledge Library and enabled in yur deplyment might verwrite the NNMi values and shuld be checked if the right-click tls fail t launch because f missing data. T verify the final value f certain attributes (clumns) nce received, specify details($*) in the nnmi.include.rules cnfiguratin file as fllws: 1. Open the nnmi.include.rules cnfiguratin file. 2. Errr When Launching an NNMi Frm fr a Layer 2 Cnnectin If the surce bject in an NNMi management event is a layer 2 cnnectin, NNMi users with a rle ther than Administratr cannt pen the NNMi frm directly frm the Surce Object menu item in the Netcl event viewer. Instead, in the Netcl event viewer, use the L2 Neighbrs menu item t cnnect t NNMi, and then duble-click the cnnectin in the Layer 2 Neighbr View. HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Destinatin Frm Reference The HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Destinatin frm cntains the parameters fr cnfiguring cmmunicatins between HPE NNMi and a Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe. When a valid NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware license has been installed n the NNMi management server, this frm is available frm the Integratin Mdule Cnfiguratin wrkspace. Each filter entry can be a valid numeric OID (fr example,.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.4.1.3.6.1.4.1.9) r OID prefix (fr example,.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.*). Select ne f the fllwing ptins: Nne HPE NNMi sends all events t the prbe. This is the default cnfiguratin. Include HPE NNMi sends nly the specific events that match the OIDs identified in the filter. Exclude HPE NNMi sends all events except fr the specific events that match the OIDs identified in the filter. Specify the incident filter: T add a filter entry, enter the text in the lwer text bx, and then click Add.
