This chapter cntains the fllwing tpics: "HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware" "Enabling the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware" "Cnfiguring HPE NNMi t Frward Lgger Syslg Messages " "Using the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware" "Changing the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware" "Disabling the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware" "Trubleshting the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware" "HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware Destinatin Frm Reference" HPE Netwrk Nde Manager i Sftware (NNMi 10.20) Page 5 f 22

HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware The HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware frwards NNMi management events as SNMPv2c traps t a Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe n the NNMi management server. The prbe filters the NNMi traps and frwards them t the Netcl/OMNIbus server. While the integratin can als frward the SNMP traps that HPE NNMi receives frm managed devices t the prbe, it is recmmended that yu instead use the NNMi SNMP trap frwarding mechanism. Fr mre infrmatin, see the hp-nnmi-nbi.mib file. The integratin prvides menu items that extend the Netcl event viewers fr launching NNMi frms and views in the cntext f a selected event. The NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware is a specific implementatin f the HPE NNMi nrthbund interface, which is described in the NNMi Nrthbund Interface chapter in the NNMi Deplyment Reference. The NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware cnsists f the fllwing cmpnents: nnmi-nrthbund integratin mdule Cnfiguratin files fr cnverting NNMi traps t Netcl/OMNIbus events and creating new menus in the Netcl/Webtp event lists and the Netcl/OMNIbus Event List Value The NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware adds netwrk-level fault and perfrmance infrmatin t Netcl/OMNIbus, s that Netcl/OMNIbus users can detect and investigate ptential netwrk prblems. The primary features f the integratin are as fllws: Autmatic management event frwarding frm HPE NNMi t IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus. Frwarded management events appear in the Netcl/Webtp event lists and the Netcl/OMNIbus Event List. Access t the NNMi cnsle frm Netcl/Webtp and IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus. IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus users can pen an NNMi frm (fr example, the Nde frm) in the cntext f a selected event and tplgy bject. IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus users can pen an NNMi view (fr example, the Layer 2 Neighbr view) in the cntext f a selected event and nde. IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus users can pen the NNMi Incident frm in the cntext f a selected event. Integrated Prducts The infrmatin in this chapter applies t the fllwing prducts: IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Tip: Fr the list f supprted versins, see the NNMi System and Device Supprt Matrix. NNMi 10.20 with an NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware license Nte: Installing NNMi enables a temprary Instant-On license key fr the NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware. T use the integratin after the Instant-On license key expires, btain and install a permanent license key fr the NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware. HPE NNMi and IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus must be installed n separate cmputers. The NNMi management server and the Netcl/OMNIbus server can be f the same r different perating systems. The Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe must be installed n the NNMi management server. Fr the mst recent infrmatin abut supprted hardware platfrms and perating systems, see the HPE NNMi supprt matrix and the IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus prduct dcumentatin. Dcumentatin This chapter describes hw t cnfigure the NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware t frward NNMi management events t a Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe. It als describes hw t use the integratin functinality. Fr infrmatin abut IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus, see that applicatin s dcumentatin. Enabling the HPE NNMi Integratin Mdule fr IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus Sftware The NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware includes files fr cnfiguring the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe and the Netcl event viewers. Because IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus is highly cnfigurable, the instructins fr the IBM Tivli Netcl/OMNIbus side f the cnfiguratin might nt exactly match yur Netcl/OMNIbus system. It is recmmended that an experienced Netcl/OMNIbus administratr cmplete the prcedure fr enabling the integratin. T enable the NNMi Integratin Mdule fr Netcl Sftware, fllw these steps: 1. Gather the infrmatin fr cnfiguring Netcl/OMNIbus: a. On any cmputer, lg n t the NNMi cnsle as an NNMi user with the Administratr rle. b. Tip: The nnmi.include.rules file cntains example rules fr interpreting standard NNMi management events sent thrugh the Nrthbund Interface as SNMPv2c traps. Yu might need t add definitins t the nnmi.include.rules file fr new NNMi management events r if NNMi management events have been custmized (such as events sent frm custm plls). Tip: Yu can select Send in the Deletins field and cnfigure HPE NNMi t send a deletin trap t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe fr each incident that is deleted in NNMi. Make sure t save yur changes. Yu might need t add definitins t the nnmi.include.rules file t recgnize the deletin traps and t permit the Netcl/OMNIbus system t crrectly prcess them. Tip: SNMP traps fall int three categries: NNMi Management Events: These events riginate within NNMi, such as NdeDwn r IncidentDwn events. These events can nly be sent t Netcl/OMNIbus thrugh the Nrthbund Interface. They will be sent in the NNMi Incident trap frmat, as dcumented in the hp-nnmi-nbi.mib MIB. This methd is explained in mre detail in the next tip. 3rd-Party SNMP Traps: These are SNMP traps that riginate utside f NNMi, and are received by the NNMi trap receiver cmpnents. These traps can be frwarded t Netcl/OMNIbus thrugh the Nrthbund Interface r thrugh the NNMi trap frwarder. This methd is explained in mre detail in the next tip. HPE ArcSight Lgger Syslg messages: These are events that riginate in HPE ArcSight Lgger and are integrated with NNMi. These events can be sent t Netcl thrugh the Nrthbund Interface. They will be sent in the NNMi Incident trap frmat, as dcumented in the hparcsight.mib MIB. See "Cnfiguring HPE NNMi t Frward Lgger Syslg Messages ". Read the remaining tips, then see "Table 1 Trap Frwarding Chices" fr a summary f yur frwarding chices. Tip: If yu must send 3rd party traps frm HPE NNMi t Netcl/OMNIbus as NNMi events, d either f the fllwing: 3rd-Party SNMP Traps (NNMi trap frwarding): Cnfigure SNMP trap frwarding t Netcl/OMNIbus frm the NNMi cnsle using the Trap Frwarding ptin under the Incidents flder f the Cnfiguratin wrkspace. Fr mre infrmatin see Cnfigure Trap Frwarding in the NNMi help. This methd requires nrmal trap cnfiguratin, and invlves lading the crrect MIBs, creating incidents, and enabling these incidents. See Cnfigure Trap Frwarding in the NNMi help. Traps are sent t Netcl/OMNIbus in their riginal frmat unless yu cnfigured NNMi t translate the traps int a different frmat (such as translating frm SNMPv3 t SNMPv2c r SNMPv1). This methd shuld permit existing Netcl trap rules (such as thse published by IBM in the Netcl Knwledge Library) t wrk withut change. HPE Netwrk Nde Manager i Sftware (NNMi 10.20) Page 9 f 22

Yu can cnfigure NNMi t spf the sending address (make the address appear as if it riginated frm a different surce). By spfing the sending address, the trap, when received, will appear t have cme directly frm the riginal surce instead f frm NNMi. NNMi incidents: Yu can frward NNMi incidents t any applicatin that can receive SNMPv2c traps using the NNMi nrthbund interface. T send 3rd party traps frm HPE NNMi t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe using this methd, d the fllwing: i. Select 3rd Party SNMP Traps in the Incidents field. Save yur changes. ii. Cnfigure the nnmi.include.rules file fr the specific traps yu want t frward t the Netcl/OMNIbus SNMP Prbe. Fr mre infrmatin, see the NNMi Nrthbund Interface chapter in the NNMi Deplyment Reference. This methd prvides the fllwing benefits: NNMi sends events after they pass thrugh NNMi functins, such as filtering and enrichment. Fr example, NNMi nly frwards link dwn traps fr managed interfaces n managed ndes. Events will cntain NNMi enrichment infrmatin, including infrmatin abut the assciated nde that might prvide additinal diagnstic value fr ther applicatins, This methd requires nrmal trap cnfiguratin, and invlves lading the crrect MIBs, creating incidents, and enabling these incidents. It als requires rules in the Netcl/OMNIbus system t prcess each varbind crrectly.
