The setting is done using on screen display and buttons on the device. As you might imagine, if you are not getting any output image on the screen then you will not be able to see what you are doing to change the resolution! That s why we have implemented two measures to ensure a way to get an image on the screen. (a) The unit is shipped with its output resolution set to Native. This means that the scaler will read the EDID of the connected display and try to match the display s highest supported resolution (in the detailed timing blocks of the EDID) with what the scaler can do, and if it finds a match it will output that. If the none of the display s detailed native timings match what the scaler can do, then it outputs 480p that all HDMI displays have to support. So you will have a picture. (b) If there is still no picture (maybe the output resolution setting was changed from NATIVE to something else which the display cannot support), then pressing the Menu+Down buttons together will set the output to 480p, or if you are dealing with a DVI LCD, then Menu+Up will give you XGA that all DVI monitors have to support. 2.0 Input Resolutions The input of the Scaler has a video frame capture device and it is capable of accepting the following resolutions: 640x480 (VGA) 800x600 (SVGA) 1024x768 (XGA) 1280x800 (WXGA) 1440x900 (WXGA+) 1280x1024 (SXGA) 1400x1050 (SXGA+) 1600x1200 (UXGA) 1680x1050 (WSXGA) 1920x1200 (WUXGA) 480I 480P 576I 576P 720p 1080i 1080p Input Resolutions Supported 60/72/75/85 Hz 56/60/72/75/85 Hz 60/70/75/85 Hz 60/75/85 Hz 50 Hz 50 HZ 50/ 50/ 50/ The input stage also has an EDID table that the source can read. In the EDID table lists a number of standard resolutions marked as supported. However the following detailed timings are provided. Most PC sources (with DVI outputs) pay attention to the detailed timings in the 1 st block of EDID, while HDMI sources pay attention to the 2 nd block.
