This is a guide for completing SAM Textbook. These are general instructions and should not be used for a specific assignment. For instructions regarding a specific assignment, please see the assignment instructions in the Canvas modules. Selecting the Project Select our course from the dropdown menu and make sure that and Always Available are selected. Select the project that you are currently working on. HOW TO COMPLETE SAM TEXTBOOK PROJECTS 2
Download the Files Download the file(s) that SAM provides in the start file and support file sections. The start file may be a blank document that you will use to create a document from scratch OR it might have content started for you. There may or may not be files to download in the support files section. If there are no support files listed, that means you will not need any support files for that project. Complete the Project The instructions for the Textbook are in the textbook. Read through the corresponding tutorial pages and apply the steps in the tan boxes to your start file. (When the book says to create a new file, ignore that and use the start file from SAM instead) Make sure to work through the entire tutorial and work step by step. Some tutorials have two parts, each part is a separate project in SAM. (For example, Tutorial 1 has 1.1 and 1.2) You do not need to do the additional case files (blue pages) at the end of each tutorial. HOW TO COMPLETE SAM TEXTBOOK PROJECTS 4
ereader Option You will notice that there is a blue bar on the SAM textbook project page that says the book and chapter name. This is a link to view the textbook chapter online thought the SAM reader. You may use your actual textbook OR the online reader to view the steps necessary to complete the document. Save and Submit Save - When you have completed all of the steps for the tutorial textbook project, save your document in a location on your computer that you will remember. Make sure to save the document using the name required in the SAM project page, not the name in the textbook I recommend that you make a folder in your Documents folder for all of your CIS113 assignments. It is also a good idea to back up your work using Google Drive or an external flash drive. Submit - Go back to the textbook project page in SAM if you have closed out of it. Scroll down to the Assignment Submission section and click the Choose Files button Locate and select your document Make sure that your uploaded file name matches the SAM filename example (common errors include having a second document extension, i.e..doc.docx) Click Submit to submit your textbook project HOW TO COMPLETE SAM TEXTBOOK PROJECTS 6
View Report After you have successfully submitted your project, go to the Reports page in SAM. Make sure that our course is selected from the dropdown menu and that are selected. Find your project submission and click the reports and files icon on the right side to download the project report. Open the project report to view your score and any items that you did not complete correctly. Scroll down to see your document and comments for anything that was missed. Make Changes and Resubmit Using the score report for reference, go back to your original document and make any necessary changes. Go into the SAM Textbook Project and resubmit it. You may submit projects up to a total of 3 times, one original submission and two resubmissions. When you are satisfied with your score, go to the assignment page in Canvas and submit your score.
