Warning information N O T E! The information in this Manual does not purport to cover all details or variations in equipment, nor to provide for every possible contingency to be met in connection with installation, operation or maintenance. Should further information be desired or should particular problems arise which are not covered sufficiently for the purchaser s purposes, please contact your local Siemens office. Further, the contents of this Manual shall not become a part of or modify any prior or existing agreement, committment or relationship. The sales contract contains the entire obligation of Siemens. The warranty contained in the contract between the parties is the sole warranty of Siemens. Any statements contained herein do not create new warranties nor modify the existing warranty.. Warning information W A R N I N G! Electrical equipment has components which are at dangerous voltage levels. If these instructions are not strictly adhered to, this can result in severe bodily injury and material damage. Only appropriately qualified personnel may work on this equipment or in its vicinity. This personnel must be completely knowledgeable about all the warnings and service measures according to this User Manual. The successful and safe operation of this equipment is dependent on proper handling, installation, operation and maintenance. Siemens AG Dk No. 224841 Edition 04.97 1

Warning information Definitions * QUALIFIED PERSONNEL For the purpose of this User Manual and product labels, a Qualified person is someone who is familiar with the installation, mounting, start-up and operation of the equipment and the hazards involved. He or she must have the following qualifications: 1. Trained and authorized to energize, de-energize, clear, ground and tag circuits and equipment in accordance with established safety procedures. 2. Trained in the proper care and use of protective equipment in accordance with established safety procedures. 3. Trained in rendering first aid. * DANGER For the purpose of this User Manual and product labels, Danger indicates death, severe personal injury and/or substantial property damage will result if proper precautions are not taken. * WARNING For the purpose of this User Manual and product labels, Warning indicates death, severe personal injury or property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken. * CAUTION For the purpose of this User Manual and product labels, Caution indicates that minor personal injury or material damage can result if proper precautions are not taken. * NOTE For the purpose of this User Manual, Note indicates information about the product or the respective part of the User Manual which is essential to highlight. C A U T I O N! This board contains components which can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge. Prior to touching any electronics board, your body must be electrically discharged. This can be simply done by touching a conductive, grounded object immediately beforehand (e.g. bare metal cabinet components, socket protective conductor contact). W A R N I N G! Hazardous voltages are present in this electrical equipment during operation. Non-observance of the safety instructions can result in severe personal injury or property damage. It is especially important that the warning information in all of the relevant Operating Instructions are strictly observed. 2 Edition 04.97 Siemens AG Dk No. 224841

Ordering information 1. Ordering information IT41: 6DD 1606-3AC0 2. Function description 2.1. General information The IT41 expansion module is used in the SIMADYN D system to process general technological open-loop and closed-loop tasks, such as, for example, closed-loop speed or position controls. The IT41 expansion module is plugged-onto the PM4 basic processor board using a 96-pin plug connector. The expansion module power supply is realized through the basic processor board. If required, one additional IT41 or IT42 expansion module can be plugged-onto the IT41 expansion module. In addition to the analog and binary inputs/outputs, the IT41 has 4 pulse encoder inputs for closedloop speed or position controls, which can either be configured for 3-phase encoders (incremental encoder with 2 tracks displaced through 90, with/without zero pulse), or 2-phase encoders (incremental encoder, one track for the forwards- and track for the reverse pulses). All of the input/output signal conductors are not directly connected to the expansion module, but are indirectly connected through the interface modules. The interface modules are used as a mechanical connecting element and also to electrically adapt the incoming plant signals. Siemens AG Dk No. 224841 Edition 04.97 3

Board design 3. Board design The IT41 expansion board has the following features * 2 front panel connectors X6 and X7 for the input and output signals * Board identification code * 4 analog inputs 12 bit resolution, typical 10-bit absolute accuracy over the complete temperature range * 4 analog outputs 16 bit resolution, 14-bit monotone, typical 13-bit absolute accuracy over the complete temperature range * 16 binary inputs * 16 binary outputs with P24 connection for an external supply * 4 pulse sensing inputs (for determining speed and position), floating using two internal board connectors per channel (X100,X101 to X400,X401), eachchannel can either be configured for 15 V 3-phase encoders, or for 5 V 3-phase encoders and 5 V 2-phase encoders (e.g. SONY encoder, type HA 705 LK / MSD 560). * 4 monitoring inputs for 15 V three-phase encoders * 4 interrupt inputs for 5 V 2/3 phase encoders (e.g. SONY encoder, type HA 705 LK / MSD 560) This should not be confused with the alarm inputs (connector X5) of the basic processor board PM4! * 4 outputs to reset the 5 V 2/3 phase encoder alarm signals Siemens AG Dk No. 224841 Edition 04.97 5

Important application information 4. Important application information The subracks must be equipped with bus terminating modules or buffer memory boards. The expansion module can only be used with the PM4. The basic processor board and expansion board each occupy 1 slot. The board must be tightly screwed into the subrack to ensure perfect operation (also during start-up). If the board is inserted in an adapter for testing, the front panel must be connected to the housing through a short conductor. It is not permissible to insert or withdraw the board when the subrack is powered-up. All inputs and outputs are connected to the plant-side signal cables via appropriate interface modules (refer to Section...). Please observe the orientation of the coding plug (refer to Fig. 2)! The coding plug is assigned to the pulse encoder channels as follows : X100,X101 - Pulse encoder channel 1 X200,X201 - " 2 X300,X301 - " 3 X400,X401 - " 4 Depending on the coding plug orientation, either select the 15 V 3-phase encoder or 5 V 2-phase encoder (e.g. SONY encoder). The board is always set for a 15 V 3-phase encoder. Caution: Incorrectly inserted coding plugs can cause the inputs to be destroyed when pulses are fed-in! 6 Edition 04.97 Siemens AG Dk No. 224841

ESD instructions 10. ESD instructions Components which can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge (ESD) Generally, electronic boards should only be touched when absolutely necessary. The human body must be electrically discharged before touching an electronics board. This can be simply done by touching a conductive, grounded object directly beforehand (e.g. bare metal cubicle components, socket outlet protective conductor contact). Boards must not come into contact with highly-insulating materials - e.g. plastic foils, insulated desktops, articles of clothing manufactured from man-made fibers. Boards must only be placed on conductive surfaces. When soldering, the soldering iron tip must be grounded. Boards and components should only be stored and transported in conductive packaging (e.g. metalized plastic boxes, metal containers). If the packing material is not conductive, the boards must be wrapped with a conductive packing material, e.g. conductive foam rubber or household aluminum foil. The necessary ESD protective measures are clearly shown in the following diagram. a = Conductive floor surface b = ESD table c = ESD shoes d = ESD overall e = ESD chain f = Cubicle ground connection Seated Standing Standing / sitting Siemens AG Dk No. 224841 Edition 04.97 21
