World News Express (WNE) Reuters World News Express (WNE) is a file-based video delivery system. In addition to delivering video stories (as Reuters journalists complete them), WNE also supplies video-related scripts which are accessible across the Newsroom, creating opportunities for collaboration. By permanently linking distribution rights, shot lists and script information to the file, WNE makes it easy to search, manage and store videos. WNE content is delivered via satellite to a Reuters supplied WNE caching PC. The WNE caching PC is able to forward WNE content to other client computer equipment at the receiving location via FTP, using a Reuterssupplied application called FTP Suite. Note: The new software will no longer use the HTTP service from IIS. As a result, this service is disabled by the WNE 4.1 installation. However, FTP in IIS will continue to work as normal. If you have made any customizations to your WNE PC that rely on this service and are concerned that the software upgrade may disrupt them please contact us as soon as possible so that we can provide assistance. Installation Installation Checklist Note: It is recommended that the PC on which you will be installing WNE 4.1 is running Windows XP Service Pack 3. If you do not have this service pack already installed, complete the installation in this document first, then install the Windows XP Service Pack 3. The installation of Windows XP Service Pack 3 will proceed much quicker if instruct all users of the WNE PC and WNE website to refrain from accessing the system during this service pack upgrade. Additionally, we recommend stopping the File Direct application during this service pack upgrade. If you using non Reuters-supplied hardware and are running Windows 2003 Server, you must ensure that Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 2 is installed on your WNE hardware before running the installation in this document. The following is a checklist of actions you should be sure to perform to complete the installation/upgrade of your WNE v.4.1 website. Ensure that your WNE PC has adequate anti-virus protection software installed on it and that that software has been properly updated Run the installation procedure using the wneinstaller-4.1.x.exe file (where X represents the version number of the installer that you are using). Review your WNE administrative settings as needed (different settings need to be reviewed depending on how you intend to use the WNE website). Create your user accounts (you can also create additional accounts if needed later). Restart your WNE PC. Post-installation validation checks. Installation Procedure This installation process requires you to run the wneinstaller-4.1.x.exe file (where X represents the version number of the installer that you are using). A copy of this installer file should have been provided to you. If you receive WNE content via satelleite, a copy of this installer file will already have been downloaded to the following directory on your WNE PC: C:\Program Files\SkyStream Networks\zBand Corporate Edition\Storage\Reuters Updates\WNE Client 4.1 If you have not received this installer file, contact your Reuters representative to obtain it.
