Note: The Power/Activity LED will be on when a memory card is inserted into the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader. 4-pin USB Connector Figure 2: 4-pin USB Connector WARNING Note: The 4-pin USB Connector is keyed to plug into the 4-pin row of a USB Pin-out Header. Make sure that the Red wire is plugged into the +5VDC pin on the header. 3

Motherboard USB Pin-out Header The typical internal USB Pin-out Header found on motherboards consists of 9 pins arranged in 2 rows; each header provides 2 USB ports. Match up +5VDC (Pin 1) on the USB Cable Connector to Pin 1 or Pin 2 on the pin-out header. Please refer to your system's manual for proper connection. 2 1 10 9 Figure 4: Connecting 4-pin USB Connector to USB Pin-Out Header WARNING Note: Connecting the 4-pin USB Connector to your 4-pin row of a USB Pin-Out Header improperly will damage your system. See Figure 4 to connect it properly. Hardware Installation Important: In order for the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader to work properly, the driver of your existing USB host adapter must be installed properly. 1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and all connected peripheral devices. 5

2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer. 3. Remove the computer cover. 4. Select an available 3.5" drive bay for mounting the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader, remove the cover plate from the selected drive bay. Secure the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader to the drive bay by using the supplied mounting screws. 5. Connect the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader to the system's USB port. Refer to page 3-5 for details on the different connection methods. Driver Installation Windows will detect and install the drivers for the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader automatically. No additional driver is necessary. 6

To Verify Windows Installation 1. Check Device Manager to verify successful installation. Windows 7: Right click Computer, click Manage, then click Device Manager. Windows Vista: Right click Computer, click Manage, click Continue, then click Device Manager. Windows XP / Server 2003 / 2000: Right click My Computer, click Manage, then click Device Manager. Windows Server 2008: Right click Computer, click Manage, double click Diagnostics, then click Device Manager. 2. Double click Universal Serial Bus controllers, a USB Mass Storage Device should be displayed, in addition to others that may come with your system. 3. Double click Disk drives, and Generic USB Storage... should be displayed four times. 7

Using the Media Card Reader To prevent damage to the Reader/Writer or memory card, please read this section. Inserting Memory Cards For CompactFlash, MicroDrive, Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard (MMC), and SecureDigital (SD) insert with the top label facing up. For SmartMedia, insert with the gold pins facing up. Accessing Memory Cards For Windows 7: A Removable Disk icon will appear in Computer only when a memory card is inserted into the corresponding memory card slot. Otherwise, no Removable Disk icons will appear in Computer. If you prefer to have the disk icons appear, regardless, follow the steps below. 1. Double click Computer, click Organize, click Folder and search options. 2. Select the View tab, uncheck Hide empty drives in the Computer folder. 3. Click OK to save the changes. 8

For Vista / XP / Server 2003 & 2008 / 2000: When the USB 2.0 Bay Media Card Reader is successfully installed, four Removable Disk icons appear in Computer/My Computer. To access any one drive, double click the icon that corresponds to the inserted memory card. The memory card slots appear in the following order, CF/MicroDrive, SmartMedia, MultiMedia Card/ Secure Digital and Memory Stick respectively. Removing Memory Cards To prevent data loss, data corruption or memory card failure, please follow these guidelines. Do not remove memory cards while the Power/ Activity LED is FLASHING. 9
