Welcome to the Na onal Insurance Producer Registry s applications The give producers the ability to quickly and easily apply for a in a Resident or Non-Resident State (based upon their Resident State lines of authority) or renew an exis ng. A current list of states can be found on our webpage at: h ps:// www.nipr.com/html/nrl- Welcome.html If you need a in a state that is not accep ng the Electronic Non-Resident License Applica on, that state may accept the paper format of the Uniform Non-Resident License Applica on. This is detailed on pages 10-11 of this document. what you need For any applica on: Resident or Non-Resident, ini al or renewal; the requirements are the same. Hold an Ac ve Resident License in one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico Make applica on to one of the States accep ng the Electronic License applica on. Provide your Social Security Number (This is a required data field when comple ng the Non-Resident Uniform Applica on). Use a personal computer running one of the Windows 98/ NT/2000/XP opera ng systems and using one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 5.x or Netscape Communicator/Navigator 6.x or 7.x. Currently, Internet Explorer version 7.0 is not supported and your applica on MAY not be processed successfully if submi ed using this version. Lastly, your browser must support Javascript 1.2. Encryp on is in place and this is a secured site. Use one of the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express. 1

If this is your first me applying for a, or you are wan ng to renew your ; this will provide you with easy to follow instruc ons. If you meet the previously listed requirements, you may access the from our website at www.nipr.com in the Products and Services menu on the le hand side of the screen. Click on Ini al or Renewals depending if you are a Resident or a Non-Resident applicant. The Non-Resident and Resident homepages have the same format. Once on the application homepage, you will see the announcements and requirements for the applica on, as well as a menu with different op ons. From this menu, you can access: State Specific Requirements, Instruc ons, Fees, Frequently Asked Ques ons and Contact Informa on. By clicking on State Specific Requirements, you will find the most recent list of states accep ng the Electronic applica on and you can also view state rules. This will prove especially useful when applying for a Business En ty License. Most of your ques ons can be answered by clicking on the FAQs link, but if you have addi onal ques ons please use the Contact Us link. Here you will find telephone numbers if you have technical problems. You will also find contact informa on for the specific states should you have to provide supplements to the applica on. Now you are ready to begin the applica on, click Begin. This will take you to the Use Agreement, which must be agreed to in order to proceed. 2

Enter the corresponding number (which is case sensi ve) 3. You will need to select whether this applica on is for an individual or business en ty Non-Resident Licensing Resident Licensing The above informa on is verified against the Na onal Insurance Producer Registry s Producer Database (PDB). If your is in good standing in your resident state, you will be taken to the following: Click to the box to the le of the state(s) to which you are applying and click Next. 3

Here you will select the License type and Lines of Authority you wish to apply for. Pay special a en on to any notes. Notes will generally appear in regards to Variable Contracts or Business En ty. Also, if the lines of authority for which you qualify do not properly display, please discon nue the applica- on and contact Customer Service at (855) 674-NIPR (6477) or customerservice@nipr.com. Click Next and a dialogue box will appear sta ng If applying for Variable Product, you must also hold or make applica on for Life Line of Authority. Verify that you have applied for the correct Lines of Authority and click OK on the dialogue box. The next screen will give you an itemized summary. Fees are as follows: State fees = determined by each state individually Non Resident License - Ini al = $6.18 Resident License - Ini al = $ 5.00 Non Resident License - Renewal = $ 5.00 Resident License - Renewal = $ 5.00 Please be aware that all fees are non-refundable. Fees are not dependent on approval or denial of applica on. Once you have agreed to the fees, click Next. A dialogue box will appear sta ng, If you are sure your class and LOA selec ons are correct, click OK. These fees are non-refundable. 4

Once you are sure, click OK, this will take you to the Uniform Applica on. You will no ce that some of the informa on on the applica on is already populated. This informa on is being supplied to NIPR by your resident state(s) Department of Insurance. If any of this informa on is incorrect, please discon nue the applica on and contact your resident state Department of Insurance to verify the informa on they are supplying. Enter your Social Security Number. If this differs from what the resident state is supplying, it will result in the applica on being declined. If you are applying for a variable product, you will need to enter your NASD CRD number. This is not necessary if you are not applying for variable products. Con nue with the applica on. All fields with a red asterisk are required. Upon entering an email address, a dialogue box will appear asking you to verify the email address. This is how the status of your applica on will be communicated to you. Only one email address can be entered at this me. You will have the opportunity to enter addi onal email addresses at the end of the applica on. 5

List any other assumed fic ous, alias, maiden or trade names which you have used in the past. Complete Agency or Business En ty Affilia ons sec on only if the applicant is to be d as an ac ve member of the business en ty. Click Next and you will be asked to provide your Employment History for the past five years. You will also need to answer Background ques ons. If you answer yes to any of the background ques ons, you may have to provide suppor ng documenta on to the state Department of Insurance. You will receive an email detailing the requested informa on and where to send it. 6

Lastly, you will need to review and agree to the Applicants Cer fica on and A esta on. This is required and will serve as your signature. If you are comple ng the applica on for yourself, check the box next to Producer and proceed to the next step. If you are comple ng the applica on on behalf of someone else, please check the box next to Authorized Submi er and provide your contact informa on. 7

You are now done with the applica on. The only thing that remains is paying for the transac on. This page will again give you the total for the transac ons. You will need to enter the following: Card Type: Visa, MasterCard, or American Express Account Number Expira on Date Name on Credit Card Check the yes box if you are authorized to use this credit card A dialogue box will appear sta ng: By submi ng this informa on, I am authorizing the Na onal Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) to process fees via the credit card informa on provided. I acknowledge that the respec ve State(s) will accept or decline this applica on and that ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Click OK, if you agree. Once the transac on has been approved, you will receive a reference number. You will then need to confirm the credit card informa on and click Next to process your credit card transac on. 8

Examples of the types of e-mails you might get You will receive an email no fying you whether your applica on was accepted or not, or if it was sent to the State for review. Examples of the emails that you might get are below: You will receive this e-mail when an applica on is accepted. The paper copy of the will be sent to you from the respec- ve State Department of Insurance by mail. You will receive the following email when the transac on has been sent to the state for review: This is an example of the email you might receive if you answer YES to any of the background ques ons. 9 If the e-mail does not state where to send the informa- on, please refer to the Contact Us sec on on the Electronic Non-Resident Licensing homepage, h p://www.nipr.com/ html/nrlwelcome.html This will give you address and/or FAX informa on for the specific states. Please reference you NIPR transac on number when supplying addi onal informa on to the states.

paper non-resident licensing The NAIC Uniform Applica on allows for individuals and business en es to apply for s through the use of a single form. This form may be photocopied, to help speed up the process when applying in mul ple states. Please note that each applica on will need an original signature. You can access the applica on from the NIPR homepage at: www.nipr. com on the Paper Licensing category at the le. This page will give you an up-to-date lis ng of states that are accep ng at least one form of the Uniform Applica on. By clicking on a state shaded in green, you will see which forms they are accep ng. Not all states accept the Uniform Applica on, so you will need to reference the appropriate State s Matrix of Business Rules. This page will also give you the respec ve states requirements and fees for non-resident licensure. Many of the ques ons about this process can be answered by clicking on the link General Guidelines and FAQ s and. Here you will find general informa on and frequently asked ques ons regarding the Uniform Applica ons. 10

You can access the applica on by clicking on Uniform Applica ons. There are two, one for individual and one for business en ty. There are also two formats you can download, Word or PDF. For illustra on purposes, we will use Illinois. This shows you that Illinois is accep ng both the individual and Business applica on. By clicking on either link, you will find the state specific requirements for that class. For illustra on purposes, we will use the individual requirements. Here you will find the state specific requirements for Non-Resident licensing. It will include informa on pertaining to: financial responsibility, addi onal documents, fees, address, etc. You can also download the applica on from this page. IMPORTANT: If you have ques ons rela ng to these state specific requirements, you will need to contact the Department of Insurance for that state. Contact informa on can be found under the heading of Specific Ques ons? Please Contact: In most cases, you will find telephone numbers and e-mail addresses to the states licensing division. You will also need to contact the state Department of Insurance if you need to obtain state specific forms. NIPR populates the State Matrix of Business Rules with informa on provided directly from par cipa ng state insurance departments. Par cipa ng states are encouraged to provide updated informa on when appropriate. NIPR does not guarantee the completeness, accuracy or adequacy of the informa on in the State Matrix.
