Course Description Distracted Driving the biggest issue in driving today. This session will emphasize the magnitude of the distracted driving problem, the current laws in place, and weaknesses in prevention efforts. We ll also explore the effectiveness of existing solutions and if new technologyisahelporahindrance.
Learning Objectives Participants will: Learn about what can make a driver distracted, the problems distracted driving presents, and how those problems can affect the health, safety, and welfare of the community at large. Review the laws presently in place, their weaknesses, and resources for developing your own distracted driving policy to prevent accidental injury or death and/or property damage. Understand how reaction time is affected, why attitude is important, and how possible preventive measures can protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public in general. Consider newer vehicle technology and its impact on the public s health, safety, and welfare.

Weaknesses in Prevention Efforts Legislation focuses on banning only handheld phones or only texting while driving. State law and many employer policies allow hands-free cell phone use.
