freedom for YOU!

freedom for YOU! gives YOU the ability to collect, store and share travel information with security and ease, all in one place...

...because you want the freedom to spend more time doing the things that YOU love.

Problem statement. Travelers need a way to collect store and share travel information securely, all in one place. The ability to do this will save them time which gives them the freedom to do the things they love. I identified that travelers use multiple touch points to do a number of tasks like collecting research, storing important documents, saving booked tickets and sharing this information with travel partners or loved ones at home. Tripwallet resolves this by giving them a place to store, access and share all this information in and from one place. Offline accessibility was also key in creating an app that allows travelers to access the valuable information they need to GET UP AND GO!

User research.

User surveys. On conducting surveys with travelers it was determined that overwhelmingly they were relying on email to store and share travel information despite the existence of apps for this purpose. Tools used for storing Tools used for sharing Email Google docs Trip case Tripit Email Telephone Apps Pen and paper Stone tablet

User interviews. Three travelers were interviewed with varying needs and they had this to say. The amount of things you have to pull together is quite a lot and it seems insane that you can t access all of that very easily. Sometimes if you land in a foreign country and don t have internet access it can be a pain trying to retrieve important documents. My family do a get full itinerary but as you know when you copy and paste it out of a website into an email it looks really terrible. Annabel. Sasha. Jane. Let s have a closer look at their frustrations and goals.

Annabel. Avid traveler. The amount of things you have to pull together is quite a lot and it seems insane that you can t access all of that very easily Marital status: Single Occupation: Graphic Designer Age: 43 Frustrations Finds the insurance industry s technology antiquated Has to use more than one touch point to store information Find sharability not user friendly Goals To store passport and other important documents in one place To share an itinerary with loved ones To share ticket and accommodation information with a travel partner To access all information in one place To get alerts for transport A better way of accessing travel insurance Summary Annabel is a single, busy, skilled professional aged 43 who likes to travel with family and friends. As her trips are often short she finds that collecting, collating and sharing the required information is very time consuming in comparison to the length of the actual trip. She would like to be able to store all relevant information in once place and be able to access the information of choice with ease or as she says the click of a button. Time efficiency is of great importance to her.

Sasha. Intrepid adventurer. Sometimes if you land in a foreign country and don t have internet access it can be a pain trying to retrieve important documents Marital status: Defacto Occupation: IT Age: 36 Frustrations Offline access to accommodation is a problem Compiling, accessing and sharing wish lists is an issue Sharability of all info is time consuming and inefficient Goals To store passport and other important documents in one place To share travel wish lists with his travel partner To share ticket and accommodation information with a travel partner To access all information in one place To share his itinerary with loved ones at home Summary Sasha is a 36 year old IT professional who travels as much as he can whenever he can, usually with his partner. He needs to collect and share information about travel prior to and during the trip with his travel partner. This information includes important travel documents as well as the extensive research involved in planning a trip. He currently uses gmail and google calendar to store all the documents but is lacking a user friendly resource for lists of fun things to do along the way. He also finds not being able to access his stored information offline is a problem.

Jane. English expat. My family do a get full itinerary but as you know when you copy and paste it out of a website into an email it looks really terrible Marital status: Married Occupation: Studio Manager Age: 49 Frustrations Sometimes it takes a while to get internet ready when arriving in the UK She has to organise another human and wants to check up on his travel progress because she worries She keeps sightseeing research in her head and she forgets things Her itinerary is hard to decipher when copied and pasted Goals To store passport, emergency, health information and other important documents in one place To share travel itineraries with family in the UK To share ticket and accommodation information with her husband who she books for To collect ideas for visitors easily Summary Jane is a 49 year old English expat who travels frequently from Australia to the UK for important family events. Although she lives abroad she is very close to her family and they like to keep up to speed on exact arrival and departure times. Due to owning two gorgeous pups her and her husband tend to travel separately so one is at home with the doggos. Jane does all the booking for her husband. He s disorganised. Despite being a very organised person Jane wishes there was a way to be secure that her family had access to her itinerary and emergency information. She also wishes there was an easier way to organise Mark for his trips. Jane makes very silly faces in photos.

Findings. Google docs and email ticked the most boxes for travelers needs despite not being travel specific tools. This makes their interfaces and locating information more complicated than a travel specific tool should be. Tripit stood out as having the most useful features in an app but the interface is still complicated due to housing too many features and not appearing user friendly. Nothing in market currently meets all travelers needs. None of the tools interfaces were particularly aesthetic despite their usability.

User flows. Travelers need a happy path for accessing and sharing important things like flight details with travel partners and loved ones. Testing.

Paper prototype testing. I tested lo-fi wireframes on my target audience and discovered that users needed to access emergency information without drilling down too far, but also that another set of information could live under one umbrella, thus making the home screen less complex. The complexity of competitors interfaces was a key concern that arose out of my interviews and competitor analysis so I addressed these by reorganising my site map.

Sitemap. The sitemap was simplified so the app is split into two distinct areas. When I tested my prototype I got some great insights. I tested hi-fi wireframes on my target audience using my clickable prototype with great results. My users followed all of my designed pathways without prompting and were excited by the idea of being able to perform these functions with ease. They found the simplicity of the interface and iconography really helpful. One user said that even her mum could use it.

Key changes. Testing proved that pictures are more universal than words which supports iconography being a clear focus. Icons were chosen that give users ease of navigation as well as giving the app it s personality. Destination icons were added and a style carefully selected style that was in line with current trends. Numbers replaced exclamation marks for the message alerts. Because my users navigated perfectly through the happy path I was able to focus on small details like icon size and style.

Next steps. Investigating the collecting, storing and sharing of things to do whilst traveling. Analyising where access to an in-app camera function would be most beneficial.
