Please see the configuration section at the end of the document to complete your installation. 4

CHAPTER LASERFORM 9 INSTALLATION GUIDE 2.2 Client/Server Installation If you intend to setup Laserform 9 centrally from a server then the installation process will be in two parts: 1. Install Laserform 9 server-side components. 2. Install the client application on each PC. Please ensure you have sufficient permissions to install Laserform 9. Refer to section 2.4 for further information. 2.2.1 Server Installation The server installation requires only an LFM9 directory to exist on your server containing the necessary files and folders. For ease of install, we have included an LFM9 directory with your installation files. 1. Take a copy of the LFM9 directory from your installation files. 2. Paste the directory to your desired location on your server. 3. Check that the Laserform LFM9 folder is shared out to enable all client PC s to connect to the server. Please remember that the Technical Support Team is only able to offer advice on this portion of the installation, it is up to each company to ensure adequate resources are available to carry out the file sharing. 2.2.2 Client Installation You now need to visit each client PC which you need Laserform on, by carrying out the instructions below: 1. Double Click Setup.exe on your media to begin installation. 2. Click OK to install Laserform V9. 3. Review the License Agreement and select Yes to accept it. 4. Input your Name and Company Name, and select the option to install for anyone who users this computer (all users). 5. Select the Setup Type Client. 6. Select Next and then Install to begin the installation. 5

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE 9. An LFM icon will be visible on your desktop, double click on it to start Laserform. Note: Please see Section 5 for advanced installation methods including Group Policy roll out. 2.3 Terminal Server Installation Due to the complexity and expertise needed to install applications on Terminal Server, these notes do not provide a step by step set of instructions on installing Laserform 9. Rather, they concentrate on identifying the key issues to be aware of during installation and how the whole process should be approached. In most cases once you have reviewed these notes then reading section 2.2 should be sufficient to step through the two installations. However, if you are unsure then please contact the Laserform Support Team for further assistance: Please refer to the Local and Network Share Permissions section for guidance on setting up the correct permissions environment Laserform 9 has been successfully installed on Citrix Winframe and Metaframe environments but because these notes are written as general guidelines for Terminal Server installations some of the terminology may be slightly different for Citrix users 2.3.1 Installing the Laserform 9 Client on the Terminal Server Before reviewing the installation notes available on the Laserform 9 CD, it is important to clarify that the terminology in these notes is based around a traditional client / server environment. Having said that however, the basic installation procedure for Terminal Server is similar in that there still has to be two distinct installations of Laserform 9; the Network Installation, which holds all the shared resources (e.g. the databases and form files) and the Client Installation which holds all the program files needed to launch the Laserform 9 application. 6

CHAPTER LASERFORM 9 INSTALLATION GUIDE Both these installations need to be installed to physically separate locations within your Terminal Server environment otherwise Laserform 9 will not function correctly. 2.4 Local Permissions Standalone Installation Users will require Modify permissions to all the LFM 9 folders. Client Installation Users will require Modify permissions to the ExplorerCache and Upgrade folders. Please note the following default installation paths for Laserform 9: LFM 9 Folder Default Path Upgrade C:\ProgramData\Laserform\LFM9\LFM_Upgrade (Windows 7/Windows 8) ExplorerCache C:\ProgramData\Laserform\LFM9\ExplorerCache (Windows 7/Windows 8) All other folders C:\ProgramData\Laserform\LFM9 (Windows 7/Windows 8) 2.4.1 Network Share Permissions You may wish to lock down permissions for users, to prevent them from making adverse changes which affect other users. In order to simplify the complex issue of network permissions, users of Laserform 9 have been split into two categories, basic users and administrators: 7

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE Basic User It is envisioned that users of this level will only require sufficient access to open forms, fill them in, save and print. They will be able to view and select Local Authority and Court details but will be unable to make any changes to the database. Therefore, basic users will require Modify permissions to the Dbase and LFData folders but only Read permissions to the Expandables, Explorer, FormHelp, Layouts, Lforms, LFM_Upgrade, PrtForms and Templates folders. Within the Dbase folder the Database files should be set to Read only, but they must be able to write and modify within the Dbase folder. Administrators It is envisioned that users of this level will be able to carry out all the functions of a basic user, plus a number of key administrative tasks, which include: Installing new or updated forms Maintaining Practice details Creating and assigning Clauses Amending Local Authority and Court details Customising the Forms Explorer Add Custom Form Templates Therefore, administrators will require Modify permissions to all the Laserform 9 folders. Please note, references to Administrator in this context should not be confused with Network Administrators who generally have Full Control of all files. 8

Print out a PDF Proof document 2. SaveAs PDF 3. Email as PDF You can use other PDF Printers to print to if you just want to print the Laserform itself, you just won t have the advanced functionality stated above. In order to use the PDF functionality of Laserform 9 it will be necessary to install PDF995 as per the following instructions: 12

CHAPTER CONFIGURATION 1. Browse to the Products folder on your CD or download 2. Open the PDF995 folder 3. Run the autosetup which will silently install the necessary PDF995 components for PDF creation in Laserform (this will be a silent install and should take less than 1 minute) 13

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE 5 Advanced Installations Laserform V9 can be rolled out using various methods to allow deployment to multiple client machines. This gives you, as a Network Administrator, a perfect way to distribute V9 to all of your clients without the need for users to be involved or indeed the need to visit each machine. This document has been specifically written for Laserform 9.5 and above. If you are upgrading to an earlier version of Laserform (such as 9.4), we recommend speaking to the Laserform Support Team first for advice. 5.1 MSI Installations The MSI file required is called Laserform.msi, and is located within X:\Products\ - Where X:\ is the location of the CD drive. Important Notes: We no longer supply the Laserform-RO.msi, as provided with previous versions of 9.4. This is no longer needed as we have now incorporated the features of the Laserform-RO.msi into the standard Laserform.msi. The LFM_SERVER_ROOT property name has now changed to LFM_SERVER_PATH See below. The table below outlines the important MSI properties that control the Laserform installation: Property Name INSTALLDIR Description Contains the destination folder for the Laserform program files Default = C:\Program Files\Laserform\LFM9 Possible Values 14

CHAPTER ADVANCED INSTALLATIONS INSTALLLEVEL DBASE_FOLDER LFM_SERVER_PAT H LFM_DMS_APP Value to indicate which features will be installed. This controls the type of installation applied Default = 300 When installing a Laserform client, this value indicates the full path to the Laserform Dbase folder. A full path to the Dbase folder on the server must be specified, and UNC paths are permitted This is different to pre 9.4 versions which required the root of the Laserform folder. This is the location of the root of the Laserform folder (No backslash is required, UNC paths are allowed). LFM9.4 and above now uses the LFMAdd32 database to find the path locations. If no paths exist in the database, then it will use this location instead (located in the registry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Laserform\LFM 9) DMS Integration Mode If used, this adds a key to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, called LFM32\ODMA32 with default value [LFM_DMS_APP] 100 (Client) 200 (Server) 300 (Standalone) MHODMA (Interwoven / IManage) PCDOCS (Hummingbir d / OpenText) Notes: All other built-in MSI properties are available and can be set to your needs. Please ensure you assign sufficient permissions to run LFM9. Refer to the Local and Network Share Permissions section in the Installation and Upgrade guide.pdf document on the LFM9 CD for further information. 15

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE 5.1.1 Deployment Recommendations When carrying out a client installation, we recommend that you transform the MSI package before deployment. Set the DBASE_FOLDER, INSTALLLEVEL and LFM_SERVER_PATH properties accordingly using your chosen transformation mechanism. If editing the MSI file directly (Using a product such as ORCA) Two new rows will need to be created in the property table, one with the property DBASE_FOLDER and value [Dbase folder location on server], the other property LFM_SERVER_PATH and value [Root Laserform location]. The INSTALLLEVEL property will also need to be changed from 300 to 100 5.1.2 Laserform V9 Upgrades If you are upgrading using the MSI, any existing LFM9 installation packages will need to be removed first. Previous versions of Laserform which were installed via an MSI can be removed using the following command(s): - Msiexec /uninstall PATHTOINSTALLSOURCE\Laserform.msi /quiet OR Msiexec /uninstall {659D157E-7DCB-46E3-B21D-8BE253635A7D} /quiet Note: If using the standard Setup.exe, removal of both Install Shield and MSI installs are automatically taken care of. 16

CHAPTER ADVANCED INSTALLATIONS 5.1.3 Command Line Options It is possible to deploy MSI packages without a specific rollout mechanism (such as Group Policy or SMS), by using command line options for both initial installations, repairs and upgrades: Windows Installer To invoke the Windows Installer you need to run the following tool. msiexec.exe MSI Package Location Use this parameter to tell the Windows Installer where the MSI package is. /i <full path> Note The path must end in a \ character User Interface Mode The user interface can be suppressed, which is often the purpose of using this command line method. /q<option> Possible Values for <option> No User interface n Just progress bar b 17

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE Public Properties Properties within the MSI package can be set via the command line to control the behaviour of the installation. Target Directory INSTALLDIR= <full path> Setup Type Please note this should normally be kept as the default 100 (for client installations) when deploying firm wide, unless a rollout is required for standalone installations - Therefore would not normally need to be specified. INSTALLLEVEL=<value> Possible Values for <value> Standalone 300 Server 200 Client 100 Location of Server DBASE_FOLDER= <full path to Dbase folder on server> Note This must contain the full path to the DBase folder of the Laserform server directory structure. The path must end in a \ character LFM_SERVER_PATH= <full path to Laserform network files> 18

CHAPTER ADVANCED INSTALLATIONS Note - This must contain the full path to the folder of the Laserform server directory structure, typically this is a folder containing the Dbase, Explorer, LForms folders. Examples The following are typical MSI command lines. Standalone Install msiexec.exe /q /i"c:\laserform.msi" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\Laserform\Laserform\" INSTALLLEVEL=300 Server Install msiexec.exe /q /i"c:\laserform.msi" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\Laserform\Laserform\" INSTALLLEVEL=200 Client Install (and suppress dialogue boxes) msiexec.exe /qn /i"c:\laserform.msi" INSTALLLEVEL=100 DBASE_FOLDER=\\SERVER\Laserform\DBASE LFM_SERVER_PATH= \\SERVER\Laserform Silent Removal of Laserform Msiexec /uninstall C:\Laserform.msi /quiet 5.2 Setup.exe Installations / Upgrades Running the Setup.exe file manually will allow Laserform to be installed if no previous version is already installed, or upgraded to the current version if an older version is detected. It is now possible to carry out this process silently. Within the installation folder there should be 4 files:- Laserform.msi Setup.exe Setup.ini Lfm8unst.log 19

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE Adding the following properties within the Setup.ini file will allow this setup file to be run silently:- Property Name UseIniSettings InstallLevel InstallDir ServerPath LogLocation Description Allows the Laserform Setup.exe to be run silently and use the ini file settings. Value to indicate which features will be installed. This controls the type of installation applied. Allows Laserform to be installed to a directory other than the default c:\program files\laserform\lfm9 Root location of the Laserform server directory. A backslash is required at the end of the path. Setup.exe can be instructed to write a log file, to this location. Possible Values Yes 100 (Client) 300 (Standalone) These settings need to be added to the Setup.ini file, and then Setup.exe will need to be run with a /s switch. Setup.exe must be in the same folder as the Laserform.msi and Setup.ini files Example To install Laserform V9 within a client environment, where it s to be installed to C:\Program Files\Laserform, the server is located under \\Server\LFM9, and a log file is to be written to C:\, the following would need to be added to the setup.ini file: - UseIniSettings=Yes InstallLevel=100 InstallDir=C:\Program Files\Laserform\Laserform ServerPath=\\Server\LFM9\ LogLocation=C:\Log.txt 20

CHAPTER ADVANCED INSTALLATIONS 5.3 Upgrading using LFM_Upgrade System Administrators may not wish to visit each machine in order to upgrade Laserform; therefore we have provided a feature for all machines to be upgraded to the latest version of Laserform by simply copying some special update files to your server. When Laserform is subsequently launched, the upgrade will be applied automatically - Please allow up to 5 minutes for Laserform to launch after the update has been applied and do not try launching for a second time otherwise the update may not be successful. It may appear that Laserform is not responding, however this is normal while the update is processed. Please read the following before proceeding: The instructions below should only be carried out where all machines on your network have already been upgraded to a minimum of Laserform 9.4.1 Build 31. This method of deployment is not advised where machines are locked down, and recommend using one of the alternative deployment methods mentioned above, i.e. using Group Policy. The upgrade will only apply where Laserform is configured in a client / network configuration. Each user must have local administrator privileges to install the upgrade patch files. Each user must have write and modify access to the location C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Laserform\LFM9\Upgrade Allow up to 5 minutes for Laserform to launch after applying the update on the server and do not try launching Laserform twice if it appears to not be responding. Instructions 1. Locate the folder called LFM_Upgrade on your server. Typically this is located within a share on your server, such as L:\LFM9\LFM_Upgrade or \\Server\LFM9\LFMUpgrade\. If you re unsure, click tools > options > paths tab (This folder resides in the same folder as the Dbase, Explorer and LForms folders). 2. Copy the following 4 files in the LFM_Upgrade folder from your media to the LFM_Upgrade folder on your server. 21

LASERFORM INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE GUIDE LFMUpgrade.exe LFMUpgradeUtil.exe ServerVersion.txt LFMAction**.exe Once this is done, running Laserform on a client machine connected to the correct server should perform the upgrade, and the user will be prompted to wait while Laserform upgrades. 22
