Carefully unpack the shipping boxes and locate these components: ES24 Expansion Shelf ES24 Bezel Set of rackmount rails Up to 24 drive trays populated with drives Two3-meterMiniSASHDtoMiniSASHDcablesandone serial cable Two2IECC13toNEMA5-15Ppowercords 1.1 Become Familiar With the ES24 TheES24hasfrontpanelbuttonsforpowerandalarmmute,andindicatorsforpower,locateID,andfault. The faultindicatorisonduringtheinitialpower-onself-test(post)orwhenthetruenas softwarehasissuedanalert (https://support.ixsystems.com/truenasguide/tn_options.html#alert). 1

The connectors and features on each module are: 1-2: Redundant power supplies 3-4: Fans 5-7: HD Mini SAS3 connectors 8: Serial port 1.2 Rail Kit Assembly 1.2.1 Remove Cabinet Rails from Rack Rails Extendthecabinetrailuntilitstops.Toremovethecabinetrail,pressthewhitereleasetabtotherightwhilepullingthe cabinet rail. 1.2.2 Mount Cabinet Rails Thecabinetrailsaremountedonbothsidesofthesystem.Alignthecabinetrailkeyholeswiththethreepostsontheside ofthechassisandpulltherailuntilthepostiswedgedinthesmallerhole. 2
Aligntherailholeswiththescrewholesandsecuretherailwithoneofthesuppliedcabinetscrewsincludedwiththerailkit. Repeat this process on the other side. 1.2.3 Mount the Rack Rails Placetherailintherackwiththefrontendtowardthefrontoftherack,aligningthepinswiththemountingholesinthe frontoftherack.pushthepinsintotheholesuntilthelatchclicks. Placeonesquarecagenutwiththetabsverticalintothefrontoftherack,directlybelowthetoprailpin.Repeatthisprocess ontheotherfrontrail.thecagenutswilllatersupportthescrewsusedtosecuretheenclosuretotherack. Fortherearendoftherail,alignthepinswiththemountingholesontherearrack.Pullthewhitelatchtowardtherearuntil thepinsclickinplace.repeatthisprocessforthesecondrearrail. 1.2.4MounttheUnitintheRack Caution: Two people are required to safely lift the chassis for rack installation or removal. Do not install drives until afterthechassishasbeeninstalledintherack,andremovealldrivesbeforeremovingthechassisfromtherack. Pullthefrontrackrailforwarduntilitstops.Alignthecabinetrailwiththeinsideofthefrontrackrailandslidethecabinet railforwarduntilitisfullyseatedinsidetherackrail.repeattheprocessforthesecondrail. Whenbothcabinetrailsaresecuredinsideoftherackrails,gentlypushthechassisuntilitstopshalfwayin.Slidetheblue releasetabsonbothcabinetrailstowardthefrontofthesystemwhilepushingtheunitinuntilitisflushwiththefrontof the rack. 3
Anchortheunitintherackonbothsideswiththescrewsincludedintherailkit. 1.3 Install Drive Trays Drivetraysareusedtomountdrivesinthearray.EachdrivetrayhasastatusLEDwhichisbluewhenactiveoramberifa fault has occurred. Pressthesilverbuttontoopenthelatch.Carefullyslidethetrayintoadrivebayuntiltherightsideofthelatchtouchesthe metalfrontedgeofthechassis,thengentlyswingthelatchcloseduntilitclicksintoplace. 4
1.4 Connect Power Cords Donotplugthepowercordsintoapoweroutletyet.Connectapowercordtothebackofonepowersupply.Place thecordintotheplasticclampandpressthetabintothelatchtolockitinplace.repeattheprocessforthesecondpower supply and cord. 1.5 Connect SAS Cables PlugtheES24powercordsintopoweroutlets.Waittwominutesforthedrivestostart. Note: TheTrueNAS UnifiedArraycanremainonwhiletheexpansionshelfisconnected. ConnectanSAScablefromES24expansionmodule1SAS0connectortothefarthestleftZseriesnode1SASconnector (cable#1 in photo). IftheZserieshasasecondnodeforHA(HighAvailability),connectasecondSAScablefromES24expansionmodule2SAS 0connectortothefarthestleftZseriesnode2SASconnector(cable#2inphoto). AsecondES24canalsobeconnectedtotheZseries.ConnectthefirstES24asshownabove.ThenconnectthesecondES24 SAS0portstothenextunusedSASportsontheZseriesasshown: Fig.3:SASCableConnectionforTwoES24s After all SAS cables have been connected, plug the Z series power cords into power outlets. 1.6 Install Bezel(Optional) Theincludedbezelisnotrequiredforoperation.Ifdesired,installthebezelbyaligningitwiththepinsonthebezelearsand pressing it into place. 6
