Shifting to Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Shifting towards SCP is about real change: protecting our planet, Today more than ever, in a context of economic crisis, increasing environmental degradation and climate change, it has become clear that our global community urgently needs to adopt more sustainable patterns of consumption and production, to reduce the use of natural resources and CO2 emissions as well as to eradicate poverty. We need a systemic change to move towards resource efficient and sustainable lifestyles. With the participation of all, from governments to the business sector, civil society and citizens, the shift towards SCP is a real opportunity to trigger innovation, identify opportunities and creative solutions that can bring about prosperity and well being for present and future generations. Promoting SCP is fundamental: it means doing more and better with less, decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation, promoting resource and energy efficiency, providing sustainable infrastructure and access to basic services and affordable sustainable products, while creating green jobs. It inspires and enables a better quality of life for all. To address these challenges, the international community has adopted the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on SCP (10YFP) at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20 (Rio+20). The Global SCP Clearinghouse will serve as the information hub of the 10YFP, supporting its implementation through knowledge sharing to enable cooperation with participation of all. using our resources more efficiently, increasing quality of life for all. The 10YFP is a global framework for action that will enhance international cooperation to develop, replicate and scale up SCP and resource efficiency initiatives at national and regional level. The 10YFP will help decouple environmental degradation and resource use from economic growth, increasing the net contribution of economic activities to poverty eradication and social development. The 10YFP provides capacity-building and facilitates access to technical and financial assistance to developing countries, and encourages innovation and cooperation among all stakeholders. Want to know more about the 10YFP? Visit www.unep.org/10yfp Sharing knowledge, building synergies and cooperation For many years, policy-makers and practitioners from all regions have been developing initiatives and tools that contribute to SCP. A lot has happened and many have engaged, but the existing information on SCP is fragmented, and it is not being used effectively. In a world of both scattered and overflowing information, sharing knowledge, building synergies and strengthening cooperation at all levels is essential to replicate, scale up and inspire constructive ideas, initiatives and opportunities. The goal of the Global SCP Clearinghouse is to make this happen. Real change can only happen if we join forces.

The Global SCP Clearinghouse: you are one click away from SCP! UNEP, as Secretariat of the 10YFP, is convening the Global SCP Clearinghouse which serves as the one-stop hub bringing together the SCP community worldwide. This harmonized and dynamic information and knowledge sharing platform aims to trigger more innovation and cooperation towards SCP implementation. The Global SCP Clearinghouse is targeted at governments, the business sector, researchers, civil society, mass media, among other actors. It covers all themes and sectors relevant to SCP as well as all regions. The Global SCP Clearinghouse builds on and links to many existing websites and portals, providing new and interactive functions to strengthen cooperation and inspire more action for SCP.
