About Handshake Handshake is a cutting-- edge online platform that empowers career services, students, and employers to network and connect with each other on a new level. This intuitive, modern software is created to breakdown barriers that have kept students from gaining access to their potential dream jobs. Revised 09/2015

Understanding the Handshake Navigation Toolbar Profile: Shows your profile that is viewable to the student body Students Tab Manage: Access to all student profiles as well as the ability to review uploaded documents. Applications: Access to all students applications for positions listed within Handshake. You can also view the documents that students used when applying. Communications Tab Mass Emails: Utilize Handshake to send mass emails to select groups of students by school or label. Schedule Tab Events: See a list of all events offered by schools you are associated with. Fairs: See a list of all Career Fairs hosted by Pepperdine that you are associated with and can register for. Appointments: Add or cancel appointments with the Seaver College Career Center Industry Specialists Postings Tab Jobs: See a list of all jobs listed within the Handshake system that have been approved, are in progress, or pending posting with Pepperdine. *Use Status filtering option to access all approved, pending, in progress, or expired positions. Interviews: See a list of all interviews set up by employers at Pepperdine. Register students for interview slots. Relationships Tab Employers: See a list of all employers listed within the Handshake system that have been approved, are in progress, pending, or have been declined with Pepperdine. *Use filter options to access employers needing approval. Contacts: See a list of all individuals who are associated as a point of contact for postings made by employers. Data Tab Analytics: See a snapshot of student activity within Handshake Reports: Run reports regarding student engagement, applications, unique employers, postings, on-campus employment, etc. Surveys: Create surveys for students/schools to answer. 2

Creating an Account in Handshake 1. Go to Handshake at https://pepperdine.joinhandshake.com (Go to Step 2) OR Go to Wavenet Click on the Student Services Tab Select Jobs by Handshake(Go to Step 2 ) 2. Select Your Pepperdine Wavenet ID 3. Enter in your Wavenet credentials. 4. You will be asked several questions targeted to help you build out your profile. 5. Once complete, you will be brought to your student dashboard. 4

1. Log into Handshake 2. Click on Profile How to Upload Documents in Handshake 2. Select Documents 3. Select New Document 4. Fill in the following fields: Name: Name your Document Name the document something simple and informative. Ex. MGonzales Resume Document Type: Select what document type you are uploading. Public? : Check the box if you would like the document to be publicly viewable. Document: Upload your document here. Note: Please upload ONLY PDFs. They will maintain your formatting. Description: Write a brief description of your document so that you will know what the document was created for. 5

5. Select Create Document 6. All documents submitted will go into a pending status until they are approved by a member of the Seaver College Career Center team. Be on the lookout for any messages or emails regarding your document approval or decline. 7. Once approved, you will be able to upload your document and use it to apply for jobs. 6

1. Log into pepperdine.joinhandshake.com 2. On the left panel, click on Jobs. Searching for Internships and Jobs 3. You can use the Search box at the top left. 4. You can input a location using the Location box. The example includes Los Angeles and setting the radius of miles willing to travel that can be adjusted, which automatically filters positions. 5. You can also click the boxes for Internship or Job, and the system automatically filters opportunities for you. 6. Underneath that, there is an opportunity to put in Part-- time, Full-- time, and Seasonal to aid in your search. Click the desired boxes, and the system automatically filters opportunities for you. 7. Once you have entered the search criteria information that you want, if you want to save that particular search to automatically populate when you enter the system, click the Plus Sign. 8. Then, a box appears on the screen with Save Current Search 9. Enter a Name for the Saved Search, then click Save. Then, every time you log in and click on Jobs, it pulls up positions that match exactly what you re looking for. You can also have multiple Saved Searches, too. 7

How to Schedule an Appointment 1. Login to Handshake-- http://pepperdine.joinhandshake.com 2. Select Events 3. Select Request an Appointment tab at the top right. 4. Select an appointment category based on your need and area of interest and school. 8

5. Select specific appointment type. 6. Use arrows to browse for staff availability. 7. Make sure you book with the right industry specialist per their interest and school this will happen automatically, but do a double check. 8. Select the date/time that works for your schedule. 9. Fill in the Appointment Request details: a. Appointment Medium: How do you want the meeting to occur. b. What can we help you with?: Describe why you need an appointment. 10. Hit Create at the bottom of the page. 9

How to Cancel an Appointment 1. Login to Handshake-- http://pepperdine.joinhandshake.com 2. Select Events 3. Select your Upcoming Appointment 4. Select the red CANCEL button. 5. If given the option, please provide a reasoning for Cancel and sign up for a new appointment. 10

How to Apply for a Job 1. Log into pepperdine.joinhandshake.com 2. On the left panel, click on Jobs. 3. You can use the Search box at the top left. 4. You can input a location using the Location box. A box will pop up that will let you know what documents are required to apply for the position. 10. Using the first drop-- down box, select the required documents for applying. NOTE: Only documents that have been approved will automatically populate. -- If you upload an unapproved document at this time, you will NOT fully apply for the position until the document has been reviewed and approved. 11. Once you have selected all of the required documents, click the green Apply button. 11

How to Register for an Event 1. Login to Handshake-- http://pepperdine.joinhandshake.com 2. Select Events 3. Browse the list of events that populate on the main page. 4. Click on an event of interest. 5. Using the blue action button on the left-- hand side, select Join Event. 5. Congratulations! You have officially registered for the event. 12

How to Cancel Registration for an Event 4. Login to Handshake-- http://pepperdine.joinhandshake.com 5. Select Events 6. Browse the list of events that populate on the main page. 4. Click on an event of interest. 5. Using the green Registered button on the left-- hand side, hover over it until it reads Leave Event. to 5. You have officially canceled your registration for the event. 13
